How many of you either never returned to school after the holiday break or are out now due to the cold? I'm home! I'm bummed, but it is nasty cold out today!

In michigan, the snow is finally coming.. Annoyed. DH has too long a commute for this crap. I don't think any schools have been closed around us yet.
I have a ton of errands to run today so I need the roads to cooperate.

We went back Monday. Tuesday was a snow day and today we have a delayed-opening. Awww, winter!

I'm in the South so our cold is a different cold than some of you experience. Still miserable to me but I know I don't have much room to complain I'd like to fix the temperature in room, however. The A/C was running in my room when it was 40-some degrees outside yesterday @@.

I did have to remind the boy that he will probably get to wear jeans tomorrow if he wants...our cold weather uniform policy kicks in if the high is below 60 ( ) and I think tomorrow it will be right around that.

Being from chilly (which is an understatement...it's 14 here right now) central NYS, that made me giggle. Hell, we still wear shorts if it's 60!

Hope it warms up soon! Yesterday was beautiful, but the rest of the week is supposed to be in the 30's. Pretty cold for us!

School is closed. It's so cold here, and we have many walkers.

I'm home and not happy about it. I had a very busy day scheduled today and that makes the rest of the week a cluster %$^%. I am glad they are not putting kids lives in jeopardy but I think we go overboard calling off. We live in NW Pennsylvania for heaven sake. It's not like snow and wind is anything new. I'll probably go in just to catch up on paperwork to ease the workload a bit.

I don't think we've ever had school called off for cold (pretty much everyone is bused.) Snow, floods, power outages. But not cold. It was 9 degrees when I got up this morning.

Our weather is all over the place. December 30th, many local places had snow for the first time in years. Now, it's over 80 during the day! It's supposed to cool off some soon which will be a welcome relief.
Stay cozy everyone! I can't imagine temps like that!

Another Floridian feeling chilly, but not like y'all Yankees! We are expecting our first hard freeze tonight, but it will be in the upper 50s or low 60s during the day. DS is still adamantly wearing short sleeves, but has grudgingly agreed to take a fleecy with him to school.

Last year, we had 3 extra days of break - the first one for snow and cold, the next 2 for cold. So far this year, we have had school, but I would say tomorrow is in question - wind chills tonight are supposed to be around 25 below. I'm hoping it doesn't get that cold - we have midterms starting Jan 16, and last year, missing those 3 days made it extremely hard on the kids to get all the work done, and prep for exams.

Pretty much all schools in my area are closed today for the cold. Superintendent uses -30 wind chill as his trigger to call off school. We did have school Monday and Tuesday. Some schools were out Tuesday for snow, but not us. Waiting to see if we have a late start or no school on Thursday; severe cold is supposed to last until about 9 am that day.
Bummer is that we are now going to be attending school on Presidents Day, which would have been a day off if we hadn't had a snow/cold day.

Yesterday, it was 81 degrees F at 4:00 pm. Really. January.
Last Saturday, it was 37 degrees at 8 am.
Weather, go home! You're drunk.

Do they give you advanced warning of a closed day at least the night before? I would think trying to scramble for childcare if you and your DH/SO work would be a nightmare. Some kids would need morning care by someone else even for a 2 hour delay. Are employers understanding if you have to call in based on school closures/delays?

We will be back in school tomorrow; wind chill is down to only an advisory, not a warning.

We do sometimes...back on November when we got hit really bad here in Western NY, 2 out of the 4 days we knew the night before.

Usually cancellations are very last min, 2 hr delays are often notified the night before. I'm in healthcare, so often we have to be here no matter what, but as accommodating as we can be.

I'm a parent and a substitute teacher in the same district. We just got the call that school is cancelled tomorrow... supposed to be -25 with windchill (about -5 without). We have 13 schools in the district and many, many walkers!

They've let us know the night before. The before/after school care that is available during a regular school day is still being offered. So, at least the parents who have their children in that program have day care.
It is tough. I recall when our dd was young I had to scramble a few times. Thank heavens the woman who would watch her when she was little was willing to take her when she didn't have school and I did.
