No one I know gives me a hard time about my age. Maybe they think I'll hit them with my cane. Seriously, it's just a number. Enjoy your birthday!

The only alternative to getting older is....not getting older.
So celebrate the fact that you've had 50 years and have more to look forward to! I know many people who would love the opportunity to be depressed about getting older. Embrace the life you've been given.
Maybe this sounds harsh, but my 38 year old childhood friend just went into hospice care. I bet she'd love the opportunity to be "depressed" about growing older.

I had that same approach until a friend died four months before my birthday, begging the doctors not to give up on her. There was no amount of pain she wasn't willing to take on, no chemo or radiation treatment, no radical surgery she wouldn't go through to get one more day, one more day with her family.
And I was pretty ashamed of my "I don't want to be 50" rant. Amy just wanted to be 44. I threw a big party, invited tons of people to come over and grab a hamburger, some potato chips and help me rejoice that I'd hit this age.
Hope your birthday turned into a brighter day than you anticipated.

I find that as I age I worry less and less about what others think of me or of the things I choose to do. And that makes life so much easier and a lot more fun. That's true for me too and it's so liberating!

I just wanted to come back and tell everyone that I had a great birthday today. I decided to tell the people I work with my real age, I tried to hide it before, but it was kind of fun seeing the different reactions. Seriously, one person thought I was 38 and told me I had such nice skin that she couldn't believe I was 50. My boss thought I was kidding, she is 41 and always thought I was her age. I didn't work much today, I chit-chatted a lot with people, got beautiful flowers from my boss and three of my co-workers, went out for pizza with my husband, son and one of my sisters, and talked on the phone with 3 of my best girlfriends. Turning 50 wasn't so bad after all P.S. I am not depressed anymore. Thank you so much to all of you that posted. I read all the responses and I think it really helps to see different outlooks on aging. SO Glad you had a great birthday! I totally LOVE when people are shocked at my age too...ENJOY IT!!!

I turned 49 today. I love my age. I've learned so much from my experiences. Embrace it.

50 is a great age, unless you have frizzy gray hair and wear beige pull-up pants(and those can be fixed)! LOL! You could be my age--68--and wonder what how that happened so fast.
Enjoy your new decade!
