I was talking with a friend the other day about older TV shows that we used to watch together and how some things just stick with you no matter how long ago you watched it.
We both are still freaked out by the scene in ER where Carter and Lucy are stabbed. I don't know what it is about it, but I had nightmares for weeks. I love ER, but refuse to watch that episode again.
Also, the Facts of Life episode with Blair and super big hair and freaky face. I was watching it with my sister and was so scared.
Those are the two that stick out for me.

Most definitely repeatedly watching the plane crash in Lost. Honestly wished I'd never watched that show; that plane crash has definitely made me afraid to fly. Dang--I'll probably never get it outta my head.

In MASH when Colonel Blake died and Radar announced it on the radio. See, I probably watched that show 40 years ago and it still sticks out in my mind.

Also, on Breaking Bad when Gus realizes he has been set up and there is an explosive on the wheelchair. He had always been so calm and in control of everything that to see the fear in his eyes in that instant, and then him walking out of the room after, was shocking.

Grey's where they realize George is the horrifically injured patient they're working on.
WW when Toby finds Josh shot. And then when they tell Donna the news.
WW when POTUS and Abby come off the helicopter and Abby starts moving toward the ambulance where Zoey is then starts running and yells Zoey's name.
The whole WW episode where they deal with Leo/John's death.
That's for starters.

OP, I also clearly remember that scene in ER when Carter and Lucy were stabbed. Such a powerful scene.
And while we're on the subject of ER, I'll never forget the episode where Carter and Thandie Newton's character (name?) had the stillborn baby. Wow. I was on maternity leave at the time and that episode hit me like a ton of bricks. I still feel teary eyed when I think about it.

The rapist story on Little House. There's another one but I can't remember what it is. Also super creepy.
Any of the Gillies plots on Murdoch Mysteries (Artful Detective in the States).
(This is probably where I admit I never watched Grey's or ER... so I am not sure about the scenes mentioned)

Murphy That episode of Grey's was moving also. I remember the looks on all of their faces as they realize it. ER has quite a few really good episodes. I also love the one when Dr. Green dies. It is so powerful and really sad.

There was an early ER where Dr Green misdiagnose a pregnant woman who ultimately dies of pre-eclampsia. Bradley Whitford played the husband. My husband watched this after I had just went through pre eclampsia during our first pregnancy. Our situation ended well but the reality hit him like a ton of bricks when he watched. And he told me not to watch.

Carter and Lucy getting stabbed, when Lucy actually dies, when Dr. Green dies and Carter reads the letter to the staff, when Dr. Romano gets his arm cut off - ER had some powerful and WTF moments.
In Lost, when we first see who is on the hatch (Desmond), Charlie dying after giving Desmond an important message, Ben's daughter being killed, the first "flash forward" episode, and Juliet getting pulled into the shaft to her ultimate death all stand out for me. Hank's death in Breaking Bad, Walt telling Jessie he watched Jane die.
Definitely the rapist episode in Little House, though I was too young at the time to understand exactly what was going on.

I have two that stand out, (1) Happy Days when Fonzie's girlfriend, Pinky Tuscadero dies in the demolition derby, and (2) when Shawn Cassidy's girlfriend's car went off the cliff in one of the Hardy Boys' episodes.

This Little House episode was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the thread title. The guy wore a clown mask, and that completely solidified my dislike of clowns. Thanks, Michael Landon.

Season 1 finale of The Big C. The storage container. Also the very last episode of it, I think it had 4 season. There are a couple of moments i Game Of Thrones that comes to mind, just because they were awesome For those who watch it: 'I demand trial by combat!' and Viper & The Mountain Can't wait till it's back on!! The final five minutes of The Jinx were bone-chilling. The Affair; when she tells him about the death of her son, sitting in the car... Rescue Me; season 3 ep 10. Tommy's freak out in the bar after he thought he saw his dead son on the bus. This show also had some pretty tough scenes involving the firemen trying to rescue children and babies. My So-Called life; the hallway scene when he takes her hand is the most romantic scene ever.

I almost died.

Pretty much all of the scenes in ER already mentioned as the one with Carter and Lucy was the first thought that popped in my head when I saw the title of this thread.

My husband watched this after I had just went through pre eclampsia during our first pregnancy. Our situation ended well but the reality hit him like a ton of bricks when he watched. And he told me not to watch. I wasn't a regular watcher of ER and I remember that episode, Love Labor's Lost. That whole episode got to me but especially the scene at the end when Dr. Green breaks down on the train ride home. Others for me are the Home episode of X-Files. Again, the whom episode got me, but especially when the brothers show up at the sherrif's house to kill him and hi wife. They pull up in their car with Johnny Mathis' "Wonderful, Wonderful" playing and then they go in and brutally murder them. The wife is hiding under the bed and watches them kill her dh and then they yank the bed off her and kill her. I can't hear that song now without thinking of that scene. Another haunting scene for me is the Justice Swerved episode of LA Law. A couple is tried separately, each blaming the other, for the death of their disabled baby. The jury can't decide who did it (or if it was natural causes) so neither is found guilty. In the end scene, in the elevator, you see their fingers quietly touch and you know they murdered that baby together.

The St. Elsewhere episode where David Morse (Dr. Boomer Morrison) finds out his wife has died in a car wreck while he was at work, her heart was donated to someone else before he could get to her and he tracks down the recipient and goes to the hospital room and lays his head on the recipients chest.

I could write all day about episodes/scenes that haunt me--just from Joss Whedon shows!

The episode of Nip/Tuck where the woman dying of cancer ends her life and puts a plastic bag over her head. They were playing "Rocket Man" during that scene, so every time I hear that song now, I remember that scene.

Funny a lot of us remember scenes from ER. One thing that maybe not haunts me so much as it changed how I did things was an ER episode that a child was running around with a metal hanger and fell wherein the hanger got lodged in the roof of the child's mouth endangering his life. I had a child exactly that age, and I promptly got rid of every single metal hanger in my house and switched to the plastic ones. It was a completely irrational response, but in my defense it was my first kid and I WAS irrational.

I don't remember what either of the shows were (they could have been movies - I was too young when I saw them) but one scene was a man being tortured by having his teeth drilled while being held down in a chair. As if I don't already have enough dental phobia, having it used as a torture scene did me in.
The second scene was an old man strapped to a chair and being tortured by having body parts (I think I remember his finger and shoulder/arm) being sawed off. Haunts me.
I don't know what my parents were thinking, letting me watch terrifying movies & shows when I was under ten years old!
A movie that I chose to watch was one of the Saw movies. The scene was when the guy had to crawl through the razor wire tunnel. Oh my.
All the Saw movies were too much for me. I've only watched bits and pieces of them. Could never get through a whole one.

I read somewhere that it was banned from being shown on network TV in re-runs. The mother under the bed...... Ugh!

I really need to delete some of the 90+ episodes I've already watched. That Gillies character was creepy. I remember gasping in shock the first time I watched the MASH episode about Colonel Blake- so sad. The most memorable episode ever for me is still the series finale of Newhart- when he wakes up from a dream, next to Suzanne Pleshette. My parents and I watched it faithfully and we were so familiar with the original Bob Newhart Show. We got such a kick out of that final scene!

Mine is the rape from Little House on the Prairie. Also the final episode of MASH when the woman smothered her baby.
