I love oatmeal for breakfast, but I use the packet kind. I'm cleaning up my food again, and packet oatmeal has to go. I'm about 88% clean, and I'm trying to get to about 95%. What kind of oatmeal do you eat, and how so you fix it? Steel cut or rolled oats? AnY tips or tricks would be appreciated ! I do have a Costco membership, so any recommendations from there would be great as well. Thanks!

I've eaten oatmeal for a couple of years but last winter I started with steel cut oats. I found a recipe that I really like and when I make a batch I find it does 5 servings for me. I keep them in fridge in individual containers and then microwave them for 60 seconds and I have a very quick breakfast. Here is the basic recipe that I use: Coconut Steel cut oatsI like the combination of coconut and dried cranberries with a dash of maple syrup but you could doctor it up anyway that appeals. Emelle

quick oats with hot water and some sort of fruit: banana, raisin, dried cranberries, strawberries, or blueberries. Oh, and sometimes I add sliced almonds or almond butter.

I just make rolled oats in the microwave. 1/2 cup oats, 3/4 cup water cook for 1:30. Then I add a little milk and stevia or a teaspoon of brown sugar if I'm in the mood.

I eat steel cut oats but it is not the same texture as packets of oatmeal. Just today I bought a bag of Snoqualmie oatmeal. From what I remember that is really good rolled type oats.

I eat a bowl every morning for breakfast. I just use regular old fashioned oats (I buy my oats in the bulk dept at WinCo and keep them in a cracker jar, but you can just use Quaker too) . 1/2 c. oats with 1 c.water. Microwave at 70% power for 2 min. 44 sec. (that way it doesn't boil over) I'll sometimes throw in a handful of blackberries, blueberries or strawberries, etc... prior to cooking. When I take it out of the microwave I'll add sugar, brown sugar, honey or agave nectar, whatever mood is striking me that day and then pour milk on top.

I like steel-cut or rolled oats. I prefer the chewier texture of those. And nutritionally, there's not much difference in them. I make a big pot of whichever one and then sub-divide it into containers. It's easy to grab one and pop it in the microwave. I usually add honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup for a little sweetness and almonds or pecans for extra crunch. Personally, I don't like fruit in my oatmeal, but that's just me.
The quick-cook or instant ones are too smooshy.

Steel cut oats in a rice cooker/crockpot! Easy to do and tastes great! There are several things you can put in it, but so far, I've done a small amount of brown sugar and a small amount of butter, or butter, cinnamon and honey. I also add fruit on top. One batch would feed one person for about a week.

Coach's oats from Costco. I cook it on the stove and add milk, brown sugar, craisins and granola or nuts depending on what I have. They're really hearty and not at all like the mushy instant stuff.

I do so many recipes from The Oatmeal Artist blog. In the winter time I do baked oatmeal. I buy the cylinder box of old fashioned oats and make it with almond milk.

I eat it every day in the winter. I like steel cut oats on the weekend when I have time to cook them. I don't like the texture when reheated though so during the week I eat quick oats. Twice as much water as oats, cooks in a couple of minutes, top with brown sugar, pecans and dried fruit, usually cherries or raisins or apricots.

I used the non-quick oats and cook them on the stove. I use milk instead of water.

If you want to try something new try this link... I used to do oatmeal everyday in the winter but this is my most frequent breakfast now. I do chia, hemp and flax but same basics. You can change it up, I like cherry almond, pumpkin spice and chocolate too. SO good! Chia pudding

I make my own packets based on a pin from pinterest. It uses either quick or old fashioned oats, cinnamon, freeze dried fruit and a little dry milk, which I don't think is a must have. I put them in bags, and have a container in my desk drawer that I use for cooking in the microwave.

Thanks for all the oatmeal recipes! Saving these, as I want to start eating more of it.
On a side note. what exactly does "eating Clean" mean? and 95% of the time entail? I would think that would limit a lot of things!

I have never liked the instant or quick oatmeal as it becomes too mushy, not a good texture. We use old fashioned oats. Sometimes some dried cranberries or raisins are added.

Thank you! Some great things to try! Thanks for all the oatmeal recipes! Saving these, as I want to start eating more of it. On a side note. what exactly does "eating Clean" mean? and 95% of the time entail? I would think that would limit a lot of things! Clean eating means different things to everyone, but for me, it's foods with ingredients I can pronounce, and preferably not processed. I'm pretty happy with my eating...only a few things left to change. I don't know if I'll ever give up my splash of coffee creamer!

I eat the Trader Joe's brand, Old Fashioned. I love these oats. They're big oats and have kind of a nutty taste.
I went from Quaker Apples & Cinnamon to TJ's brand with added brown sugar and nuts and dried fruit (also from TJ's). I whittled out the brown sugar first and then the fruit/nut mix and now eat them plain. I can not stand the packets anymore. They're way too sweet.

DH has eaten oatmeal every morning for YEARS. He uses the Quaker 1-minute quick oats, and microwaves them with 1% milk. When it's done, he adds some banana slices, dried cherries, blueberries, etc. and a little maple syrup. Once I get used to it, I don't mind it, but I've always preferred the packets too.

I love quakers old fashioned oats with just a tiny bit (less than a teaspoon) of peanut butter in it. Then with a little sweetener and some milk. Yum.

I like Quacker Old-Fashion Oats made with 1/2 milk and 1/2 water, then topped with a dab of butter and brown sugar. I don't care for the instant packets. They're too sweet and too mushy for my taste.

Usually steel cut oats. I stopped with the pre-bagged oatmeal because it has too much added sugar. I add my fruit allotment of the day: either 1 medium banana with 2 tablespoons of golden raisins; add 1 cup of skim milk and some ground cinnamon. Either that, or I substitute dried figs for the allowed amount of fruit.
