Do they have any favourite characters? Do you prefer buffet or sit down meals?
Ohana (at the Polynesian) has Lilo and Stich at breakfast although we prefer the dinner ( also fun entertainment for the kids). Do they want to eat at Belle's? Or have breakfast at Donald's Safari in Animal Kingdom? Or see Chip and a Dale? Princesses in Norway? I'm assuming they are too old for Winnie the Pooh and for the Disney Junior set?

Akershus in Norway always has the best princesses (we always do this and Cinderella, and the difference is striking between the characters!)
Be Our Guest only has the Beast at dinner.
1900 Park Fare is fun, especially at dinner with the wicked stepsisters!

We always enjoy lunch at Crystal Palace in MK. It's a buffet and you get Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore. The food is pretty good for a buffet. Lunch is the same selection as dinner, but cheaper. Breakfast is also pretty good, and if you get an early reservation (before the park opens), you get to walk down an almost deserted Main Street! (Check the opening times to make sure you don't book it on a day with early Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom.)

Not sure that would go over well w my kids. Yes but they offer steak, pork chops, chicken etc. with a Norwegian twist. The menu is on the Disney site.

The food at Akershus is good! A cold buffet of meats, cheeses, standard Disney peel-n-eat shrimp, salads, etc. Then you select a meal (DD had steak, the rest of us eat the meatballs...YUMMY!) I like the food here better than Cinderella's.

Crystal Palace for breakfast - we've done it twice now...first time Simon was turning 7 and he was enthralled by the Pooh characters; second time Annabelle was a toddler, Cathleen was turning 9 and Simon was 17...they were all still enthralled

We have literally been to every single character meal at Disney/resorts. Our favorite was Mickeys Backyard BBQ at Fort Wilderness. It is more than just sitting and eating and the characters come to your table. They have a dance floor and the characters dance with all kids taking turns in addition to coming to the tables for pictures. Its a buffet with chicken, ribs and picnic type foods.

Like you're saying, they said to book for the earliest time to get the chance to walk down Main Street alone and get a pic of front of the castle. So, would that be the logic in booking other character meals, too. Go on days they DONT have extra magic hours and book for the earliest meal? Am I putting too much thought into this, lol?! There is no such this as putting too much thought into it! LOL.

The breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom is my favourite, for the food, ambience, and characters (Disney classics - Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Mickey.)

We enjoyed Ohana for breakfast. We scheduled a few months before we left and there weren't a lot of choices, but I love resort and always like to visit when we go. The breakfast was good! My son loved the entertainment and they did a fabulous job making sure the characters visited each table.

Crystal Palace for breakfast, 8 am on a non EMH day (we have had an 8:20 reservation and showed up at 8 with no problem once),
Akershus was great the two times we were there. Food was good, no one had trouble with the menu.
Garden Grill was fun too. The food was good, served family style.
Not too much thought.

We loved the Garden Grill. Much of what they serve is grown right there on Disney property. Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale come to your table. The restaurant rotates slowly while you eat, too.
Akershus is our favorite, though. The princess interaction is really amazing. We've always enjoyed the food, too.
Breakfast at Crystal Palace has become a tradition. We do the early reservation, get some wonderful photos, then sit down and stuff ourselves. The breakfast lasagna is really yummy. The rest of it is just like any other breakfast buffet.

Akershus at breakfast was great! There's a cold buffet of bagels, danish, etc. and then they bring a family-style platter of the usual stuff - eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage - all very "normal". You can also schedule breakfast before the park opens (they'll have your name on a list at the gate) and then you're that much ahead of the crowd when you finish up.

ETA -- I think a lot of the stuff in Norway is closing cuz they are re-doing that area with the Frozen theme.

we were there 2 weeks ago and did breakfasts and both ohana and the tusker house. the breakfast items were exactly the same, mickey waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, fruit salad and home fry style potatoes and papaya mango juice i think. ohana served family style at your table and they keep bringing out as much as you want. tusker house was buffet so they had all those same items, but other items to choose from in addition. we had a late breakfast reservation at tusker house so halfway thru they started converting to lunch buffet - we were able to sample from that as well. character experience was the same at both... rotating thru the room to each table, giving kids musical instruments to do a little conga line parade at the end.

The interaction at Chef Mickeys always seems to be lackluster. We had pretty good interaction at 1900 Park Fare and Akershus. Every time we go to Disney we think that Garden Grill has the very best character interaction. The food is so-so but the interaction is fantastic. We also enjoy the 50's diner at Hollywood Studios. Ohana for dinner is a very favorite food. There isn't any character interaction at dinner but we have always had a fun time in the evening with the activities going on there. We also book a late reservation and watch Wishes (fireworks at Magic Kingdom) through the windows. If you want to try something different, we like Boma. Again, no character interaction but the food is good. Have fun! Wish we were going this year!

I second (or third/fourth...lost count ) the Crystal Palace character breakfast. It was our wonderful - best character meal we had at DW. Good food and lots of time with all of the Winnie-the-Pooh characters, which happen to be our kids' favorites.

We went in May 2014. My kids were 18, 16 & 13 at the time.
We did the 1900 Park Fare dinner - SO much fun! The food is so-so - typical buffet fare.
But the characters? The Step-mother & Step-sisters MADE that meal! They latched on to DS (13) and asked what he did for a living, how much money he had, where was he from...SO funny. They come around individually, and the Step-mother told him which girl he could marry, and each of the sisters told him he could marry the other, as she had lower standards. LOL

We did the Backyard BBQ 16 years ago when our boys were 9 and 5. We have been to WDW at least 20 times at this point and they still say it was their favorite thing they ever did there. It was much more interactive than the other character meals. ETA We do love the Crystal Palace too. The food is better than most of the buffets.

The breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom is my favourite, for the food, ambience, and characters (Disney classics - Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Mickey. I made a reservation for Tusker House! I also made one for 1900 Park Fare and Garden Grill. I think. We'll stick with 3 character meals. I also made one for 50s Prime Time Cafe. Ill be honest. I think it's silly to have to make dining reservations 5 months out. I totally understand that it would be important for the character meals. When we went 5 years ago, we went in October. We had reservations for character meals, but nothing else. Due to it being the off season, we were able to call places in the morning and get what we wanted. I know things will be different in June and we are adjusting our expectations accordingly. 50s Prime Time is absolutely my favourite place to eat! The CM interaction is awesome. When we went in August, the waitress had the restaurant give my son a round of applause for cleaning his plate, and when my DH asked for a drink refill, she brought him half a dozen, along with "the Bedwetter's Guide to Hollywood Studios" - a park map with the location of every restroom circled. It was a hoot!
