The one I used at Staples to buy Beats for my son. And, Staples had a big data breech, so I'm not surprised.
The grain of humor in it all is that the online beauty site they bought the stuff from is in Jersey Great Britain. So, my husband, while at work yesterday, sees the pending charge in our account (I was already on the phone with the bank trying to stop it) and it just says: -$530.70 Feelunique.com Jersey GB
He says he about had a heart attack wondering why I had just spent over $500 on a Green Bay Packers Jersey! Since I am a football fanatic, and I spent some $$ on my college team gear this week, his mind went straight there, but couldn't figure out the GB - Green Bay - part, because they are not one of my teams.
Needless to say, he was relieved to hear that we really hadn't spent that money, but is annoyed, as am I, before we see that money again in our account, as there is a 2 week process to go through with my credit union.
Dh and I were trying to be good this holiday season and pay cash for presents, hence using my debit card at Staples. Sigh. Thieves suck!

Sorry to hear that, it happened to me in December but they bought like $400 of stuff at a gas station, $300 at a garden center and luckily me credit card was rejected at the tractor store...all in a state I've never been to save for the airport. I was dealing with this for weeks, keep an eye out for charges that haven't posted yet and make sure you talk to the fraud dept, one problem I has was that the person I spoke to on the phone assumedthe charges would be removed because my card was canceled not so, only the fraud dept could do that at my credit card company

That doesn't sound like the are complying with Reg E's provisional credit requirements.

It is a two step reporting process at our credit union too. First call to shut down the card and issue a new one. Second, to the fraud department to report the specific charge(s) as fraudulent. Unfortunately, in this era of digital thievery, we go through this about once a year (sometimes more often).

Yikes, that's a lot of beauty products!
Last week I got a notice someone spent $8.49 at Delta Airlines. I was in the shower at the time of purchase. I called to alert Amex and they said it was a physical card swipe. I had my card, so I am guessing someone got my number and cloned my card. The worst thing about it is having to get a new card number. I have had that one so long I had it memorized.

That doesn't sound like the are complying with Reg E's provisional credit requirements. They have 10 business days to resolve it once I file the paperwork. So, 2 weeks. Unfortunately for us, they take the money from our account once the authorization for funds has been digitally submitted. And, while I was able to report the theft, close the account, and have a new card issued, they won't do anything except note the fraudulent transaction(s) in our account. I can't file the fraud paperwork for the transaction until Feelunique.com actually submits the charge for payment, not just for authorization for payment, and then the bank pays them with the money they have already pulled from our account and placed in holding. Once they send payment from holding to the company, only THEN can I file the paperwork and they get 10 business days. Usually, once we are able to submit the fraud paperwork, it is all resolved in one week, but it can take up to 10 days for the company to actually ask for payment for the authorized charge. So, that money is out of our account for at least 2 weeks. It really stinks, but I don't think our CU is doing anything wrong, although I wish that they would/could just deny payment on the fraudulent charge, rather than pay it and make us submit paperwork after the fact.

This was the first time it happened to me but I guess as I use my card in more and more places online and with all of the data breeches I should expect it. Hopefully yours is easier to resolve than mine was.

Cindi, I wonder if they were also trying it out to see if it would work and then would charge airline tickets on it. I had mine memorized too - I hate having to go through memorizing again, i need all my brain cells for other things! Eta: I would love to have $530 to blow on beauty products. All the eye pallettes I've ever wanted, high end eye treatment stuff, maybe a new blow dryer...

See now I wouldn't even ?? the Green Bay stuff! But I'd be wondering where my stuff was! That's so aggravating though when that happens. I hope it gets straightened out for you. I was at Staples last week.

I looked up Reg E and I was wrong - they do have 10 days to issue provisional credit. I didn't think anyone actually punished their customers that much for being victims of fraud. Most of the big banks issue next day provisional credit in similar situations, despite the rep credit unions have of being so customer-friendly.
(If it's a Visa-branded debit card, they are probably contractually obligated to issue provisional credit within 5 days.)

I would call them and say you changed your mind about the order and want to cancel. If they ask for identifying info "I forgot" but I can verify mt billing address. Asjk them to email you an email confirmation of the cancellation. After a few days when when the hold should have fallen off call your financial instition and tell them the hold was cancelled and forward the email to them

After the Target debacle, I started using only my credit card. I also put a notifications on my account for ALL transactions. So after any transactions with my credit or debit card I get an e-mail alert.
I hope it all gets worked out.
