If it is an issue with Turbo Tax, that is the nail in the coffin. With their raising prices people are already not using them.
I won't use them this year. I still can't do my taxes because for some stupid reason, investment corporations like TD Ameritrade have until Feb 28 to mail out the tax forms. Every year, they push it back.

I won't use them this year either. Last year I caught an over $400 error that their software should have flagged in the verification process and didn't. I then checked my prior year return (2012) and had the same issue. I had to file an amended return for 2012 but was able to fix 2013 before filing. I notified Intuit/Turbo Tax of the issue and never heard back from them so I am through with them. I am also waiting for investment 1099's. I also have to wait for 1099's and get info turned into a CPA who will then issue K-1's. I can't do my taxes until K-1's are done. The IRS gives until March 15th for these. They have to wait that long because they give the companies so long to get the 1099's out.

We have an investment corporation (dh, me and 4 other friends) and so dh has to figure out the taxes not only for us but for every person with a share in the corporation. He doesn't do everyone's taxes, just the investment portion. The K-1. I do everything else before that and then he will come back and input the numbers and then do the state. We are lucky if we can submit by the middle of March.

We are lucky if we can submit by the middle of March. That is what I have to do too but I let a CPA handle the 1065 and the K-1's. I am manager. I could probably do the taxes but I don't want that responsibility on my shoulders. As of this year, I am 1% owner. This 1% allows me to manage so much easier because I don't have to deal with the other owners, two of the three are very irresponsible and won't get things done when I need them done. Now, if I have to deal with the IRS, I can because I am an owner. So much easier. It is set up as an LLC.

If you have chosen not to use TurboTax anymore, what will you be using instead? I've been using TT for 6+ years. Was about to go buy this years this weekend, but all these problems are making me second guess.

Wow, I decided to use a CPA this year because I'm busy with a new baby and toddler but this seals the deal for me that I made the right choice!

I've used them for years and always get mine done by mid-january but I've been procrastinating this year due to a house sale and other things. Too bad it happened, I like how it populates the stuff you need from the year before. But I won't be taking any chances, i'll go with someone else.

I have used them for years and my mil always comes to our house to do hers as well using it. It looks like this year she won't be able to as they have changed the software and no longer includes all the forms she needs. She has a business but for the past 10 years or more has always been able to do them on our software. This year I remember hearing that that wouldn't be the case. Found this out after we purchased our copy.
I hope they get things figured out soon. Not that we are ready to file our yet but we paid more to include the state information.

I used to use TurboTax, but I have a cousin that works for TaxHawk and so I tried them out last year and had no problem. I will be using them again this year. They are online, free for federal filing and state is only $12.95. You can upgrade to the Deluxe for only $4.95.

Was about to go buy this years this weekend, but all these problems are making me second guess. I am going back to H.R. Block (formerly Tax Cut). I used them for years and switched about 4-5 years ago. On the good side, all the major brands allow you to import your file from last year from Turbo Tax so it's not like I have to start from scratch. I bought H.R. Block with a Groupon and paid about $20-$30 less than what the version I would need of Turbo Tax.

I have been using Tax Act for 3 years. No problems so far. I am always a bit worried that I will make a mistake, so I look over the return over and over before I submit it. I spent hours on Tax Act today. Phew! So glad I'm done for another year.

I used TT online and was able to efile fine. BUT, my state return has not yet been accepted and is still pending. The federal was accepted within a day. I was assuming it was a Illinois problem since everything here seems to be screwed up one way or another. But I'll keep watching for now.

A friend of mine received her state tax refund in the mail this week. The problem is she hasn't filed them yet. Someone else used her & DH identity to file a fraudulent return using turbo tax. I don't think the perpetrator intended for the state check to be mailed. It's a mess! IRS told her to file a police report, file with the FTC, and social security administration. She has also filed with the state income tax fraud division. She was on hold with IRS for 2 hours last night to see where they wanted her to send the police report. This agent told her that he couldn't speak with her only her husband. He is working in another state. Big hot mess!

Was about to go buy this years this weekend, but all these problems are making me second guess. I had a thread on this earlier this week - the general consensus was Tax Act (which is what I'll be using) or Tax Cut, which is H&R Block's product. I am still livid at Turbo Tax due to them forcing me to upgrade in the middle of my tax return last year to get a certain form.

I wouldn't write off turbotax yet. It seems that they are the ones to catch the problem, not cause it. Many states are putting refunds on hold, and it has nothing to do with using turbotax.
One of those giant data breaches is what's causing the theft -- not filing with turbotax. They're just the first to point out the problem.

I don't feel comfortable changing from turbo tax. I hate having to complete schedule D and I finally, after many years of problems, have everything set up to have it imported from my financial advisor. I don't want to go through that again.

I get my taxes done through VITA and highly recommend them to those that qualify. I think each state sets their own income guidelines, but it's usually around $50,000 or so. This is likely my last year using the service as I'll draw a full salary in 2016.

I don't feel comfortable changing from turbo tax. I hate having to complete schedule E and I finally, after many years of problems, have everything set up to have it imported from my financial advisor. I don't want to go through that again. This is me, exactly. I'd much rather just pay the money to TT (a fair amount for a good product ) and not have to worry about re-entering all of my information somewhere else.

I used Tax Act for the first time this year. It was kind of a pain to re-enter my info, because with Turbo Tax, I just logged in and entered my new W2 info and a few other things. This time I did go through the entire process with Turbo Tax to compare and they both came up with the same refund amounts. TaxACT was $14.00, Turbo Tax wanted $73!

We have always had someone do our taxes for us. Before I met dh, he used someone at H&R Block. But that guy passed away. Then he used a CPA that the company he worked for used. When we got married, he continued to use him. Then after he screwed us up 2 years running (one to the tune of $5000), we switched to someone else. I just give her our expenses and info for the year and she does the rest.

I live in a State with no withholding so only need Federal Returns. I used TT Thursday evening and had no issues. That said, I am irritated at their pricing structure. I may look elsewhere next year.

We're in Canada, but DH is American, so has to file ex-pat returns in the U.S. We use someone in H&R Block's ex-pat services group because those ex-pat returns are kind of ugly.
I do use Turbo Tax here in Canada for our Canadian returns, and will continue to do so.

I filed ours on Wednesday using Turbo Tax. The Federal was accepted in less than an hour and the state was accepted on Thursday. Luckily it got through before they stopped accepting them.
