I like seeing the picture threads and since I hadn't posted in awhile, thought I'd share some too. These are all from 2014 ...
I had been at 2peas for maybe six years before Little Pudge was born. She's now seven! When I first lurked on 2peas, I had no idea I would be around long enough to watch pea babies grow up (which has been really fun). I think it's a testament to our community (craziness and all), that we are able to share with one another and have a history.
Last year was my 20th high school reunion (*gulp*) and I traveled back to Nebraska for it. Norah had been to my hometown when she was a baby, so this was a good opportunity to take her with me. We spent several days in the Black Hills, then the rest of time in my town. She loved going fishing with Grandpa. We were up early one morning to drive to a lake in the Sand Hills and we stopped for sunrise at this abandoned schoolhouse.
We had a pretty chaotic summer as my husband changed jobs, we sold a house, and moved, but we managed to fit in a lot of hiking locally (great stress reliever!). The one of Steve and Norah is from one of my favorite hikes called Breakneck Ridge on the Hudson River. The other is from a trail in the Catskills.
We normally take a two week family vacation end of summer, but because of our schedule and uncertainty of closing/moving dates, we couldn't plan very far out. We knew we would go somewhere, but no idea what it would be until three weeks before our vacation we bought tickets for a hiking trip in Austria (we left one week after we moved and returned one day before school started - yes, we're nuts!). The trip turned into somewhat of an adventure as we had to scrap our original plans after five nights or so due to weather. After that we were completely winging it. We ended up in the Dolomites for some hiking and finished with a completely unexpected trip to Cinque Terre. Even though we were planning on the fly, we had a great trip.
A peak we climbed in the Dolomites called Piz Boe. There was actually quite a bit of snow and ice, which made for some interesting hiking.
Manarola and Vernazza in Cinque Terre:
We spent Thanksgiving week in Death Valley National Park camping, hiking, and exploring. One of the things I was most excited to see were the moving rocks at the Racetrack. There is a large playa (dry lakebed), that itself is pretty neat. At one end it is littered with rocks with trails behind them - they moved in very specific conditions of rain, temperature, and wind and left trails in the mud. We had one of our most amazing sunrises here. Very cool spot.
We also loved the Eureka Dunes. The tallest are over 700 feet and they are really beautiful. This was the last night of our trip and we were down to the wire for a family picture we could use on our Christmas card (unfortunately I was very bad about getting family pictures last year - trying to do more this year!). Mother nature came through with a stunning sunset. We camped by the dunes and it was a beautiful evening and night. Very special place.
I also liked this picture of Steve and Norah out for a short morning jog in Twenty Mule Canyon in Death Valley. A few years ago Steve picked up trail running and he does ultras now. After successfully completing half a dozen 50 mile races, he tackled his first 100 mile race and did an awesome job. It was a big accomplishment for him and I was proud of his hard work and success. He has plans for more races this year. Me, on the other hand .... this summer I went for a short run at a nearby park, twisted my ankle, double dislocated a finger, and ended up in the walk in clinic. Clearly I'm supposed to leave the running to Steve! But I like to joke that by family average, I'm now a marathoner. ;-)
Thanks for letting me share.
