So this is Molly's 5th day home from the kennel, and I'm happy to say that she's doing remarkably well, and still improving every day. She almost back to how she was before we left, in fact. She no longer has that glassy look in her eyes and is definitely more alert during the day, reacting to things (like the doorbell) much faster. Not a lot of barks yet, but she looks like she's thinking about it. When we walk her, she has almost a normal spring in her step, and is back to pulling us where she wants to go. DH walked her around the block for the first time yesterday and she did great, so they did it again this morning. In a few days, we'll start doing it again after dinner as well. Her appetite is back, and she's drinking normally. She still looks a little more stiff than usual when she gets up, but it seems to be improving. So all in all, Molly is doing really well, thank goodness, and the immediate worries about her are starting to dissipate. We'll still have to deal with the cancer at some point, but it definitely doesn't look like we'll need to worry about it right away.

So glad to hear that she is doing better. Did your vet determine the type of cancer it is?

So glad to hear that she is doing better. Did your vet determine the type of cancer it is? The initial biopsy came back "inconclusive" (don't you love that? $500 and we're no better off than we were before we did the test) so we don't know for sure. But we're pretty sure it's anal sac adenocarcinoma.

But we're pretty sure it's anal sac adenocarcinoma. Wow, that's too bad. I was going to ask if you had considered surgery and a Care Credit card to help pay for it, but according to what I just read, it doesn't have a good outlook (unless it hasn't spread). I'm so sorry. Kayley had a small tumor in that area and we had it removed, but the surgeon said that just by looking at it he was like 95% sure it was benign. The guy only does surgery so we were pretty confident in his diagnosis and did not pay for a biopsy.) We did have it removed though, because it was going to grow and cause her discomfort. (Maybe you should have an experienced surgeon look at it?) Again, I'm really sorry. It's so, so hard to be in that situation, I know.

We did talk to the original vet about surgery, but decided not to go that route for a number of reasons. At this point, she seems to be doing ok. If and as that changes, we'll obviously need to re-evaluate things.
