I'm torn on how to proceed. I've been counting WW points plus for a couple weeks now and I don't know that I'm feeling the love for it as I have in the past.
I'm considering tracking calories in My Fitness pal instead .
What do you prefer and why?

I prefer the counting calories because the food I like may not necessarily be high in calories, but it is high in points...so I end up hungry and grumpy on WW. For example, I get about 30 pts a day, and my daily frappucino uses 7, even though it's only about 180 calories (Skim, no whip and all that). I know I could give up the Frap, but I would much rather just work it into my life and with calorie counting I am able to do so.

11 years ago I had great success with South Beach Diet. 6 years ago I counted points and had great success. I was also going to meetings each week. 3 years ago I tried WW and couldn't make it work again. So, I went to MFP and counted calories. I had a little success and then injured my foot and gave up. Last year I tried to count calories again and couldn't stick with it. I was making poor choices within my calorie goal and then ending up hungry and cranky. So, I've changed to the 21 day fix and it's working for me now. It's not counting calories, but counting servings of food groups to ensure that I (1) eat a balanced diet and (2) that I'm eating enough that I'm not hungry. I think that the BEST diet is the one that you can stick with.

Can I vote neither? You might consider looking into eating Paleo / Primal. It's high fat, low carb basically. Lots of good protein, healthier carbs, and healthy fat = good. You can quit counting anything if you eat this way, and the pounds should melt off. Visit Mark's Daily Apple to help give an overview. (The gist is that modern food is full of sugar, and you need to get away from eating that crap. Sugar = bad carbs = hello body fat. Low fat foods are full of sugar, so avoid them for sure.)

I counted calories. I used Lose It app (similar to My Fitness Pal), as well as my dh. We even made custom meals based upon our own versions of recipes and put the calorie count in.
Good luck!

Points because it's easier to quickly tally to 29 than 1500. I can think back or think ahead 5 plus 2 plus 3 is 10 so I have 19 left. I don't even have to write it down or enter it in an app. On the other hand 63 plus 275 plus 184 is....um...still counting and then minus that from 1500... I like that Points Plus takes fibre, fat and carbs into the equation. I like that when I'm out and looking at a label I can roughly count that each 50 calories is 1 point.

I used My Fitness Pal and counted calories. It worked and was really easy. I liked that I could put in my own meals and save them so when I would have leftovers and things I could just put the meal in again without adding in each and every ingredient. I think it's really well designed.

For me, Calories. I'm back at it as of Sunday. I use MyPlate app on my iPhone. I've tried the "Lose It" app and the "My Fitness Pal". It's just a personal preference, but I much prefer the data base for MyPlate.
It does work. I lost 15 lbs using the App, then I fell and got off my feet and regained it. I'm fine now and determined to get back on track. I also track my walking with my Fitbit One, which I love.
I'm also doing a modified New Atkins. I agree that ,for me, it's imperative that I reduce my carbs, refined wheat and sugar.

I know for me, personally, I have to count points. All calories are not created equal, and using points steers me toward healthier choices (in terms of fiber, protein, etc.)
ETA: or you could do Simply Filling, or Core, or whatever they're calling it now. That's not counting points OR counting calories... just eating healthy choices.
ETA2: plus, I would never want to do all the math related to counting calories...

I lost successfully on WW but have switched to counting calories and using MFP now because I was getting bored of WW and converting to points. Plus the UK app doesn't have as many features as MFP so was bugging me! I'm much more likely to stick with something easy to use so that sealed the deal!

Calories and a tablet and pen. Write everything down and weigh at the same time each morning. This is what works for me. Diets don't work. Less calories in, more energy burned loses weight. It really is that simple.

Neither. Counting carbs is the only thing that's ever worked for me. I don't worry about the calories, and I never lost weight on WWs. But everybody's body works differently. Good luck with whichever plan you choose .

If your only goal is to lose fat, you will do that on any programme that has you eating fewer calories than you burn. You just need to find one that you can stick to.
Personally, I'm not going to stick with anything that has me drastically limiting the foods that I love. I follow iifym (If it Fits Your Macros) and track it on My Fitness Pal. I have a set number of grams of protein and fibre that I hit every day and fill the rest of my calories with whatever combination of fat and carbs that I feel like. Nothing is off limits as long as it fits into those parameters.

Husband and I are doing the Advocare challenge. The first part of it is a cleanse part. During the cleanse you eat mostly fruits veggies and proteins. You have a schedule of when to eat what. The second part is the max phase and you add in some complex carbs. But you still have the same eating schedule. It has been good for us because we have had to change our eating habits. we will be starting our 2nd full challenge in the next couple days. We stayed on the max phase for a few weeks after our 24 day challenge was up.
I made a 31 day dinner plan. It is great every 5 days we get a fun day.
I start on the 1st day the first of every month. I did every 5 days for a fun meal it doesn't have to be a full on cheat it can just be that we add something fun to the meal we are eating like cheese or bread.

I have done way better with points. I am down nearly 40# since January 22nd. Do what works for you though!

For me, counting points is easier. However when WW isn't working well, using my fitness pal has helped because of the pie chart that shows % of carbs, protein, fat. I have a tenancy to spend all my points on carbs because they are my favourite, then I end up hungry and not losing weight. Its just a continual work in progress isn't it?

Calories is much easier for me. No need to convert to points. I also pay attention, as best I can, to the nutritional breakdown on MyFitnessPal, esp the fat and sugar totals.

counting points and the accountability that comes with WW is what works for me (along with being mentally ready to actually do something!).
