for 47 hours for $100.
for a 1 year old. And childcare must be clean and provide snacks and meals, and be on her driving route between home and work. From 6 am to 5:45pm.
Uhm, why do you think your old childcare is closing?

I enjoy seeing some of the ridiculous posts that people are looking for. It's always "free or cheap - single mom on a budget." Good luck with that.

I assume that's low for your area, but that's what I paid for my newborn a few years back. It was an inhome center that we absolutely loved (ODS had gone for a few years, we paid $50/wk for before/after school care). She provided everything except formula and diapers. But we're in a small town in the midwest, I know that makes a huge difference.

How could you trust someone who would accept that little to care for a baby?

Not going to happen. Anyone that has the right credentials can make at. Least $10 an hour. But here if I were to to take a baby, one baby, I could make $800 a week.

The most precious thing in your life ( your child) yet you want the cheapest possible care for it?
That's how I feel.

I used to know a woman from church, who approached a friend of ours and told her that The Spirit had revealed to her, through prayer, that our friend was supposed to provide childcare for this woman's baby daughter, so the woman could go back to school full time to get her master's degree. My friend was a SAHM of three, so this woman assumed that one more child during the day wouldn't be a problem. The real kicker was that this woman wanted my friend to do it for free. My friend declined, several times, even though this women kept insisting that my friend pray about it, hoping she'd get the same answer. After that, very little shocks me about what some people believe is adequate compensation for childcare.

The fact this woman would, IMO, abuse an aspect of faith to try and get her own way like this really irritates me. My MIL ( now deceased) used to do the same thing and it made me so angry. She had many great qualities , and I willingly did so much for her, but using 'the Lord told me you should do this for me' got very old very quickly!

haha! Wishful thinking. But, I guess it doesn't hurt to ask, right? I think it does hurt to ask. Asking for something so cheap, unreasonable, and selfish labels her in other people's eyes. And not in a good way.

It's getting better. Apparently her childcare closed for medical reasons on the part of the sitter who didn't really want to close. Another mom on there pays about the same All the comments about how you get what you pay for, how can you trust someone to work for so little etc, have made her irate and she is now complaining about all the negative comments. But the real kicker: she used to work for a daycare so she knows what quality care is. I feel like asking her if the reason she is no longer a daycare worker is because she couldn't make a living on $2.02 an hour (before expenses) @johnnysmom, wow, that was a good situation for you but even in rural areas, don't people need to make a living.

It's $25.00-$30.00 a day per child in my area. Lots of SAHM's. So, that would be slightly below pay. It really depends on where you live. If I were to list an ad saying I charge $10.00 an hour, I'd get lots of comments that it's ridiculously high and good luck with that.
They aren't sketchy places either that don't care about kids and they want to just make money. Most are state certified.

Yes, one here wants 2-11 5 days a week and give her a ride to work for $300 for a one year old.

I feel bad, though, for people who can't afford to pay much for daycare. I never understood why people would expect someone else to get paid less than minimum wage to care for their kids so that they can go to work and get paid more. Having someone to care for the child is part of the package. Just like buying food and diapers.

To me this falls under the category of things you should have worked out before you decided to have kids.

Having someone to care for the child is part of the package. Just like buying food and diapers. Are you suggesting parents need to pay minimum wage for each child in a day care? That would add up to far more than minimum wage for the provider. In California, one worker can watch six children (four if they're babies). That would add up to $40-$60 per hour at minimum wage. I pay $30 for a half-day including pickup at kindergarten or $40 for a full day (in actuality, about 9:00-4:00). But I get the "friends" rate.

I thought my rates were low. I charge $150 a week per child. My hours are from 7-5:30. It's amazing how many people don't want to pay that and try to get me to lower my price. You do the math per hour, I'm not making much at all and it's a lot of work. And those who do agree with my pricing want me to provide everything and I just can't afford to do that. It's just so frustrating sometimes.

I used to pay that amount when my kids were little and they are in their 20's now. So I would imagine the rate has gone up, although most day care centers around here pay just about minimum wage that hasn't been increased.
I don't know what she can afford. It's hard when you find yourself needing child care but you can't afford it. I wonder if she could qualify for day care assistance?

Omg! That just reminded me of one I saw on a local FB group. I even screenshot it to send to my friend as a wtf.
for your pleasure, here it is: "ISO reliable permanent babysitter willing to work with me. I have a 3 yr old and a new baby on the way due end of March. I go back to work sometime in May and that is when I will need a babysitter. I work 3 days a week 7 am - 7:30 pm and am looking to pay $50 a week or if you have something else in mind less than $100 a week let me know. I'll need to meet with you first. You can come to my house if you're here by 6:30 am or I can drop the boys off at your house in the morning and pick them up after work. I have more details we can go over if you're interested. Message me on here and we can talk about everything (:"
So I raise you your one 1yr child for 47 hours for $100 and give you a newborn and three year old for 36+ hours for $50. Lol.

most people i know barely make $10 an hour, how on earth could they pay $10 an hour for child care? Is that true? Most people you know barely make $10/hour? Are you in a really rural area? The only people I know who make $10/hour are high school kids working retail/fast food. Cost of living in my area is really high though.

It is always surprising to me that people are prepared to pay more (hourly rate) to have their house cleaned than to have their children looked after.
