A couple more! The second one was taken with my phone as I was leaving a sumo tournament so the picture quality isn't the best.

How do you say bucket list in Japanese I wonder? Yume? We never had the expression bucket list when I was there.
バケツリスト but does it mean the same thing? Yoku wakarimasen.
(It would be easier to speak in Kyushu ben as that is what I speak on a daily basis. You won't understand it most likely. Tatoeba "Dou yen shaokai?" It sounds like it should be Mandarin but it actually means "Ogenki desu ka?" MIL used to say it all the time. If you dislike something "skan", don't want something iranai "iran", do you know? shitemasuka? Shitoukai? That kind of thing. And weird accents. It's cold outside..."Samukaaa!"

Beautiful Can't wait until it's out over here....a few more weeks to wait though. It's no where near as stunning as your photos but it is a welcome sign when the tree I have at the bottom of the garden blooms. We have quite a few small species lining the pavements ( sidewalks) around where I live too. Sadly, as you say, the blossom doesn't last very long and shorter still if it turns windy...which it does often...as soon as it blooms here!

I LOVE seeing trees with blossom. There is just one up here that I know of and I look forward to it every year! TFS. You've reminded me that when I was a child I had a Japanese pen pal (obviously before days of the internet!). He sent me some mother of pearl inlaid chopsticks which I still have as they do bring me joy . . to quote another thread. I can remember his name but not where he lived. I will have to get thinking.

Sorry Elannah - I hardly speak any Japanese. I gave it a go, but it's way too difficult. If I weren't a) really young at the time and b ) good with languages I never would have learned it either. I can't do math or sciences without killing my brain but give me a foreign language and I am pretty good. Chinese I never did master but if I had the chance I would have I am sure. I won't patronize you and tell you that you "just need to work at your Japanese..." it isn't easy. Living in Tokyo you can get by on English alone and that's good enough! What I said about the sakura was I would like to do hanami in Kyoto as a bucket list thing. I have done hanami oodles of times and that is fun and all but really want to do it in Kyoto for the experience. Knowing my luck it will be at the inlaws house and looking at the sakura across the street from their place but they do have good sakura right in front of the house! The Kyushu ben (dialect) is just some of the stuff we say there on a daily basis. Everyone would ask me do I eat this or that and I would answer with a suki or a sukan. Taberaren and tabekiran are the same thing. I can't eat. Figure that one out. The proper way of saying it is taberare nai desu or taberu koto ga dekimasen. It's no wonder Gaijin like us don't get Japanese. BTW you want to get a copy of the "Underground Dictionary" any way you can find it. Look at used bookstores. It is out of print and worth a fortune. It will tell you what a Kokeshi really means
