Got results from when I wore heart monitor for 24 hrs last week. Had 175 episodes. Now have to take beta blocker and magnesium. Anyone else dealt with this?

HUGS I am guessing you have Premature Ventricular Contactions or PVC? also known as abnormal heartbeats or heart rhythms? Heart Arrhythmias? I deal with it, but I have a pace maker as life long cardiac patient- so it doesn't scare me. You'll probably have usual check up with EKG's... monitors. Did they give you any other advice on a further long term care?

Sounds very manageable, but have they discussed implanting a pacemaker? I'm sorry you have to deal w/this.

Great results this time... Only 340 irregular beats and no couplets... 6 months ago it was over 1000 and numerous couplets.... Point is, take your meds... He is taking sotalol....

Yes, DH woke up one day out of the blue having palpitations. Discovered he was having frequent PVCs along with high BP, he was stated on a beta blocker and they gradually went away. He only gets them now if he is without his medication for a few days. Has been taking a beta blocker for 15 years. He takes atenolol.

Sounds very manageable, but have they discussed implanting a pacemaker? I'm sorry you have to deal w/this. That would not be something they'd want to pursue for 175 PVCs in a 24 hr period. Not being bitchy, just don't want her getting worried or upset at the thought that she might need one! Medication is the first step in treatment and often the only one needed, and that includes a beta blocker (as long as it's tolerated and not contra-indicated, of course) and addressing any electrolyte concerns (I'm assuming your potassium was ok but your mag was low).

175 really isn't very many. Many have thousands a day. Which beta were you put on? Sometimes they can have sideffects. Magnesium and potassium are very important for heart health. Are you on a prescribed kind or over the counter. I've heard some brands are definitely better than others. But I'm not sure which as I've always taken prescription strength.
Hopefully the betas knock then right down.

Zee thank you for educating me. I apologize if I scared the OP. I don't know anything about cardiac issues other than having had a father w/cardiac disease and a pacemaker. His issues were different and I should realize that cardiology is vast.

yup it all depends on medication they put her on. It depends on electric system and how it responds to the meds. There is so much they do these days. I am constantly amazed. PS. I didn't think either posts were 'bitchy'. I hope the beta blockers help.

Yes. I am on Diltiazem to control my irregular heart rate. It's a time release capsule that should last 24 hrs, I start feeling the missed beats at about 22 hrs. I take it right before bed & it's helped a lot. Best of luck to you. It's pretty manageable for me.

I have an arrhythmia. Every 14 minutes my heart throws in a six extra beat series. I take metoprolol. No problems.
