I haven't watched this show in many years, but for some reason I decided to turn it on last night and I think I might end up sticking with it. Did anyone else recognize that Will from the No Collar team is from this viral video from a year or so ago? ETA: Just noticed that you'll have to click on the YouTube logo on the bottom right corner of the video to be able to watch it.

Ditto everything jackie said. As soon as coconut vendor opened his mouth I called him Coach Jr. but he is already worse. And way too territorial on day 2! Speedo guy I liked on first impression but quickly changed my mind. I understand why they shut him down, he has very loud opinions. I cheered when Carolyn said she knew they were looking in the wrong place, and why, and when she found the HII. I thought the guy she told was going to sell her out but it looks like they are in cahoots after all.

I think he mentioned this on the episode but I had no idea what he was talking about. I just watched it, and it's great! What a good sport and his wife also. They seem fun.

I didn't recognize Will immediately, but as soon as he mentioned it, I knew who it was. I love that video!

I didn't recognize Will immediately, but as soon as he mentioned it, I knew who it was. I love that video! Exactly! When they mentioned there was a YouTube sensation in the no collar tribe, I figured it was feather guy. Then when they said Will, the singing gas pump guy, I knew too. Loved that video as well. I'm pulling for him to go all the way. Saw him and his wife interviewed on the Today show right after video went viral and they are such a fun, down to earth couple. I hope he goes far!!!!!

He really skeeved me out with how long he was hugging the girl.
I REALLY like Carolyn! I think she's got the smarts and can hopefully can stick around awhile!

DH says coconut/feather guy reminds him of Coach. I can see the resemblance.
Wow did he give me the creeps when he was grilling the girl about the other guy... Are you attracted to him? Ugh! Crazy!!
Was glad tha So went home
Felt band for the blue collar guys that didn't lie but the one girl on their tribe thought the did anyway!

I was going to say the same thing several others have mentioned--they have to dress like they do in life and Survivor producers have to approve wardrobe. Like Tiffany, I thought it was a great episode but I always love it too. I'm not one of those who complain about Survivor--I've kind of loved every season. I've loved some more than others but still enjoyed every single one of them. I agree with the majority though: Coconut vendor (did anyone think he was trying to channel Coach with the feathers in the air and his overall weirdness?) seems creepy. The way he was behaving with that girl was just weird--"yeah, but did you find him attractive?" The big guy on blue collar who I thought I was going to like (I love people who are obviously huge fans as opposed to those who are recruited--one of my biggest pet peeves about Survivor) I didn't care for. Wth was the yelling for? He went from friendly to crazy in a hot minute. I really like the guy on the no collar tribe that started the fire--was that Joe. I actually liked a lot of people. The white collar tribe is the most annoying, although I'm starting to warm up to some--beardie and the remaining two women. The woman who got voted out, So, I was happy to see go. As soon as she bragged and laughed about making so many people cry who worked under her, I instantly disliked her. Her partner in crime--the idiot who decided to go the Deceit route--seems pretty obnoxious too. I love, love, love that Carolyn was smart enough to follow them around, knowing that they would be hunting for the HII, and that she found it. Awesome. Of course I was screaming at my TV when she didn't use it. She clearly knew what was going on better than I, but now she has that in her pocket. I was impressed that two tribes made fire--good for them. I think doing it is a lot harder than it looks, but the fact that white collar tribe admitted that they "had no idea how to start a fire" was just plain stupid. At least research and attempt to learn. Looking forward to the season. Please bring back the survivor auction too. I am always so disappointed when they don't have that. And don't offer a clue or advantage at the auction--I just want them to bid for food and luxuries. As usual Jackie said exactly what I was thinking so I agree with everything she said above I watched the cast videos about an hour before the show started and wrote down some names of people that might go far. This was BEFORE the first episode. Vince (coconut guy, feathers in his hair) was one of the names on my list. I thought he might go far because he said he'd been on his own since he was 16 or some young age like that and yet he'd managed to travel to 37 (or some high number) of countries and he was a life coach (so he knew what people needed to hear). Obviously that theory got blown straight out the window half way through the first episode. OMG! This guy is a weirdo who will not make it far at all. His clingy behaviour with the Sailing Instructor (what is her name?), "yes but were you attracted to him"? WTH kind of question is that on day one or two? And then forcing her into a hug! Ick. She didn't like it one bit either. The other name I had written down was Max who is the Survivor expert and former professor who taught a course on Survivor. He's in the white collar tribe. I did notice when Jeff was asking for a volunteer from each tribe or for a tribe to pick a leader Max's voice came on saying that in Survivor this is something you never want to volunteer for because it always comes back to bite you in the end. He was so right! He's the bearded guy. I'm not sure how he'll do socially, but he knows this game inside and out. Certainly better than So or Joachin (can't spell it) the two who volunteered and decided to lie about their choice did. Not sure how athletic he's going to be though or how he'll do socially. At least he knows what he has to do. I also wrote down Joe's name who is on the No Collar team and I really like what I saw of him last night! I think he's got a really good chance of winning it all. As usual I make a prediction of who's going to win it all at the beginning and my prediction is Joe. He's got it all-he's the one who made the fire first. He's got looks for the girls, he's got charm and he's got athleticism. I also think Hali might go far although we didn't see anything of her last night. She's on the No Collar tribe but she's in Law School-that means she's got brains, but it could be all book smarts too. We'll just have to see. She's also got looks that she can use to manipulate the men with. Like Jackie said above it was interesting to see two tribes make fire and then the White Collar tribe struggle so much saying, "We hire people to make fire for us". Geez, Louise! You know you can't hire people out on the island-at least get your stuff together ahead of time and learn some fire making skills before you get there! That's all I've got other than I was glad to see So go after the "I've made so many people cry who work under me" just like Jackie mentioned. That is NOT something to brag about. I too disliked her immensely after that comment. A good boss/manager doesn't resort to this kind of behaviour in order to manage the folks beneath him/her. Obviously she's never heard of the phrase, "you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar". Or that positive discipline will gain you better results than negative. Debbie in MD.

