I need some cheering up or words of wisdom to get out of my funk about turning 50 tomorrow. My 40th was was bad enough, now I really feel like an old lady. It doesn't help that I work with a lot of younger co-workers.
So, tell me something fun I can use when people give me a hard time about my age!

Well, I don't know about something fun, but I can say that 50 is really only a big deal if you make it so. I am more confident, calmer, more trusting of myself and my own capabilities than I've ever been. To me those things are worth a few grey hairs and a wrinkle or two. it's your state of mind that keeps you young and that's in your control

I turned 50 in January...no biggie. I sometimes feel old when taking the kiddo to school (he was born when I was 42...so his Mom's friends are all in their mid 30's), but other than at those moments, I feel just fine with the age (actually, I "kind of" enjoy saying my age because no one believes me).
My friends & I say that this year we are working toward "50, fit and foxy ... and have already accomplished the easy one..1 goal down, 2 to go"
Another one is: "looking good and fantastic celebrating our 25 anniversary of our 25th year"
"If you carry your childhood with you, you never become older." - Abraham Sutzkever
"Forty is the old age of youth; fifty is the youth of old age." - Old French Proverb
Many hugs...it'll be ok.

I have to agree with the better than the alternative comments!! I am a 5-year breast cancer survivor. There was a time I honestly didn't think I would see my 50th birthday and now I'm two years past it. Put on your party hat and celebrate!! 50 isn't old...unless you let it be.
Happy Birthday!!!!!!

OH...and I made a list of special things I want to do during this BIG year (includes things like scrapbook at least 1 day a week and crop with friends 1 whole day a month). On my actual birthDAY, I treated myself to a lovely lunch and dessert. Some friends are going on a big trip or skydiving or take dance lessons....something they have always wanted to do but didn't give themselves the permission to do it before.
Celebrate life...you worked hard...celebrate YOU!

Well, it's inevitable. You can't stop the days from adding up. But you are the youngest, right now, than you will ever be again. Tomorrow, you'll be older. ENJOY YOUR DAYS - and your life will follow!

I'm not sure how positive it is, but if most of your coworkers are much younger and like to razz you about your age, my automatic response would be, "And think of how much closer to retiring I am!"

I'll be 50 this year as well. I've got no words of wisdom, except to say that I pity the young fool that gives me grief about my age. Happy Birthday!

My 50th birthday was really hard. I was ready to bite the head off anyone who looked at me. I was not bothered at all by my 40's, and never did really figure out why I felt the way I did.
But after that, it all smoothed out again and the rest of them (the last one was 57) haven't bothered me at all. Part of it is that I have always looked younger and I really enjoy the surprised looks when I tell people how old I am. LOL! But I think we all, in this generation, are looking and acting younger than previous generations. 50 really is the new 40 (or maybe even 35!)

I'm coming upto 50 and it's going to be just another day, no special celebrations or anything (not big on celebrating adult birthdays in either my or DH's family). Honestly I'm not that fussed about it, not viewing it as a turning point, jumping off point or whatever.
And I enjoy having the younger folk in the office. Then again I have three teenagers. I do sometimes roll my eyes at some of the stuff they come out with but, for the most part, they are fun to have around and liven up what is a pretty dull job otherwise.

50 isn't old if you are a tree... ha ha! I turn 50 on Friday and am trying to get excited. I set all kinds of goals on my 49th b'day and I don't think I've reached any of them. I have 4 more days. LOL! I'm not depressed about it, I'm just not too excited to celebrate.

Suzette, I had a milestone birthday last year that I was none too thrilled about. Not depressed, just feeling a bit bleeh about it for a couple of months beforehand. The whole "I'm really over the hill and on the downward slide" thing.
Then one day, just before the big day, it suddenly hit me - it's already happened, I've already lived through that year and didn't even realise it. Instantly I felt better and it didn't bother me any more.
So think of it that way - yes, you're turning 50 tomorrow, but you've already lived through your 50th year - that started on your 49th birthday - and you didn't even know it.
Have a wonderful birthday.

I'm not depressed about 50 but I'm certainly not thrilled about it, so I can empathise with you. Mine isn't till next year and I'm also up for my 30th wedding anniversary...and they said it wouldn't last lol. I loved turning 40, but this 50 business has got me all worried. I love the confidence that age brings, I just don't like aging Happy Birthday for tomorrow

Really---you want to relive those years when you didn't know WTH about so much? Take joy in your knowledge at this point in life. Think of all the things you no longer have to worry about........Take joy in the good health you have, the progress you have made in life at this point...........etc.
I'll say that 50 didn't bother me, but 60........well, that was a major funk!

Just think of your 80 year old self looking back fondly on only being 50 and enjoy that you are there right now. You are just that young. And on a side note I just realized that we had all our original smileys and then some! I love this one the most!

Eh, it's just a number. You'd rather hit it than not. Today is my younger sister's 50th birthday. I'm pretty sure she is at home having a meltdown like no other. She won't talk to anyone on her birthday (any - ever) because they are too depressing. She still *thinks* she looks like Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman".
Happy Birthday!
