Update Tuesday Feb 3: She got a full massage as all her joints were checked out. Changing her pain meds, and doing another round of cold laser therapy on her lower joints (in humans that would be her knees and elbows). Decided NOT to do more needle biopsies; but they did measure each of her 37 lumps and made up a new body chart showing their locations. We are also doing a pee test, since she has been having problems. If she has a UTI we will treat it. Blood work last month showed no signs of anything like diabetes. We did discuss the cancer, and since we are not doing much other to make her comfortable and control her pain, going for more testing is not advised. Original Post: As you all can see Princess, "queen of the house" is not doing well. She is doing a brave fight, and we believe she does have cancer running riot in her. That "lumpy appearance" isn't fur patterning, she is getting more lumpy. At 13 years and two months of age we are doing palliative care only. She is a doggie hospice patient now. Maggie and Bailey "know" and have "known" for some time now, we people were slow to pick up. We have a vet appointment tomorrow morning, the fight is not over, but it will not last much longer. But I am not sure if I want to do more cell sampling of the newer and faster growing lumps. The procedure is painful for her, and there is not much we would do at her age. Nor could we do, given the possible location as up in both her hips and in one shoulder. Her brother/littermate died last month from cancer (I do not know the type or how long he had it). Since she had Vestibular syndrome in August, we have been very much aware of her fragility and her inevitable death.

On Princess (the Chocolate dog) those whorls are not from fur, but underlying tumors. that large one visible at the bottom of the photo is the one that has me worried, she can barely use the right rear leg, and there are two more growing more rapidly on the left side, both in the front and the rear. The rear one seems to be the more painful one.

That poor baby. I hope she is not in too much pain. I personally would not do anything to my dogs at the stage your baby is at. One of my boys had vestibular disorder also. I am not sure what his true age was, but I had him 13 1/2 years and when I got him from the shelter they said he was 3-5 yrs. I had a best friend who had aggressive head/neck cancer. She knew how much I loved my Max. She begged me to no do anything if he had something other than vestibular disorder, such as brain tumor. She said, it just hurts so much.
Just remember what a wonderful life you have given her and the amazing amount of love. You will be in my heart during this terrible time. Also the remaining babies, since they also have such a hard time with loosing their friend. My Slasher was lost without Max.

it's so tough, isn't it?? we're always the last to realize what's going on...
skritches to your Princess, and a gentle woof and nose kiss from our furbabies Bisbee, Prescott, and Krista, and hugs to you for making the tough decision to do what's best for her when the time comes.

Poor gal, that's tough. I wouldn't put her through more testing either. If it's hard for her to walk, I'd assume she's in pain, and I would think it might be getting time to assist her along with putting her to sleep. I know it's so hard!!! ((hugs)))

(((Sandy))) I'm so sorry. The German Shepherd my family had when I was growing up had a cancerous tumour behind one of his eyes. We chose to only do steroids and not operate or anything. We pampered our dog until he didn't enjoy life anymore. Our vet came to our home.
It's so hard to see our beloved pets go through this. I agree with your decision to no do any more testing. It's not going to help, and our pets don't understand the purpose.
Spoil Princess rotten. Please give her a belly rub and her weight in bacon for me.

My heart is breaking for you. I never want this day to come for any pet owner. It is the worst part about owning an animal. They are so loving and depend on us to make decisions for them. Their love is so generous, unending and comes usually unconditionally (our black boy poodle is very conditional...the conditions have to be just right) but they are just the most sincere loving animals.
Hugs and more hugs to you, your family and your beloved Princess!

All good thoughts from a dog Mom who last had to deal with this kind of sorrow in 2006 and still remembers how hard it was. Wishing you strength.
