I understand giving your kids unusual names, I chose rare names for mine aswell. But they are easy to spell and the kids will not encounter serious problems when people are trying to pronounce them. Don't parents understand these unusual names (or unusual spellings of names) can be a burden to the child...? It is fun to see what weird names are out there though, so keep 'em coming

Occassionally I get spam email in my inbox and delete without opening. Two recent ones that I almost deleted were from Takelia and Cheniqua, sending some important financial documents.
I like Sapphire Blue.

I don't mind unusual names, but outlandish spellings make me roll my eyes. A person is going to have to explain his unusual name his entire life. Cut him some slack and don't make him pronounce it slowly and spell it out every. single. time. he's called or has to introduce himself.

He's now in the sixth grade where everyone has a tribe-given nickname. Know what the boys are calling him? Gravy. Lol...I never in a million years thought of that one. "They" also gave his best buddy the nickname of Biscuit. Together they are Biscuit and Gravy. So really, ya just gotta roll w it.

I started reading your reply and thought you were headed into some 50 Shades Of Grey thing....!! Gravy is much better! I had a few friends called Graham / Graeme and we always ended up calling them Gravy. Like it was the typical nickname for a person calle Graham.

Biscuit and Gravy - that's so cute. I knew a woman who named her DD Lillian because she thought it was a name that couldn't not be shortened. Hello?

Nicknames are fun too. Cute little boy in my class named Ryan. Mom calls him Ribs or Rib or Rib Roast. Our parents have to sign their kids in everyday. She signed Rib in one day. I had to remind her other people might have to read the sign in sheet in an emergency so sign his true name. Hahaha.

FWIW, I know an Opayal who is from India and when I googled it I found others with surnames that would indicate that is their country of origin as well.

I was just reading through my 7yo's Valentines and one of the names I saw was Raiden. I'll have to ask her if it's a boy or a girl.

For work I sometimes have to check the rosters of after school programs. I had a Mary Juana. The names with apostrophes and hyphens are out of control.

I was also quite impressed with the many different ways you can spell Kelsey, Kelci, Kelsie, Celcie, Kylsie, etc...

I could handle Sapphire Blue. I kind of like that one. DH had to reign me in on some baby names. I like India, he was dead set against it. He won - but I still love it for a girls name.

Vanina. A friend that teaches kindergarten has a student with this name. It's pronounced Vah-nine-uh. Wonder what mom was thinking when she gave birth?

For work I sometimes have to check the rosters of after school programs. I had a Mary Juana. The names with apostrophes and hyphens are out of control. that's a pretty common Hispanic name - many Catholic cultures include Mary as part of a name and Juana is the feminine of Juan (Spanish equivalent of John) and would be roughly equivalent to the English name Joanna or Jean...so no different really than Mary Joan or Mary Jean
