How long did it take to get your bathroom remodeled?

You can probably get it done a lot faster than we did. Talk to your contractor about timelines. Of course, ours said 6 weeks.

It took us about a month to get our guest bath remodeled, but that's because our contractors spent their morning skateboarding/surfing :-)

We did a total overhaul, back to the studs. The builder estimated 3-4 weeks and it took 7. It would have been closer to 5 weeks but there was an issue with a custom shower door that held things up for almost 2 weeks. I would plan for 6 weeks regardless, because these things rarely go without one or two unexpected issues.

Funny that you ask. My DH is doing my very small bathroom (shower, no tub.) He began September 3rd.
So far, the floor, new commode and vanity are installed as well as the shower pan. The walls and tile around the shower are still in progress. - When he began, I asked, "Can we have it done by Christmas?" response: maybe


My BIL took 3 years on their redo.

I hope you have better luck. In his defense, he stopped to do Christmas baking. Obviously he does not work on it every day.

We completed a bathroom renovation 2 yrs ago in under 2 weeks. We had 3 people working on it and used off the shelf materials from Lowes. Kept the same layout, so it was simple. We did leave the tub in place, but we took out everything else including sliding glass doors, old vanity, toilet, and rotted subfloor and tile wall behind the tub. We rented a tile saw, put in concrete backer board and new floor tile. Installed a tub surround, new vanity with granite counter, lighting, painted, etc. made a huge difference. Hardest part was getting supplies home w/o a truck. Oh, and we were doing this only after work each night and on weekends. If you can find a contractor who doesn't have a lot going on and you're not using a lot of special order supplies, it should not take all that long.

My friend just had a contractor completely year out his bathroom and redo it. It took a month, but they had to move plumbing

We had 2 bathrooms completely gutted and rebuilt. Start to finish 2 weeks. 

Our contractor is a friend. We told him how long a period of time he had to work with. He told us he would make it work. People showed up Monday. They were done on the following Friday. Parents came home on the Sunday and we were back to normal by then already. (The parents went to Hawaii for the two weeks they were doing the bathrooms upstairs...yeah. That is a bit of a sore point still. Same with the kitchen reno. They went to Spain for that one...I nearly killed them for leaving me with that). 

Almost seven months. We had a toilet disaster that resulted in major water damage and the bathroom was gutted except for the tub. We went through our homeowner's insurance for everything except the conversion of the tub into a tub/shower. Unfortunately, we also went with the insurance company's preferred contractor (for a variety of reasons), which I attribute to the protracted timeline and absolute nightmare it was to get contractors out to work. We would be there, waiting for them to come out as scheduled, only to have them show up 10 days later. The only subcontractor we liked was the tile guy, who did amazing work and always showed up when he said he would, even when that visit was just to come and see that the contractors who were supposed to come do the necessary work before him were blowing his timeline.

I love my new bathroom, but if I were to do it over I would have chosen my own, well-researched contractor. One thing that saved us was that we made choices about vanity, tile, finishes, etc. well before the contractors told us we needed to have them, otherwise I could still be waiting for a bathroom.

No bathroom remodel, but floors this past fall. It took 6 weeks after they started demolition - estimate had been 7 work days. The "good" contractors have other projects going on and you have to get in line and the downtime when waiting to something to be set, dry or get your approval gets very frustrating. I love, love, love my floors. We worked with 4 different contractors.

In answer to the original question, mine has been ongoing for over 3 months as the builder had a pulmonary embolism just before Christmas. Back to work this week.

The original estimate was 4 weeks but took an additional 2-3 weeks. Our contractors were also finishing other jobs. We also did a tumbled marble shower pan that took a full day to lay out the pattern and grout. Also we wanted a little foot rest in the shower (best thing ever), and they spent time making that piece. Some plumbing glitches occurred as well. The niches you described are easy to install.

Make sure your base floor is solid otherwise you will have your grout cracking like ours. We have to have our floor redone. One bathroom the contractor replaced our flooring the other bathroom he subcontracted out and they didn't.

Make sure you have purchased everything ready to go down to towel bars so there are no time delays.

If you are really ripping everything back to the studs and taking out the old floor then I can't see it being done 2 weeks. The waterproofing needs dry time between coats and that alone can take 2-3 days before anything starts to get built. You really don't want to rush any of that "foundation" stuff - it could cause massive problems down the line.
