I can be a bit of a pearl clutter and I think this is cute. But my son also had a notebook with a chick and a magnet (no words) in 6th grade.

I think it is fine for school. However, I am going to totally clench here and say that I don't really like t-shirts that essentially proclaim (even in a cute way) that a little kid is a romantic target and/or that a kid is heterosexual. I KNOW. I have no sense of humor. I don't see this shirt as an announcement that the child is straight or a romantic target.... More that he is a cute little kid so is cute to adult women in a totally non-romantic, auntie pinching your cheeks kind of way . For this reason, I wouldn't find this shirt to be cute on teenagers as the "chicks" would then be peers in my eyes!

My problem with this shirt is the humor is for an adult (or older child/teen), not the 5 year old. Classmates aren't reading it and "getting" it, or asking for the chick magnet shirt when they are in the store. As cute as my kid is, I wouldn't send him to school in that shirt.
My DS at 5 would have been interested in a superhero, TMNT, or maybe a dinasaur on his shirt.
