How do you feel about them?
In Texas, we cannot sell liquor on Sundays. I guess because people don't want you going to church drunk?
Also, car dealerships are not open on Sundays. There is a law being proposed right now that would allow car dealerships to open on Sundays. However, the BIG car dealers do not want to be open on Sundays, so they don't want that law to pass. They do not want to be open an extra day. They say that sales would be negligible. But why does there have to be a law? If a car dealership chooses to be open on Sunday, shouldn't they be allowed to be open on Sunday? If you choose to be closed – that's your business. Don't keep others from opening on Sunday if that's what they want to do.
I find it so ridiculous that a state that is all about individual rights would have a law as silly as this. I don't really think it's about individual rights – I think it's about the rights of individuals that have power.

I don't even know what a blue law is, so I'm guessing we don't have them. Off to google.
ETA: Nope, no blue laws in Oregon. The car dealership thing is WEIRD to me. When do people buy cars if not on the weekend? Saturdays and Sundays are slammed at dealerships around here. Last time we bought a car, it was on a weekday and the salesperson told me that they only do about 25% of their sales business M-F and 75% on the weekend. (Service is the opposite.)

Leftove attempts to Legislate "morality"...it's a throwback to simpler times.
It is silly.

Blue laws are by county here and we do have at least 1 county where all stores are closed on Sunday.
There are also some shore towns that are 'dry' meaning no alcohol can be sold within the town in any way on any day. To compete with other town some have chosen to cater to family activities only and it seems to be working for them as there are many famiee that want to go to the beach but do not want to deal with the wild out of control issues some towns have.

I'm in Texas too so yes, I know about the Blue laws. The current auto sales law is that you cannot sell on consecutive Saturday and Sunday so you can open on one or the other. All of them choose to open on Saturday instead of Sunday. There was a local dealership that tried opening on Sunday instead of Saturday for a month or so. That ended quickly so I guess it didn't work out for them. I don't really care if they repeal the law. But, I really do like having one day on the weekend to go look at vehicles without getting bombarded by sales people. However, last time I went to a lot, there were salesmen there ready to come hand you their business card and ask you to be sure and ask for them when you come back during the days they are open. Liquor sales can also be repealed. Again, I don't care. You can already buy by the drink in restaurants so its not like you can't drink on Sunday. I guess that encourages drinking and driving instead of letting people buy a bottle to take home to drink. LOL

katybee Is alcohol sold in grocery stores in Texas? Is that section of a store locked up on a Sunday? I personally think Blue Laws and Dry Counties are a bit antiquated. When I reached drinking age, we could only buy alcohol at government run liquor stores that only took cash and had restricted hours. I'm sure they weren't open on Sunday so you had to plan and shop ahead for the weekend. I really like being able to buy my wine/beer with my groceries any day of the week.

I personally think Blue Laws and Dry Counties are a bit antiquated. Only a BIT?! Every time it comes up, I'm astonished that dry counties and/or towns exist in the US in 2015. It's crazy to me.

I know in Minnesota you can't buy liquor in restaurants unless you buy a meal, like if you want to have a cocktail, you have to make sure there's food in front of you. Bars are a different story, I believe. In California, anything goes!

When I lived in a state with blue laws, the grocery stores didn't sell alcohol, and no liquor or cars on Sunday. I found the entire thing to be bizarre.

I live in Utah. Enough said. Ha! My husband was recently recruited for a job in Utah. Professionally, it was a good fit, but the fact that it was in Utah was a big strike against it. We decided that these craft-beer-loving, tree-hugging, non-religious, liberal Oregonians would probably not be very happy living there

katybee Is alcohol sold in grocery stores in Texas? Is that section of a store locked up on a Sunday? [ Grocery stores do not sell liquor at all. You must go to a liquor store to buy liquor and they are definitely closed on Sundays. Grocery stores sell beer and wine… And I believe that on Sunday you can buy it after noon? Those sections are covered up with tarps until sales are allowed. Because God forbid you watch a football game without your beer! So clearly, football-lovin' men changed that law a bit. It seems a little hypocritical – don't you think? Beer is okay… But whiskey – whiskey's made by the devil!

In NC here, and yes, we have blue laws. The county north of me by 2 miles is also a dry county so no alchohol sales there at all.

No blue laws in WA. About a year ago grocery stores were allowed to sell hard alcohol (previously only wine and beer). But, heck you can buy pot legally here too.

I'm not Katybee but I am in Texas. First, liquor/beer/wine sales all vary by city and sometimes even the area of a city. Not all liquor laws are statewide. In my area, I don't believe there are any liquor sales in grocery stores, only beer and wine. There are some stores (stores whose primary purpose is alcohol sales) that will be split into two separate stores with separate entrances, etc. One side will sell mostly liquor but usually also has some beer. I can't remember if these typically have wine. I haven't been in one in a long time. The other side will be much larger and sells all kinds of beer, wine, champagne, etc.............just no liquor. The liquor side does not open on Sunday. The stores that I know of that have everything all in one store do not open on Sunday.

Yes. Only hard liquor in liquor stores. No alcohol sales before 11am in my county on Sunday's. It's stupid. And we don't even drink. Lol.

pretty sure we don't in Arizona... maybe something restricting alcohol sales between certain hours in a convenience store, but I don't even know about that for sure.
ETA: you can buy hard liquor in the grocery store, and you don't have to buy it in the liquor section of the store-- you can go through any checkout line. (but you have to buy cigarettes at the customer service counter.)

I haven't seen one locked up or sectioned off in many years. There are usually a few signs that will remind you that you can't purchase until noon.

Ours has some that weren't lifted... it depends on your location... Some areas you can get alcohol on Sunday's ...there is no auto sales on Sunday ... I was discussing this with my sister a few days ago... I remember there was a time you could only get/do few things on Sunday or at least that's from my memory

Michigan used to have some on the books. There was a time when you couldn't buy alcohol on a Sunday. Then it became you cannot buy alcohol before noon in the store. Now, you can pretty much buy it whenever you want except between 2am and 7am.
Vehicle sales are banned on Sundays in counties that have 130,000 or more people. That's most of the LP.
We used to have a law against hunting on Sundays until about 12 years ago.

Most in Texas think our auto sale restriction Blue law prevents the dealerships from selling on Sunday but that is not correct. It prevents them from selling on consecutive Saturday and Sunday. Dealerships choose to open on Saturday instead of Sunday. Still a crazy law but that is what the law is. The dealership can choose to open and sell on Sunday if they wish.........they just have to close on the Saturday before instead.
I suspect this will be repealed.

Our HEB justt ropes off the wine and beer aisles… But it's not like you couldn't jump over if you really wanted to. But if you try to take it to the register, they won't sell it to you. I know this, because once I tried to buy some wine for cooking. It wasn't roped off at the time and I simply forgot. Because it's such a stupid law.
