I want to make a fairy garden. I looked up many ideas. What has worked for you? I think shade is best, correct? What plants can you use for shade and that they stay small? TIA

I have two. One indoor and one outdoor. Here's a picture of my outside miniature garden in a large urn in one of our front garden beds. I've been doing miniature gardens for several years and it's amazing how popular they have become, which is fun because it's easier to find supplies.

Here are pics of our Fairy Gardens. We have one on our covered front porch. It gets mostly shade. It you can find a nursery you can probably find everything you need. I planted a plant that spreads that they call "fairy tears" it is the little green leafed stuff in the front. I also planted Fairy Vine next to my little archway. I also planted alittle bit of moss and then I got a few plants that are made for terrariums. these usually stay small. Mine is planted in a Concrete mixing tub that I got at home depot for abouot $8. I also cut up a pool noodle to put in the bottom so that it was not so heavy and I could move it. This is my 2nd year planting this one.
This round one is my kids. it is a metal drink tub that we used for parties a few times, then it got left outside and it faded in the sun, So I let the kids plant in it. This one below is actually their from last year, They add something every year. Last year after this photo was taken, they found decorative pond instead of the make shift one of glass pieces. This year they have not planted their garden yet, Hoping to get to that this weekend. But at the garden center the other day they found a 3 tiered "fountain" so they are going to add that to their pond. its hard to tell, But they have a few turtles, frogs, ducks and a flamingo in their garden too! They usually plant some moss, cause they love that it spreads, those little pink leafy things you see planted in there in the pic, they got some of those again and then they like to plan reg annuals, they like the different colors of flowers.

These look and sound adorable!! So doing this with my kids - it's going on the list (that's the list of things I SAY we'll do and we never get around to, lol).
What about bonsai? They could look fabulous.

JoAnn's has their Fairy Garden stuff 60% off. I went to HL and couldn't find their stuff. HL moved the store around and didn't see the display at Michael's, must have moved the display, too. Great to know this. I have coveted this stuff since it went on display but didn't want to pay full price.

Then it disappeared...they didn't even clearance it out. Was really weird.
