is talking? Last week, the young priest at my church introduced me to a friend of his from seminary who was visiting from Australia. I had to keep reminding myself that this man is a priest, he's about 15-20 years younger than I am, oh yeah, and I'm happily married. But I was completely riveted by his every word said in his sexy, uh... beautiful Australian accent. I think I may have even giggled while he was talking to me. I think he was quite handsome too, but to be honest I remember more what he sounded like than what he looked like. The young man asked me why people liked his accent so much and I didn't have a good answer, I just know I do. Who else is a sucker for an Australian accent?

I lived in Japan for 6 years and our English language cable carried Australian T.V. I'd have Home and Away (like Young and the Restless in the U.S) on in the background just to hear the accent.
Of course the best was visiting Australia itself. Too bad I had my DH & 4 year old DD with me. I'm kidding, I swear I'm kidding. But seriously, have you heard those accents?

I have to disagree and I'm married to an Ozzie. It's a horrible accent. Julia Gillard sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

I am LOL at these posts - when you live here it just isn't something you notice at all. I am sure the Aussie guys are milking their charm for all it is worth when they are overseas! Give me an Irish accent anyday

Her accent is very broad and horrible to listen to. There are certain types of Aussie accent that are abysmal. Does the Kiwi accent have the same differences Polz? They all sound the same to me but there may be regional differences or more broader types. Personally give me a French or Irish accent and my knees go weak!

Maybe you should google "Bogan Hunters" and tell me if you still think it's swoon-worthy! Here, I'll give you a link: Bogan Hunters I agree with the Julia Gillard comment, and yes the really broad Aussie accent is horrible. Normal people like me don't sound horrible though. I'm surprised reading this thread because normally people say the Aussie and Kiwi accents are the WORST! ETA: I'm a sucker for a Scottish accent.

I'm really surprised that people find the Aussie accent sexy!!! I love Irish accents. Oh, and my husband is Welsh but he came to Australia at 15 and went to a school full of English immigrants who couldn't understand him so he now sounds more English. I must admit I did like his accent when I met him. Corinne

It's funny, we have traveled to the USA twice and mostly get pegged as British. And no, we're not posh. But we don't sound like Julia Gillard either

I have to admit it's not my favourite accent. I like Irish, French and Spanish accents. I also like Southern USA ones.
I'm Scottish, so my accent is definitely one that's loved and hated in equal measures.

The only accent better than an Aussie one is an Irish brogue. Give me one of those voices on my GPS and I'll just drive around for hours listening to them talk. Bonus points if it's Colin Ferrell.

I've often said that I could just listen to a man with an Australian, Scottish or Irish accent read names out of the phone book to me and I'd be a happy woman. LOL

My first university had quite a few Aussie students. There were a couple I just could not understand. One was so broad I had to have her repeat everything she said to me the entire time I knew her. that was a year of "what??" LOL! The accent that makes my knees melt is the Kiwi accent. Of course, at the time most of the Kiwis I met were lovely young Maori boys. Sigh. Dreamy dark eyes, ridiculously good accent and somehow every single one of them was ripped. I loved my college.

For me, I think part of the attraction is most of the Aussie men I have met are friendly and charming and the accent is just the icing on the cake. We have a summer intern with an Aussie accent and he is just the nicest and friendliest young thing and the accent just adds to it. Several other young men about the same age are working here over the summer and not one of them has said good morning, hello, whatever to me. I am just someone who is significantly older and couldn't possibly have anything to say that would interest them. The Aussie introduced himself right away and chats any time he sees me. I can't say I swoon over him but he always brightens my day.
