So, assuming their feet haven't grown, how often do you buy new shoes? Do they have a few that they rotate between? My husband and I are having a discussion about this and I'm curious. I have to run to baseball practice but I will post more about our discussion later. Thanks!

Probably about every 4 months or so for his everyday shoes (Vans). I usually get some kind of buy 1 get the 2nd 1/2 off deal, so he rotates between those 2 pairs of shoes. He's 13.

Whenever they fall apart/lose their tread/stink to high heaven. Probably every 4-6 months.

We haven't gotten to the point yet that he wears them out before he outgrows them, but I'd replace them as often as necessary so they still look good. Ratty shoes bug me.

DD(15) gets a couple new pairs a year when we find cute ones on sale. DS(13) wears the same tennis shoes everyday until they're completely falling apart or until he's grown so much that his toes are poking out of them.

My kids go through shoes like nothing I've ever seen.
We get new shoes probably every two months, unless of course they've grown out of them, then it is sooner.

Thankfully, my boys feet have stopped growing, so we don't have to buy nearly as often as we did before. Although, I will say...the boys are mostly in charge of buying their own clothes and shoes as they want what I can't really buy for them right now. If they want it, they either save their money or talk their dad into buying it for them. And those boys have expensive tastes these days.

When they need new shoes.
Sorry, when they are too worn to continue wearing. Usually new shoes every 4-6 months, depending on how many pairs they have and how bad the weather has been. I just took my eight-year-old shoe shopping yesterday; I last bought shoes for him in September.

DS is 19 and we usually buy him 3-4 pair a year. He takes really good care of his shoes and is pretty budget conscious...usually I have to prompt him. Lacrosse cleats and running shoes are replaced 1-2 times a year.
Dd is 14 and we don't really have a set schedule. It's more like if we are out shopping and find a great pair at DSW type of thing.

Well ... my girls are 12 and almost 14 and have inherited my love of cute shoes. We all have way more than we need.

Let's say all the time. Very often. New shoes, again? We just got some? What about the second pair we got free? They are used up, too? How can they be shot? He was so hard on shoes. It was impossible but he killed more shoes than any human could! Now that he buys his own he is "very gentle" on shoes

My daughter will wear the same shoes til they look like hell and I beg her to find something at Zappos for me to order for her. My son has higher standards. I probably buy him 3-4 pairs per year.

When she asks or outgrows... She's 11 and thankfully not into fashion... Likes cute tops but her go to shoes are her lined crocs (ready for her to outgrow those!).

Whenever I see a cute pair.
I have tons of shoes so that I can match my shoes to any given outfit. Why wouldn't it be the same for my kids?
They probably have 12-20 pairs of shoes at any given time.
Not nearly as many as me bc their feet will change sizes faster than mine.

Ummm...my ds, 3 or 4 pairs. My dd's love to shop and love clothes (they're 10). I'd say they get anywhere from 6-10 pairs each year.

Younger son (15) wears his til they're falling off his feet and I have to beg him to let me buy him another pair.
Older son (18) used to get 1-2 pairs a year, depending on how fast his feet grew. These days, I give him a clothing allowance in September and include enough for one pair of shoes. He's free to spend the money how he sees fit. Right now, I think he's got about 5 pairs of sneakers in his closet and was showing me a pair online today.

Our 13 y.o. outgrows shoes about every 3 months. Over President's Day weekend, I bought two new pairs of running sneakers, two pairs of basketball sneakers, & a pair of lace-up dress shoes! Given the total cost every quarter, his shoes need their own line in our family budget. This thread gives me hope that we...uh, I mean...he gets to experience shoes wearing out before needing to be replaced soon!

3 months or so, plus specialty shoes (cleats, basketball, wrestling. ..) sometimes 2 months as they grow out of them.
Both kids have two main pairs to rotate

Every 4 months or so. The two kids have tennis shoes, slip on converse/vans, and dd has ugg type boots as well as 3 flats and ds has sketcher boots.
In the summer they both get sandals and water shoes too.

