Doing some pre-spring cleaning here...getting rid of clutter.
We had a barely used pair of tap shoes that DD wore a few times. Perhaps I could've listed them on eBay, Craigs List and gotten a few $$ for them...or perhaps I could donate them and at least get some kind of tax write off.
Before taking them to Goodwill, I posted a picture of them and asked the kids on the school Thespian FB page if anyone wanted them. One freshman girl asked how much I wanted for them and I told her $0..."just put them to good use".
I brought the shoes to her a few days ago.
Last night was opening night of our show. Her mother came up to me to tell me that her DH was out of work and getting tap shoes for her DD were clearly not on the radar. She told me how much it meant to her, and how much it meant to her DD to have the shoes. The DD was in the basement the night I gave them to her tapping and tapping and tapping.
I know they felt blessed having a surprise pair of tap shoes to use...but I sure felt blessed as well knowing how much it meant to them. (because we too have been on the receiving end of RAOK when my DH was out of work)
Almost brought a tear to my eyes before the show even started. (I texted my DD to let her know where her tap shoes ended up so that she'd feel blessed too)

Thanks for the reminder! I have a bunch of old dance shoes in the attic that I keep meaning to give my kids to donate to their dance studio. I will get them ready today! We were in a very tight money position a few years ago and my daughter needed $54 shoes for a recital, and she may not even need them the next year. One of her friends outgrew the her shoes, and just gave them to us! What a relief! I hope we can help someone else out the way we were helped with the shoes!

We always donate outgrown dance shoes of any kind to the studio my DD's go to. You never know when we may need to be on the receiving end of someone's generosity.

the lord works in mysterious ways sometimes. I always say if you need something, sometimes if you just wait, it will come to you and for a fair price at that. Happened to us many times.

I think paying it forward is the way to go. Give some joy to others.
On that note, I'm considering getting rid of my timeshare, that I (or my parents) has had for 37 years. No mortgage or money owed, so I was thinking of just transferring the deed to someone with small kids who can use it to travel. That's what I've done for my entire life and with my kids, so why not let someone else do the same?
That was off topic, I'm sorry.. just the first thing I thought of. But definitely, give where you can, it will always help.

I love stuff like this.
A friend of mine was cleaning out their old car last week. She had used it for a variety of things and it had collected quite a bit of stuff in the back (an old Volvo station wagon). She came across a pair of brand new black sneakers that she couldn't even remember buying. She was working the next day at our church's food pantry so she took them with her. A woman who stopped by to pick up some food asked if there might be any shoes?
You guessed it. Those black sneakers were the exact size she needed.
Enjoy the moment!