I haven't watched Survivor for many years!! This one seemed great from the get-go, however, about an hour into it, I felt jaded enough by other reality shows to see signs of these people acting. I really hope that's not the case, but So in particular, seemed to be a really bad actress.

How is it that all of us who've been watching forever can call all these shots and the dimwits who actually go on the show have no clue? And can't find the idol even when they do, lol.
I agree w/everyone except while I like Carolyn, I think she got lucky last nite. History proves alliances are weak, especially early in the game. And all it takes is one set of loose lips at Tribal to turn everything around (remember Keith last season?). We've even seen people discuss strategy right in the open AFTER the vote and then turn over an idol. She NEVER should have trusted those guys. She got lucky, but now she owes him big time and could very well have a target on her back. I hope she does well, but things could easily go awry for her. Only time will tell.

Good point Tiffanytwisted. I like Caroline too. When she revealed that she had the idol to whoever it was (I can't remember but I know it was a guy) I immediately thought, "What are you doing! Crazy move to trust someone, anyone this early in the game!" But upon further reflection I think that might have been what saved her at the first tribal council. She let him know that So and Joquin (I really have to learn how to spell his name) didn't have the idol since all of the rest of the tribe knew they lied about the beans and knew they'd gotten the clue. They'd already proven themselves untrustworthy to the other 4 and I'm sure had the targets on their backs.
Personally I thought at first it was going to be the girl who messed up at the Immunity Challenge so badly with the puzzle-she lost that challenge for them. She should have tapped out much earlier and let someone else have a chance but she just stood there with only 2 pieces done for ages. Anyway, once I realized it wasn't going to be her going, and So was going around camp with Caroline's name I think what Caroline did with revealing that she had the idol made sense. Or she could have just kept her mouth shut and played the idol. That would probably have been a lot wiser because now with the idol she does have a target on her back.
Oh how I love this game! It has so many twists and turns and possibilities. I've watched every single episode since the first one-this season looks like it's going to be a great one. I'm so happy they didn't bring back all former players or half and half for their 30th season. All new players is my favorite option and I think Jeff and the Survivor executives are starting to realize that the fans prefer this too.