I would say we buy shoes about three or four times a year.
We keep two pairs of everyday/PE shoes, one pair of nice shoes, one pair of boots (winter or not-winter as the season dictates), and sandals in the summer.
None of us has an extensive shoe wardrobe in our home and I only replace them when they are outgrown or worn.

I need to hide my head.
My kids wear school uniforms, same shirt, pants and socks. Shoes are up to the student to a certain extent.
My kids have at least 10 or 12 pairs a piece. Converse, vans and doc martens and sneakers.
My dh shakes his head because he says I'm going to make them like me. I'd rather a pair of shoes over flowers and purses.

My 12 year old DD loves clothing and shoes, so she has a decent collection. She's getting shoes because she wants them rather than needs them. Like me.
My 9 year old DD has simpler needs. Right now, as long as she has a comfortable and well-fitting pair of sneakers she's a happy girl. She gets new sneakers twice a year, I'd say. I pick her up dressier pairs for church, etc. as needed.

I have three girls and they are always needing new shoes. They take the leather off the toes because they are always dragging them on the floor. They have their own boots, a pair that the two older girls share, each have tennis shoes, running shoes, sperrys. And I don't even want to talk about how many pairs of shoes they need for dance!
I wish my girls weren't so hard on their shoes. And they aren't little kids, they are 11-17!

Honestly, my son generally has a pair of sneakers/tennis shoes and a pair of dress shoes. In the summer sometimes we get summer shoes if we are headed to a beachy location.
My DDs have more, but I'd say less than 10 pair each ...
I generally where the same 5-6 pairs myself, so we don't tend to be big shoe shoppers unless we find a need rather than a want unless it is a really good deal.
I tease one of the young guys that I work with about his very expensive sneaker collection -- last I heard he had over 30 pair and each were at least $100 a pair....ouch!

That's my daughter. Son #1 can usually go a year with the same pair of shoes. He's not rough on things. Son #3 usually has three pairs of the same size because I may or may not have a hard time finding them. In my defense, he likes to throw things; a lot. ETA: don't know why the board is being wonky with the quote feature.

My daughter (16) would like shoes every week ... DS (14) every 6-12 months. He never says boo. His shoes were so tight on vacation last year we had to stop and get him some. Does he TELL me they were getting to tight NO. He waits till we do a 3 mile hike up and down, climbing rocks etc to tell me his shoes are about 2 sizes to small. DH looks at me like I should know this from reading the digital read out on the kid's forehead. Really? He could ask the kid some days too.... Males ... all of them!

Thanks for all of the replies. My boys are 12 and almost 10 and my daughter is almost 9. They always have some flip flops for summer/vacations and dressy shoes. My daughter tends to have several pairs. However, for everyday wear, my husband likes to buy one pair of nice/expensive shoes (tennis shoes) at the beginning of the school year. He wants them to last the whole school year. We have been pretty lucky that this has worked ok for awhile. Their feet don't seem to grow very fast (yet) and they stayed ok looking for the most part. I think the boys need new shoes now and my dh thinks they are fine. Anyway, I told him I would ask the Peas how often they buy shoes for their kids.
ETA: It's not a matter of money but a matter of principle to him, for some reason.

I buy each of them one pair of school shoes at the start of each year (usually $100+ each pair) and that usually lasts them the whole year. Then I buy other shooes, such as runners, as required ie. they've grown out of them or they have fallen apart. They both have 3 pairs of runners. They last a long time because they only wear them on weekends or PE days at at school. The kids live in thongs (flip flops) during summer.
DD is 17 and buys her own shoes (eg. boots and high heels) now. Her dad usually buys her runners.

My kids have been wearing the same shoes since September but none of them are getting worn out as they have multiple pairs for different activities.....indoor shoes, daycare shoes, gym shoes ( for our gym...they wear their indoor shoes for school gym), and right now their winter boots are their outdoor shoes.
I anticipating buying new outdoor school shoes once the snow starts to melt and will need to buy soccer cleats soon too.
My son went through at least three pairs of indoor shoes last school year as well as multiple pairs in the summer ( due to stinky foot-itis and being a rough little kid) so I'm pleasantly surprised with how long the current shoes have lasted!
