Happy New Year! Many who posted to Flanz's thread which kicked this all off, thanks flanz have said they will be starting on Monday 1.5.15 which will be week #1 for many of us. I had my last cup of coffee for awhile this morning. I cleaned out my fridge(bye-bye to holiday desserts) this afternoon and I am going through my pantry to see what items I have and what I need to buy to start Monday. I wanted to make the Garden Meatballs and select a soup recipe to make over the weekend. I also downloaded the App to help me keep on track. Will be looking at Pinterest thanks to @nicksmom for the link. I am so excited to try this. It isn't far off from the way I already eat, just not in the way Haylie Pomroy suggests you do it to reset your metabolism. So ladies, are you ready?

I'm getting there! I didn't have any coffee yesterday and suffered for it. I went to bed at 8 pm with a killer headache! But today is much, much better. I only drank one cup a day so maybe my detox period won't be so long. The Pinterest boards have been so helpful! She breaks it down into the three phases, plus give tips to make them acceptable for the other phases. I've found some really good recipes. I've got two servings of the Garden meatballs in the freezer. My family ate the rest! I'm going to make a couple of the soups and freeze them in correct portions so I can grab a quick meal. Like you, OP, this isn't far off from how I'm eating now. We've been eating clean in our house for several months with very little processed foods. I'm going to have to watch the olive oil, which I use to saute everything, and stick to broth.

Thanks to that thread I just finished reading the book. DH has agreed to do it with me. We are starting on Tuesday because it works better with our work schedules. I am just now trying to plan my grocery list for next week. I admit I am a little nervous of all the protein in Phase 2. It's just a lot more meat than I am used to.

Excited for all of us about to start this new way of eating. Since I've decided to start on 1/19, you'll be two weeks ahead of me. I'll be here cheering you on - and learning from you too!
The Garden Meatballs - I quadrupled the recipe and gave half to a friend who is also going to be doing this. Time consuming to chop all of those fab ingredients, but I have seriously never eaten tastier meatballs. They are delicious even without any sauce!
By looking at the food lists I see that some of my favorite recipes can be easily adapted to be Phase 3 recipes and even to the other phases if I leave out all oils, etc. I think hearty soups will be one of my staples.
From everything i've read Phase 2 seems the most challenging for people.
Thanks for joining me - and preceding me, as it turns out! - on this adventure! I have a feeling we're going to be really happy that we did it!

I'm working on my menu right now. My main problems with my meal planning is always preparation and time. I don't get off work at the same time every day, and don't always know too far in advance how much time I Will have to make dinner. I want to make meals that the whole family will eat (for dinner) but might need to have some single serve soups in the freezer as well for times when I am in a pinch.
I am a diet Mountain Dew addict. I haven't had any caffeine today and am now getting a headache. Hoping that some Aleve will help that.

flanz where did you find the recipe for the garden meatballs? I don't remember but I'll look for it. They are called Italian Garden Meatballs, if that helps. I think they might be from Haylie Pomroy's website.

jeremysgirl - I just figured it out. I had signed up for a one month membership on Haylie's website and got the recipe then. That was at hayliepomroy.com/recipe/Italian Garden Meatballs These meatballs are heavy on the veggies, and an Italian-seasoned variation on the Garden Meatballs in the Fast Metabolism Diet Cookbook. hayliepomroy.com/may292014/Serves 6 as a meal All phases Prep time: 10 minutes Total time: 45 minutes 1 pound lean ground beef 1/2 pound lean ground turkey 1 1/3 cups finely chopped fresh spinach 1/2 cup finely chopped mushrooms 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley 4 green onions, finely chopped, white and green parts 1 bell pepper, seeded and finely diced 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon fennel seed 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients. With dampened palms, roll the meat mixture into golf-ball-sized meatballs and transfer them to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish or a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through. Serve warm or room temperature. These meatballs also freeze well.

Well both recipes sound good. I will have to give them a try.
I am savoring every single day with my coffee until I have to give it up. It's probably a better idea to give it up a few days in advance but I know I am going to have trouble parting with it.

I did two weeks of this diet before Christmas to test it out, and will do it for the full 28 days, starting Monday I know I'm going to be low on energy the first week, but the next week will be much better. In fact, I felt great the second week. Full of energy and no desire for coffee

I downloaded the iphone app last night. I didn't like paying $3 for it, but I think it'll actually be worth it.
I stopped drinking coffee in preparation on Sunday. So Saturday was my last coffee day. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were brutal - massive headache every minute of each day; fatigue like I didn't know existed. But Thursday and today are great! No headache at all, and not so tired.
This weekend I am going to do my grocery shopping and food prep. Can't wait to start!

Yesterday was my last cup of coffee. I only have a cup in the morning so I hope the withdrawal isn't too bad. Just got back from grocery shopping. Going to cook during the weekend and unexpectedly have Monday off so will make a second batch of soup. Was looking at Haylie Pomroy's pinterest and saw this recipe for Lemon & mint detox drinkThought I would make a batch to sip on.

Today I made a batch of the Phase 2 Chicken Veggie Soup from the book and these zucchini chicken bites. Instead of frying them, I pressed the mixture into muffin tins and baked at 400 for about 20-25 minutes. They turned into great mini meatloaves! I'll freeze both dishes in meal-sized portions so I could easily grab one for lunch or even dinner.

I got the book yesterday. I was going to start January 5th but I think I need more time to get the right foods and read the book better so I'm starting January 12th. I like that each phase is only two or three days. I can do anything for two or three days. I think cutting out coffee and tea is going to be the hardest thing for me. I have two cups of either tea or coffee every morning. I already drink water the rest of the day.

I'm starting on Sunday (tmrw!) for the 2nd time! I lost about 7-10lbs, but not sure if that's from the cold I had and also I had a lot of holiday eating, so I allowed myself more cheat days... I was very satisfied on this plan!

She says in the book if you must have coffee, limit it to one cup and drink water/eat breakfast before you drink the coffee. Coffee, according to her, is a metabolism killer. And the whole point of the diet is to kick start your metabolism. Here's her explanation of the chemistry of it.

I ordered the book through Amazon and will start as soon as it arrives. You might be best to think of it as giving yourself time to read and absorb the info, and then to prep your pantry and fridge and in my case, freezer, before beginning. I think it's really doable and I think it will probably work if followed, but for me I need to do a fair bit of advance planning. Good luck, let's keep this discussion going!
