Me too!!! I begged for one for years, to no avail. My mom thought it would get used as much as the Easy Bake Ocen (read: never after the first week). She was probably right, but I still wanted one. I didn't even like sno-cones that much, so I'm really not sure why I wanted it lol

I had a friend who had two wide velvet like belts with a rhinestone closure in the front. One turquoise and one pink. She used to let me wear one, once in a while. I wanted one soooo bad. But actually I don't know if I ever asked for one, lol.

A Members Only jacket. They were the in thing in Jr High. I was buying all my own clothes by that time and I saved up for one and by the time I had enough, they were no longer cool

A members only jacket and a pair of Chuck Taylors. Sigh. And the polo shirt with the little alligator on the front. Mostly any clothes you didn't buy at Walmart or the One Price store where everything was $7. I was a poor kid in rural Virginia - you were extra cool if you shopped at Cato two towns over. Once in a great while we would go to the mall in one of the cities a couple hours away which was quite the adventure. I got a pair of chucks at a shoe store in Manhattan when I was 27, and they hurt my feet. What a letdown.

I wanted red patent leather shoes from Buster Browns. I have very narrow feet though, so I never got them. They made black patent leather shoes in narrow, but for some reason not red. As an adult I saw red patent leather Chuck Taylor cons, but I was too cheap to buy them for myself, I still to this day regret that decision.

I wanted satin shorts and a satin jacket. This was in the late 70's or so. They came in pastel colours. By the time I got a satin jacket they were out of style and definitely not cool anymore. [ Pink satin jacket with a roller skate appliqué was my dream. And more than one pair of jeans at the time.

My own roller skates. The kind you buy at the rink, with fancy wheels. I am sure I would have gone on to become a professional roller skater!

The Snoopy Sno Cone machine, Weebles (my friend had a haunted house with a ghost that glowed in the dark). As a teen, designer jeans. Of course, the jeans I had were worn through at the knee, so any jeans would have been nice, but this was the mid80s when Jordache were all the rage. We were on the poor side when I was younger, we were super poor after I was about 10. So, just in time for the horrors of junior high.

Then I think about actually buying one, and it goes away quickly.

A Barbie doll. I had a knock off pair Tammy and Pepper - but they couldn't share clothes with Barbie so it wasn't fun going to my friends houses.

I am sorry for many of you who said you grew up poor and never had the "cool" stuff. We weren't rich but my Mom knew how to get a bargain. By the time I was in Jr. high, I was buying my own clothes from babysitting. I remember my first babysitting job. I made $1.00 for the night and bought a new pair of white tennys (tennis shoes) on sale. That became the beginning of my clothes obsession. What I wanted and never got was a Barbie doll. I was at the age, when Barbie came out, where I was almost too old for dolls. Sigh..but I sure wanted one. I also wanted a new bike, instead of a used one, and new ice skates instead of used ones. i suppose that is why I grew up to be a serial killer....just kidding....maybe.

Olive green corduroy knickers from the JC Penney catalog. If anyone doesn't remember, they were pants that came to the knee, with a band at the bottom of each leg, kind of puffy. The girl in the catalog had a white shirt with a ruffled neck. I wanted those so badly. I would have looked like hell in them.

A Cabbage Patch Kid Tape Recorder.
The Christmas I desperately wanted it I got caught trying to sneak a peek at my presents.
Christmas morning there was a box with my name on it that had been scratched out, and "Sister Mary Margaret's Home for Orphan Girls" or something similar was written in it's place. I was convinced it was my tape recorder and was devastated.
10 years later, my parents gave me a box for Christmas with a tag that said "This is what really was in the box that went to the orphanage."
It was a brick.
I still want that damn tape recorder!

I really wanted a broken arm! I wanted a plaster cast for all my friends to sign. (Of course I realise now how silly that is and what a PITA it would have been).
And a Green machine. A neighbour had one and it was so cool to ride on and spin.

Not very cool, but I wanted braces. I did, too. What were we thinking?

Sorry you didn't get a pair, maybe they will make a comeback one day?

I wanted a satin jacket so bad too. That and days-of-the-week undies. My mom would only buy me plain white.

I also wanted a rock tumbler. I still long for it. LOL! Me too. Guess what DD got for Christmas. My rocks, I mean hers, turned out just like my 10 year old mind thought they would. Plus my mom was here for Christmas and I made damn sure that we made a HUGE deal out of it. Still makes me laugh... I remember longing for the Coke rugby shirt. And jeans that fit. I've been 6' since 8th grade. Just once it would have been lovely to not be waiting for a flood.

