My DS (teenager) is going to Germany with a school group. No one else in the family has ever been there. He's asked me what I want him to bring me back, and I don't know what to answer!! Any suggestions? It IS possible for them to bring back beer/wine (the teachers handle it) but I'd actually prefer something else, due to possible breakage issues. They will be in Cologne, Rhineland, Freiburg, and Heidelberg. TIA!!

My daughter brought me a scarf and chocolates. Perfect. No breakage and the scarf took up almost no room. She brought her brother some cool old prints in german that she found at a flea market. They also took up no space in the suitcase.

Wooden Christmas ornaments. There is a particular look to them that is uniquely German.
Cuckoo clocks are expensive, and something I would want to pick out for myself.
If you like gummy worms, Germany has the best gummi candy... whole stores dedicated to it, even!

Wooden Christmas ornaments, for sure! Nutcrackers, lebkuchen in pretty metal tins, chocolate, beer steins, clocks of all kinds. I also really like German scissors, pens and drafting tools. The quality is impeccable, and they're very expensive here in the US.
Love the Kathe Wolfhahrt selections above! German wine, not so much.

I had a friend bring me back something for my dog. It was a blue bandana sewn onto a blue dog collar.

My mom lives in Germany and when she visits she brings me these chocolate balls (similar to the Lindt balls) that are filled with a liquor ganache. OMG...so freaking good. If I had any left I'd find out the name, but perhaps someone here knows what I'm talking about.

Ditto to incense smokers, beer steins, nutcrackers and Christmas ornaments!

Chocolates, gingerbread, REAL Gummibears, ornaments. The blown glass ones are gorgeous but they would probably have to be brought home in a carry on bag to prevent breakage.

Knorr salad dressing packets. They have the yummiest vinaigrette and cucumber salad dressing. Also pommes frites (French fry) seasoning. I picked up wooden Christmas trees in Heidelberg several years ago that I love. You put them together and they come with a bunch of miniature wooden Christmas ornaments to decorate. They are packed in a flat box so they are easy to travel with. I have a white one and a red one.

I lived many years there, and my favorite still to this day are all of my German Wooden Christmas ornaments. I LOVE them and use them every year on my tree. That would be my suggestion! Some of my other suggestions are now sold here in the U.S. so not so unique anymore.

And another vote for ornaments. We have so many we bought in Germany. They are amazing and irreplaceable to us now .

A lot of the touristy stores will ship fragile items for you, which is how my brother & his wife got a beautiful cuckoo clock & I got some awesome steins. I third the chocolate filled Mercedes. And a triple YES to the Christmas ornaments. I got a ton of great things, lace & ornaments over there.

I have a bunch of the wooden ornaments but my favorites are the blown glass ones and the hand-made ones made of wood shavings and straw.

The other thing I collect from Germany is Steiff animals. Oh my goodness yes! I forgot about those. How could I? I got one every year for Christmas and at other times. I have about 25+ of them and a lot of the larger ones. I loved collecting them.

Schokolade! Any grocery store has fun chocolates. Rittersport is my favorite. Tons of variety packs and choices, not expensive.

My DD went to Germany last year with school and she brought me back a great coffee mug in my favorite colours..... that was made in South Africa!! Other than that she brought back quite a bit of chocolate. They went to the Lindt factory over there. She also brought back a soccer jersey for DS which he loved.

I was going to suggest Rittersport too because it has always been my favorite but now you can get it anywhere in the U.S. Even local drugstores like Walgreen's sells it. Love that I can get it here now but it's dangerous. LOL!
