I live in the home of 10,000 casseroles (a/k/a HOTDISH), and I think I hate almost ALL of them. Nasty. Especially anything with any combination of cream of anything soup in it, elbow macaroni, tomato sauce, tuna, hamburger, chicken, potato chips, French fried onions, etc. My mom, who was a FANTASTIC cook BTW, would make some version of this slop at least twice a week. When I moved out on my own, I vowed that I would never, EVER make hotdish and so far I haven't. Meatloaf? Yes. Lasagna? Yes. Homemade mac n cheese? Yes. Other things with some of those ingredients? Yes. Tuna Noodle Casserole or Hamburger Hotdish? Not on your life! Puke. The other regional thing I'm not a huge fan of is walleye. I'll eat it if it's the only thing here but it wouldn't ever be my first choice.

Moose. Can not stand the taste of it. And caribou, I will only eat it as stew. Dh & the kids loves caribou, which is good since his hunt netted 60 pounds! Dh even loves the heart. Bleck! I can't stand the smell of it.

The "Cincinatti" version of chili. <shiver>
I am a native Arizonan... I know what chili is. Cincinatti chili, especially served over noodles, is NOT chili!!

I don't mind many of the things mentioned such as tuna casserole, or those made with creamed soups etc. Growing up during world war 11 we learned to eat what was available as so much was rationed. We even had horse meat a couple of times. Mom did fantastic things with what she had to work with. One thing I never could eat though was something served to us when we visited family in Indiana and that was fried chicken feet. My cousins would fight over them but oh my, ugh.

I live in San Diego and have zero interest in menudo or chicarrones (pork rinds). I came from ma and at the time I really didn't appreciate lobster but I do enjoy it now, but only have it maybe once per year.

Scrapple is gross. My brothers like it and ds16 has tried it and wants more. It tastes *ick* to me. Not as bad as liver or something but not good.
I've never been a fan of shoo fly pie either. DH loves it. Specifically Dutch Haven (Lancaster county, Pa store - looks like a windmill) shoo fly pie. Friends came to visit the other day. The husband and dh were chatting about all kinds of things, including favorite foods. It was a nice bit of normalcy for dh. As they were leaving, the guy tells me his parents are in Lancaster, he texted her to ask about getting a pie for dh. They were eating dinner across the street from that store! So the next day his wife texts me that she's bringing the goods. They live maybe 45 minutes away and she drove all the way over just to bring my husband this pie. He got quite choked up when he saw what they did for him.

I can't think of anything specific to NY. We eat a lot of EVERYTHING! I will say though, I had to Google a bunch of the stuff mentioned here: smalahove , lutefisk... If you don't know what Geoduck is, I invite you to Google as I just did. It ain't pretty!

I was in California years ago and there was a shop billing its pizza as "real NY pizza!" It wasn't. It was kinda sorta along the same lines but I do suppose, nothing tastes as awesome as our homemade pizzeria pizzas!

I just realized after reading this thread that there ARE Midwestern regional things-- casseroles and jello salads, lol!! I grew up on two jello 'salads' (I use the term salad loosely) that I will not ever willingly eat again (unless my Mom makes them, and then I would probably have to eat them): strawberry jello with banana slices, and lime jello with shredded carrots. Casseroles aren't too bad depending on what kind they are, but I would never make- or eat- one that used French-fried onions or tater tots (I don't think, anyway). My Mom used to make strawberry jello with bananas. I can't remember having that since she passed away 30+ years ago. I think I'll make some soon, just for the memories.

From the South of England, particularly the East End of London I think - jellied eels! Some supermarkets here are now stocking them in other parts of the country....but there is no way I am going to be persuaded to try them!!

I realized that I will try most foods once but goeduck doesn't sound very appetizing. I have finally tasted a cheese grits that I could eat and that was in Maryland.
I grew up on PA Dutch food and love shoofly pie and the likes but I draw the line at souse (pickled pigs feet in gelatin which is topped with a bit of vinegar). I love scrapple fried crispy served with maple syrup although everyone I know eats it with ketchup. My DH is polish so I have eaten piles of stuffed cabbages and peirogies but I can't stomach fried cabbage with noodles. The smell just turns me off. I have noticed that at his family parties (DH is from the coal region) no one will eat a jello type salad.
As previous posters mentioned Flitch sounds very much like potatoe candy. My mom made this for Christmas, the dough is made of powdered sugar and potatoes then spread with peanutbutter and rolled up like a pinwheel and sliced thin. I used to love it but now find it very sweet.

But I am also the freak who doesn't like chocolate, so take that with a grain of salt.
WHAT? Are you a Communist? What flag waving, red blooded American, doesn't like chocolate? Mumble...mumble, darn kids! What is this country coming to?

-Chitlins. No, just no. (And yes, I've tried it.) -Grits. Meh. What's the fuss? Waste of calories. -Collard greens. Blech. I can and have choked them down. -Lutefisk. I foolishly tried it once and had to run to the bathroom to spit it out. -Brats. Once a year is fine. They are okay, just don't understand the need to have them more than that. -Any cream soup based casserole. If I was forced to eat it, I could. But it would never be a choice. In particular the kind with the crushed potato chips on top. -Tripe. No, just no. -Certain kinds of Chicago-style pizza. In particular, the pizza served by a chain called Rocky Rococco's. OMG, disgusting. It's basically slices of thick partially uncooked dough with a sort of marinara sauce on top.

Backing away slowly. Seriously? Why? I just cannot stand BBQ. The taste or the smell. I tried to eat at Jack Stack BBQ and couldn't even sit indoors.

Over here, haggis - OH loves the stuff, but he is Scottish so it's in his breeding or was somehow implanted in his psyche from an early age. I am English and clearly don't have the palette for it! Honestly, I love it too.

Well, if any of these dishes taste/look anything like their names, Scrapple, geoduck, Mush, Shoofly pie etc, then I won't be rushing to try them the next time I'm in the States! geoduck is a very ugly sea creature but it's supposed to be fairly tasty. My BIL makes a very good geoduck chowder that is supposed to be better then clam chowder, but I've never tried it. We had too many other good foods to eat both times he made it It's not.
