Wasn't Kate due today? (April 25)
Can we start a royal baby countdown thread? I'm excited!

I don't believe they ever released a due date.

I know it's supposed to be sometime around now, but I'm not sure of a date. I hope it's a girl

No date was released but Kat did say mid to late April. So sice it is now late April, she is probably around the 40 week mark.
I too hope they have a healthy girl this time. Can't wait to hear what the baby's name is.

Last time they didn't release a due date either and it was all speculation and baby George arrived about 10 days after the speculated date. So there might be some time to go yet.
At least this time they have stopped the media camping out there until Kate is admitted. They did a bit on the news here last night and they were talking to a bookie and he said that 80% of punters thought the baby was going to be a girl. I thought it was going to be a girl the last time & was obviously wrong. This time I'm thinking it could be another boy.
Perhaps one of the UK members could pop over to the Palace and ask them what's happening? "Excuse me, I belong to this online message board and we were just wondering...." I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem. Who's volunteering?

Didn't we have someone who went to the Palace for afternoon tea? Surely she and the Queen are BFFs now and she can get the inside scoop!

I think I read on People's website a couple days ago that her due date is the 25th. I'm crossing fingers for a tiny Diana! <3

The bets are that it'll be a girl named Alice - we'll see!

No due date has been released for the new baby - any date reported is just all guess work. The Duchess of Cambridge was at the Gallipoli ceremonies yesterday with Prince William so she felt confident to appear in public!

No matter what, the best of luck to her for an easy time and a healthy baby.
Did we ever find out if George was past his due date? Did they ever say what his was? I don't recall although I do remember the media outside the hospital and some of the inane things our journalists were saying.

Alice?? UGH No offense but..... It has a royal history But really, who knows. I guess we can eliminate some of the creative names we see discussed here sometimes but it'd be fun if it was something less predictable!

I don't think there is the same pressure to name this baby with a traditionally royal name, although I don't think it will be that of a far out name. The chance of him/her becoming King/Queen is very far removed, there's already three in waiting before him/her!

Alice?? UGH No offense but..... I think it's a lovely name and it's a name with a lot of royal history. There have been many Princess Alices through the Royal family tree. I'll be honest, I really don't like the name Diana. I think there's too much focus on that name and the person behind it. Bluntly, I think it would be a mistake to saddle a royal child with that name. There would be no getting away from comparisons to her grandmother with that name. It would be stupid to do that to a child. As for the due date, nothing was announced. Everything is speculation. Everything seems to be ramping up though. So it should be interesting to see when it happens.

I see no reason for anyone not to pass the name of their mother on to their child. Prince William would be no different than anyone else in that respect.

No one can be more aware than William of the impact the name Diana would make on a child of his. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a middle name though. Well, unless it was a boy obviously

Alice is coming back in vogue. We have three in our current cohort at preschool. I quite like it. The UK is slightly different when naming kids. I know lots of peas didn't like the name George when they had their first. But it is a pretty popular name here.

It won't be as much of a burden for a kid. But as a first name? Ugh. I'd be wanting to change that name lickety split if it were me once that burden was recognised. We're not much of a naming after parents family though. My middle name was my great grandmother's name and that's about as far as we go. So that's probably where my point of view comes from. I used to like the name Diana, being a LM Montgomery fan. However, after all the Princess Diana hype I'm just over it. I may have felt differently if her story ended differently, but once a name gets a bad connotation for me I really have a hard time with that name.

I hope, for the baby's sake, if it's a girl, they do NOT name her Diana. That is a ton of pressure on a little girl and she no doubt would be compared to Princess Di the rest of her life. I would hope William would not do that to his child. Kate's middle name is Elizabeth and a nod to the current monarch is nice, but if they do call her that, I'd love to see her be called Libby or Beth for short. (I know, never would happen) I really love Charlotte as a nod to Charles (and Uncle Charles Spencer). It's a lovely name for a little princess. I'm thinking they've seen and heard the betting list and maybe they've chosen something totally different from all the suggestions. For boys, I like Arthur, but then again, so much history with that name and King Arthur. Would it be too much? I would love to see a nod to Diana by calling a boy Spencer, but again, I know the Queen may frown upon that too. At any rate, I just can't wait to see and hear the name too!

I know lots of peas didn't like the name George when they had their first. But it is a pretty popular name here. This was a bit ago, but if either of my boys had of been girls, they would have been an Alice. One of my most favorite people in the whole in entire world was an Alice and I wanted more than anything to be able to name one of my people after her. As it was, her last name became my youngest's middle name. So a baby princess Alice would be more than okay with me! (in case they care about my opinion. LOL) I am strangely and mildly obsessed with the royals.

I think Alice is a pretty name too and I know quite a few young Alices, not babies, teens and early 20s so it's always around as a classic name I think.

My mother is in her 70's (disclaimer)
We were talking about the royal baby the other day and she said that there hadn't been a Richard in a long time and that Richard was a nice traditional royal name. Noooo, I'd bet my house that they won't use a first name that can be shortened to 'Dick' by the media!

There is no bar to shortening a name in the royal family - The Queen is known as 'Lisbeth' to family and close friends. Prince Harry is actually 'Henry' but it was announced that he would be known as 'Harry'. Charlotte is a name used in the past by the royal family as well so could well be used again. The Queen is informed of the names to be given to a royal baby before they are announced publicly of course but does not usually require any direct approval of the name choices. All royal babies are given several names so there is a chance that 'Diana' could appear at some time. For instance, The Queen is actually Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, The Princess Royal is Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise and Prince Charles is Charles Philip Arthur George.....all names used over the centuries in the royal family.

Alice?? UGH No offense but..... There's got to be a good chance of it being used though as it is a favourite royal name and also the name of Prince Philip's Mother.....who was Princess Alice of Greece (Victoria Alice Elizabeth Julia Marie).
