There has to be a catch.

Not really sure about the catch, but from my research they seem to be one of the feW if not the only one that still does unlimited data. So far they haven't made me give up my 12 year old family share plan with unlimited data. We have all upgraded our phones several times too. My latest phone only cost me .96 at Sams club. It is a Galaxy S4. Three of the five of us have them.
We have been very satisfied with Sprint. We initially went with them because they were the only company at the time that had a BlackBerry without a camera. DH could not have a camera on his phone for work. Now he just can't have a phone at all at work. If they want him to carry a phone they issue him a flip phone. We just stayed with them and they have been good.

Not sure about the catch (I'm sure there is one) but verify the coverage for your area. We have Verizon but I know that AT&T and Tmobile are both fine here, but anyone with Sprint can't ever use their phone in our town (admittedly a small town in the middle of nowhere).

I had Sprint for years before switching to AT&T (when you could only get the iPhone through them) - but I just switched to Spring using this deal. There really seems to be no catch. I had a bill of about $65 through AT&T (thanks to a generous 28% discount because of the company I work for) - I brought my bill in and they really did cut it in half including factoring in that discount I received before.
The only thing I don't like about the deal is that I had to finance the phone vs just paying for it all up front (which AT&T allowed) so that along with their insurance (they don't allow you to get the Apple Care) ended up having my bill be about the same as I was paying before. But when I pay for the phone over the 24 months it will drop.
I like the unlimited data and minutes (though I had unlimited data with AT&T) - I do not like that Sprint won't allow you to search the internet on your phone while connected on a voice call.

The catch is that sprint sucks. Really. We had them, it was "ok" and then we had a terrible storm (2 storms back to back with hurricane level winds). After that the phones barely worked. No one seemed to want to fix the problem so we left.

Cost me a fortune but I couldn't go through years with awlful service. Don't do it.

We had lousy coverage in the Minneapolis area with Sprint. I'd drop calls, even in my own home. When they were doing an "upgrade" last summer, I could NOT make a cell call in my own home. That meant I could not call my parents or my son/DIL, since I don't carry long distance on my land line.
I did like the unlimited data, but we switched to AT&T.

I agree, the service is terrible. Even though there is a tower 2 miles away from my home, I got spotty coverage in the house, and would often drop calls while driving. I have switched to Verizon and coverage is superb. I will never ever go back to Sprint.

The catch is that their service coverage sucks. Verizon is the only cell phone provider that has coverage in dh's work town. Everyone else suffers from dropped calls to no service at all.

we have sprint. I agree with the others, the trade-off is in service/coverage. my cell regularly drops calls in my home, it's to the point that if I see a call come in, I will call them back on mu landline. it almost never drops a call when I am out and about, and I can always get internet, tho it does seem to be slower than my Verizon friends'.

We moved to Sprint from Verizon in January and saved about $50. But in rural areas coverage is crappy and I never had that problem with Verizon.

Service area. We had them for over 10 years and couldn't make calls inside the house. They sent us a booster and promised a new tower was coming. We gave them 2 years. .... Still no new tower. Verizon customer now and couldn't be happier.

Yeah, service sucks. My ex had Sprint at one time - I've always had Verizon - and he had to stand in the corner of our bedroom or out in the driveway to make or receive a call.

This is our situation as well. We live in Louisiana. I have a Galaxy S6 & use the Wi-Fi Calling feature when I'm at home because reliable service ends about 2 blocks from my house. Before we moved we lived in Raleigh and coverage was great.

Service / coverage not as good.
You have to buy a new phone at full price, not the discounted rate you normally get when you start a new contract and you have to turn in your previous carrier's phone and you get no credit for it.
If I upgrade right now with my current Verizon plan I can get a new phone for a couple hundred dollars and get about the same in trading in my current phone. If I switched to sprint I would have to pay full price for a new phone and would not get the credit. That's about $500-$600 difference not in my favor, in the coverage area is not as good.
It also does not Count towards taxes and fees
So it is not something I would consider although my best friend has Sprint and is very happy with her service and her bill is about half mine.

Where we are currently, the catch is that service and coverage are beyond craptastic. The only place I've ever not had a problem with Sprint coverage was years and years ago in Houston. But within 50 miles out of town, service was abysmal. Every other place I've lived, Sprint's coverage has been completely unreliable. I think all carriers suck in one way or another. All you can do is find the least of the evils, depending on your needs and location. In my book, they're all a short step under cable TV companies in the hierarchy of evil

I was a Sprint customer for nearly ten years while living in KC - their corporate HQ. So coverage was a-okay. Since moving west we have had nothing but problems - in our own home I am roaming. I have had my data-roaming shut off because I exceed the limit - within my own home. We will be going elsewhere when the contract is up in August.

We got a Sprint phone for my teenage daughter. She was in downtown Columbus trying to call us to pick her up. In the midst of all those buildings, there was absolutely no service! All of her friends had gone and she was stuck with no way to call us to let us know that she was ready to come home! I was so angry, that we got her a new phone immediately!

We haven't had any problems with their coverage (central Maryland - DC to Baltimore) but I don't know where they get the "cut your bill in half" part. Our bill is only a little cheaper than when we had Verizon.