When I was little, I wanted the game Mousetrap sooo bad. My parents bought it for my older brothers and sisters and they lost half of the pieces, so by the time us younger ones saw it on tv and wanted it, they said, "No way! We bought that game for your brothers and sisters and they didn't take care of it, and we're not buying it again!" Never did get it. Maybe I'll buy it for DD when she gets a little older... Yeah right. Who are we kidding? I'm buying it for ME! When I was in grade school, I would have thought I died and went to heaven if I would have gotten a pair of white leather Nikes with the red swoosh. I was sent to a Catholic school that I hated and where the kids were so stuck up and mean. We had to wear uniforms (which is why I never had any name brand clothes, my parents spent all their money on tuition for that stupid school!) and the only thing they couldn't dictate was the shoes we wore. All the cool rich kids wore Nikes and the poor kids like me wore the cheap vinyl tennis shoes with the generic stripes down the sides. And believe me, those kids didn't hesitate for a second to point out who had the crappy shoes! Once I switched to a public school in 8th grade, nobody cared what anybody wore and I *finally* fit in. By high school, I already knew the drill which was that the basics (the BARE basics) would be provided and if I wanted anything different, I'd better find a way to come up with the extra money myself. I started babysitting when I was about 12 but would also help my brother with his paper route and he would give me some money for that. Sometimes we got a little money for birthdays or Christmas, and I saved mine. So when Guess? Jeans were popular, I bought myself ONE pair, on clearance, and they were still probably about $40 which was a LOT. But I wore the heck out of those jeans and I definitely got my money's worth out of them! Now that I'm older and a lot smarter, I buy my kid cute, fun name brand clothes at consignment sales (and at the end of the season when stuff is on clearance) dirt cheap so she can look cute and still not break the bank. And I take care of it so when I turn around and sell it, I get almost all of what I paid back out if it!

Krinkles. I didn't know what they were called when I was a child so I didn't know what to call them to put them on a Christmas list. As soon as I saw them in a toy store I got them for DS. (That day!) He may have been 6 months old but darn it he was getting Krinkles! He didn't love them like I did but he liked them and played with them a lot!

Sorry you didn't get a pair, maybe they will make a comeback one day? I had a pair too. Brown and tan houndstooth pattern, about 1968-69. I could of cared less about clothes but my parents thought they were cute and I hated them. One thing I wanted was a mini bike but they thought they were too dangerous. Ah, since when is wearing knickers to Jr High safe? What I really, really wanted to play little league baseball but when I was a child girls were not allowed to play. I also wanted a chrome Schwinn Stingray bike but my father thought they were silly and inefficient since they had 20" wheels. He felt a 24-26 inch wheels were much more efficient, easier to ride and covered more distance with less effort. He did not understand the coolness factor at all and would not support my desire for this bike. Fun thread.

The only thing that comes to mind is Barbie. I got a Tammy doll from my dad's IBM Christmas Party and I had clothes and a trunk for her. But I don't know why I never got a Barbie. I probably never asked for one. I wanted a Barbie doll as well, but I got a Sindy doll instead. Sindy was actually way cooler because you could bend her arms and legs at the knee and elbow joints, which is why my mum bought it for me. But a little part of me was disappointed because I really wanted a Barbie (the success of marketing). I wanted a trampoline and an above ground pool from the Sears catalog. I never got either one. We were very lucky because we had both! And yes, we jumped from the trampoline into the pool. But......... I would have loved an in-ground pool ! The only other thing that comes to mind is black netball sneakers. I didn't even play netball, but all the cool girls wore black netball sneakers. I don't know why my mum wouldn't get them for me, she usually bought the shoe and clothing items I coveted.

Crazyforscraps, we grew up in the same house! Only difference is, I didn't get to transfer to a public school in 8th grade, I got the entire HS experience wearing a polyester plaid skirt and white button down blouse with a vest. To this day I don't own a white button down shirt. I also think that's where my love of shoes came from, it was the only thing that made us individual. That and shiny pretty hair. sadly, I had neither cool shoes or the cool hair.
I wanted a barbie Malibu dream house. never did get it. I got the town home with elevator. When DD wanted a dollhouse, she got the deluxe model, (on sale with a coupon). I also shop consignment, and get a lot of designer names for dirt cheap. Unfortunately, DS is into the I'm going to rip apart the knees of every pair of jeans he owns phase.

I wanted a dishwasher. I was the sole dishwasher and I HATED it. To this day, I loathe washing dishes. You can bet I now own a dishwasher! We had one that was never used.....ever! My mother store her plastic in it. At the time it was out in it was the top of the line, most expensive one on the market. I think I actually stopped eating at meals times because I had to help with dishes , while my brother got to go play.
