DS has been assigned a project that is centered around reading a historical fiction book. He can pick the book/subject and has decided he would like to learn more about Henry VIII. He looked on Amazon and came up with the book, The 6 Wives of Henry the VIII. Has anyone read this book? Is it okay for an 11 year old to read?
He is also considering the Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck which is on the suggested list of books his teacher gave him.
Any other suggestions for historical fiction that your kids (or you loved)?

By Alison Wier? Or by David somebody.... Anyway, I've read many books about Henry VIII and his wives, starting when I was probably that age. It is fascinating history, and there's adultery and beheadings. If you are ok with him reading that, I think he'll be fine.

I read and enjoyed The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir, but it's not fiction. It's a nonfiction book.
I loved The Good Earth, and I would think it would keep an 11 year old boy interested.

The Good Earth is also one of my all time favorite books!
DS is home sick today so we just looked up various books on Henry VIII and found something that might really be better for him. It is a book called VIII by Castor. Looks good and was written with teens in mind. Now he needs to get the ok from his teacher.

I think I was about that age when I read Anne of a Thousand Days..of course this was in the early 70's when books were not written with graphic detail.
For me, it would depend on when the book was written and the author. And if the book was written with children in mind.
has he looked at The War Horse? I understand it started out a children's book. A look at World War 1 thru the eyes of the horse.
also..
The Eagle by Rosemary Sutcliff, if he has any interest in Roman armies
