Good question, I have actually flushed a bracelet down a public toilet, it fell off my wrist as I was flushing so I just said goodbye, it was only a five dollar bracelet and it was heading down the drain faster than I could react. Now at home I'd probably try not to do that since if be afraid I'd have to call a plumber.
In your scenario I'd probably have grabbed it and washed it.

Our smallest bill is a fiver, and yes I'd be fishing it out of the bowl. Also, our money is polymer not paper and it survives washing very well. I once found $90 in the washing machine that DSO had forgotten to take out of his pockets - SCORE! It makes you think though....... How much of the money currently sitting in YOUR pocket or wallet has previously been floating in someone else's toilet bowl???

I'm so frugal I would pluck out any amout. There's this invention called soap & water, I hear it kills germs!
Wait, I have to amend that, I would not risk falling in a porta-potty for coins. lol
