DD is having a slumber party for her birthday Saturday night. I am anticipating Sunday morning being a little crazy because I am going to be helping all the girls gather their belongings and get dressed and ready to be out the door by 9 a.m. as parents are picking them up to go straight to church, etc.
I'm planning to pick up a box of donuts Saturday morning to have for the girls for breakfast Sunday morning, along with some fruit, milk, juices, etc. Any ideas on how to keep Saturday morning's donuts fresh enough so they are still yummy Sunday morning?
(We can add this to the First World Problems file)

Back in the day when I used to buy donuts, I would pop one in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up if I was not eating it fresh.

Cake donuts seem fresher longer than yeast donuts.

I would put the entire box in a plastic bag and tie it up. Keeps the moisture in the donuts seeing the air doesn't get at them. Not that I ever had leftovers mind you!

Cake donuts seem fresher longer than yeast donuts. That's good to know. Maybe I'll get a variety so we'll have a shot at something being fresh.

Glazed donuts never seem to do well for me when they're sealed in a plastic bag overnight. The glaze gets all gooey and gross.

We freeze them and microwave them. I think there's even a microwave time recommendation for frozen krispy kremes on the box.

One day isn't going to make them stale.

If you seal glazed yeast donuts, they WILL definitely get gooey and slimy! And microwaving won't help them. It is better to let them sit uncovered and then microwave them in the morning,
Rather than donuts, I'd go with Trader Joes frozen chocolate croissants. You leave them out overnight, the dough thaws and raises, then bake them for 20 minutes in the morning and you get delicious, fresh, flakey, hot chocolate croissants that taste as though they came from a top notch bakery. I also love the almond croissants, but kids usually prefer chocolate.

You could also just get boxed donuts from the grocery store. Not as fun with all the flavors/sprinkles etc. but they do the trick and stay fresh longer. I've bought the mini ones for sleepovers. DD had the flute section over last month and I did some yogurt, apple slices, cuties, bananas, mini chocolate chip and banana nut muffins, mini donuts, mini cinnamon rolls and Sunny D/water. All bought from Wal-mart. It seemed to go over pretty well.

Do they still have the frozen donuts that you can pop into the oven? I haven't had those in years and I don't know if they still exist, but they were really really good coming fresh and hot out of the oven.

Store them in their box in the microwave. I have stored my french bread in my microwave for a couple days and it is still soft. Microwaves are sealed. I haven't tried it with doughnuts but heck it wouldn't hurt to try it.

There is a Tim Hortons about 50 feet from my gym. Drive through. Not kidding. On the way TO the gym but I could stop there after. It doesn't matter. How to keep fresh? Go back, often.

And now the 24-hour Shipley's down the street is calling my name. I can't remember the last time I ate a donut. Probably shouldn't start tonight.

Just coming back to this thread, busy weekend.
Putting the entire box of donuts in a baggie was not the way to go, will not be doing that again. They must've tasted better than they looked though because there were 6 girls, only 4 of them ate donuts and I only had 1 of the dozen left when it was all said and done.
I wondered about putting a slice of bread in the box with the donuts - I have heard that's a great trick for keeping cake fresh.
I personally am all about the muffins but the birthday girl requested donuts specifically so I was aiming to please.
Thank you all for your suggestions and comments - am bookmarking this for next time!

We bought KK doughnuts yesterday, kept them in the box overnight (no wrapping or anything) and the final doughnut tasted just fine this morning.
