Good to know! I have to find out when I'm due for renewal (is there a way to find that out?) because if it's close enough to the date, it would be worth it even if it doesn't simply extend it.
Thanx for posting!

Thanx for posting! Log in, click on Your Prime in the upper right corner, then select Manage Prime Membership from the quick links list. Your expiration date will show on the upper left.

If you look at the comments from the OP link, you will find different results about whether you can renew. Some have said Amazon said it was for new customers only. Someone else said they cancelled their Prime Membership, got a refund of the unused portion and will buy the discounted Prime on Saturday. Check the comments from the above link.

I am still in my free trial period so I will cancel and then sign up. I may have to use my work email but that's OK

This is great timing for me, thanks for letting us know! I have been debating getting it for a while, and had finally decided to pull the trigger today of all days. I am so glad I saw this first! I can definitely wait until tomorrow.

My dh called a few minutes ago and it was a total no go for renewals. New customers only.

I emailed them and they will only do it for new members. But they gave me $10 in my account for asking. Now I guess we could open another account with DHs name tomorrow but it seems like too much effort. They should have allowed renewals.

I emailed them asking about a price difference refund and also was told it was for new accounts. They did however extend my prime 2 months for the inconvenience. I thought that was nice of them.

Don't give up, peas! Email I got: Hello, I do understand your concern. We certainly don't want our customers to face any sort of inconvenience. I've checked with our prime department and confirm that the $72.00 prime subscription will be applicable for only new customers that who are subscribing this Amazon prime membership for the first time and it will not be applicable to the old prime customers. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience caused. I also want to confirm that we have been receiving many contacts regarding this $72.00 prime subscription and we have forwarded this issue to our Prime department and they are working on this. Yow will able to watch all ten episodes of Transparent for free this Saturday only from 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time to 11:50 p.m. Pacific Time via any compatible Amazon Instant Video app or online at www.amazon.com/Transparent. However, in appreciation of your valuable business, I've issued a refund of $27.00 for the difference amount for your Amazon Prime membership. You'll see the refund to your Original payment method in the next 2-3 business days. If you still have any concern please feel free to contact us at any time. We are always glad to help you. Thanks for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Fabulessly Frugal posted this morning that you can purchase Prime as a gift and gift it to yourself at the $72.00 rate. You can choose the delivery date and have it sent when your current membership expires. I have not personally tried this yet, but I thought I'd share. link

Quick question about Prime and sharing ~ I know you can share with four members of your household. Is this just the shipping part of Prime?
Meaning, if I share with someone else in my household, I have read that they can keep their personal Amazon account and still shop through their email address, not having to log in under mine. But, can they then sign in for Amazon Prime Instant Video through their personal address or will they have to do it through mine, mine being the primary email Prime is attached to?
Also, is there a limit as to the number of devices with access to Prime? I know you can only stream to two devices at the same time, but can you access Prime to more than the two? We have two smartphones, an iPod Touch, Playstation 3, Roku, three computers, and three tablets that ideally would be used at some time for Prime.
Thanks!

I emailed them last night and said I had just renewed in the middle of December. I was just curious if we would be able to renew. I got an email back they were sorry I had an issue and gave me a $27 refund to the card I paid for it with. I was happy with that.
