Not sure what to do. I have never been to Plano Tx and I received a bill from the NTTA that said I owe over $100 in unpaid tolls. The license plate picture is not my plate either! I tried calling the customer service number but there is no one to talk to. I did a search online and this sort of happens alot with alot of people getting charged and not even living in the state. Not sure what to do. Dh says to contact a lawyer. Ugh

I'd send a certified letter to the NTTA people telling them that it is not your car nor your license plate.

I would start by calling the office in charge of license plates and explain the situation, since the plate is not yours. They must have the wrong address on file for the plate.
Secondly, send a letter to NTTA with the same info, that you do not own the plate in question, and do not owe the bills they claim you owe. I assume the bill was sent to you, with your name on it?
Third, I would seriously look into the possibility that your identity has been stolen and used, and take appropriate action. You may have to sign affidavits that the bill(s) in question is not yours and why.
This doesn't sound like a simple mistake to me. Something is definitely wrong that they are sending a bill to you for a license plate you do not own.

Call them. We had that happen and it was just a clerical error. In our case the dealership who filed our tags mixed them up with another customer. It took a few phone calls to get fixed, but no lawyers were necessary.

I would call them at this number 972-818-6882 and of they say that it is still yours ask for the Ombudsman program . We had this happen last year they were reading an H as a N and billing us.

I tried callubg that number several times and it says due to high call volume...no one to answer. This feels like a scary scam.

It's really not a scam. Just bureaucratic incompetence. Call volumes to places like that are always high first thing in the morning. Call back after lunch.

Whats even more scary is that the letter doesnt give you an option to dispute the bill...only to pay. When i did an internet search, there are several people in my situation. One guy paid it to make it go away....but then he got another bill.

I would keep calling until you talk with someone. Paying will not help, if you pay they will think whatever car is tied to you and keep billing you. Try calling late this afternoon or even tomorrow mid morning. We deal with them all the time, we were mis-charged once saying we went through the same toll 3 times in 10 minutes. Yes the only option on the bill is to pay but it is the same number to call for questions as it is to pay. Good luck!

Just so funny. I live in the midwest. I hope you guys are right. I found more complaints from out of state drivers saying that when they were able to talk to someone and explain the situation, they would agree but then nothing was ever changed. And another bill was sent with interest charges. Zipcash must have created an account for me because I never did. ?

Interesting article! Thanks for posting. The article states that the tolls are accurate. Surely, not in my chase. Ugh.

Interesting article! Thanks for posting. The article states that the tolls are accurate. Surely, not in my chase. Ugh. No, but it explains why you aren't going to get through probably today, since consumers were told to check their accounts today, March 2, online. Anyone who has a dispute will be calling. Eta: I'd be beyond frustrated if I were you. I'd go ahead and send a certified letter stating you are not the owner of the car matching those license plates. And keep trying to talk with someone, but start the ball rolling on your end since you may not get through to them for a while. I would also contact your DMV and explain that you are being billed for tolls that belong to the car with XYG license plates. Ask what they can do to help, since it is not your car, and they should know to whom it belongs.

I live in Fort Worth which is about 50 miles west/south west of Plano. Texas was closed for several days last week due to ice and snow.
I don't know where you live, but when I say Texas was closed, I mean CLOSED. Schools closed, stores closed, businesses closed . . . you get the idea.
Our snow and ice has started to melt, but it's caused a back-log. There may truely be a high call volume situation going on. Higher than normal. I realize this is a headache to you and that you'd like your situation resolved, but you need to be patient.
Continue calling until you get a live person or send a certified letter explaining the situation. It's probably a simple clerical error and you just need a person to help you with it.

I should clarify that the plate number portion they sent me is the same as my plate numbers But the spacing and state are different. I bet they couldnt find the owner of that plate so they did a nationwide search of the numbers andi was the lucky one.

Seriously, spend the $6, do a certified letter and wait to see what happens. Don't bother with the phone call yet - it will be a frustrating experience, even if do get through. NTTA is one of the worst for billing issues.

I received a bill from Houston a few years ago for toll fees. I sent a letter explaining I had not been to Houston and didn't own the car they claimed was mine. Never received another bill. I did have a Toll Tag from when we lived near Dallas and luckily never had problems with them.

So, what is the worst that could happen if you don't get in touch with someone?
I'm at a point in my life where I will only work so hard to fix someone else's mistake. I sure wouldn't repeatedly call.

Best time to call is like 7 in the morning when the first open.
My dsis just got screwed out of $500, almost all penalties for zip cash bills that she never received. I emailed her a link, THANKS!, I hope she can get her money refunded.

I sure wouldn't repeatedly call. Well, one of the worst things is that they can report her not paying the bill to the credit bureaus and seriously hurt her credit. There are a number of articles out there on the top 5 seemingly harmless things that can actually do damage to your credit and not paying your highway toll bill is one of them. And even if she eventually gets the NTTA to admit to their mistake, once it is on her credit report, good luck in getting the bureaus to actually remove it.

We had that happend 2x. Once while living there, and once after we moved. We weren't even in the state during the 2nd instance. Both times, all it took was for me to call and explain each situation, and that was it. We did not have to pay. It was super easy to fix in both of our cases.

My credit is excellent and I have no need to use what I have, so that doesn't worry me any. I stand by what *I* would do - one letter and/or one attempt at calling and I'd be done with it.

Update: I was able to get thru and talk to someone about the toll charges that are not mine. She didn't ask me any questions. I found that interesting. She just said that the acct has been removed out if my name. I asked for a confirmation number and she could not give me one. Hmmmm. I might call back in a week just to make sure there is no acct in my name. Thanks for everyones input on this matter.

I bet they couldnt find the owner of that plate so they did a nationwide search of the numbers andi was the lucky one. That is HUGE information. Make a copy of your vehicle registration. Write a letter explaining the situation. Make sure you send it certified. Trying to resolve this over the phone at this time is going to do nothing but frustrate you. It took me four phone calls to get a paid toll taken care of even after sending NTTA the cancelled check three different times. Just make sure you send the letter ASAP so if anything legal-wise is initiated on the NTTA side, you have documentation to show that you contacted them first.

I hate dealing with the paper billing so I just got toll tags for all our vehicles. As many times as we go to Austin and Dallas, it was worth it not to have to worry about the tolls. They charge you extra for paying by mail. It's ridiculous.
