I have a ton of Lia Sophia as I had a fabulous representative, plus I really liked a lot of their jewelry and the price was decent. It was quite a shock to my rep when Lia Sophia closed up like it did. She was really professional about it, but moved on and is now selling for another jewelry co (which sadly, I don't like nearly as much). I am blown away, though, when I received an email from Lia Sophia. Have to say I would certainly not support a company that pulls something like this. As a former SU demo, I can appreciate how the business model may suck for them over time, although still, not having a brick and mortar front has to make it feasible to do something to stay solvent?? I suspect their problem would have more to do with their overly generous return/exchange policy. And if they couldn't stay solvent, at least wind down in a respectable manner and don't come back! Dear Valued lia sophia Customer, Since 1971, lia sophia has been providing women high quality, superbly designed, fashion jewelry at great values. A celebrity favorite, lia sophia jewelry has been equally appealing to stylish women of all ages. Until December of 2014, our jewelry was exclusively available to consumers through lia sophia’s amazing independent sales representatives, whom we want to thank for their leadership. However, due to the challenges of our business model, we sadly and reluctantly decided to cease operations and set up our first direct to consumer ecommerce website to sell our excess inventory at www.shopliasophia.com. To our pleasant surprise, the demand for lia sophia jewelry has been so strong and our customers’ response so positive that we have decided to continue to sell all of the available inventory we have, and begin to explore other business models. We want to take this moment to express our gratitude for your interest in lia sophia, and we will continue to keep you posted.

They closed in Canada late last year. There were consultants with orders sent in who never got them. It was all every sudden. I had stuff I had wanted to return but didn't have the stupid blue slip or knew which consultant I bought from. So much for the lifetime warranty. Many have jumped on the Tocara bandwagon around here. I'm done with over priced home parties and ones that make you return to the consultant you bought from.

Maybe I'm missing something. I was a Lia Sophia customer and I would understand if they decided to sell online only.

I will add that it is frustrating to have purchased overpriced jewelry with the promise of a lifetime guarantee and now not to have that available. I wonder if they do ecommerce only if they will still honor the lifetime guarantees for items sold by consultants?

I have zero interest in any company that I have to go through a consultant to order their products. Thank god the home parties have basically finally died off around here. I used to get invited to at least once a week back in the day. I want to be able to walk into a store or order from my computer 24/7.

The quick ceasing of their operations was just so odd - do you suppose it was so us as customers would not have had time to return a lot more? I never did return anything but I have friends who did regularly. And I certainly have a number of pieces that wore our pretty quickly but none of them were my favorites.
It will be interesting to see what they propose for a return policy - can't imagine they would honor lifetime guarantees for what was formerly purchased through consultants, as that had to be what was getting them in trouble.
I have no problem supporting direct sales companies if it is a product I like and need. And I enjoy attending an occasional home party, although I'm certainly glad to see fewer of them in our area, too. For example, I regularly order Tastefully Simple, SU and CTMH. There is no way I would order Lia Sophia again based on what they pulled.

Hmm I have a few older pieces, I like and never dealt with their return policy. I'm sorry if any reps got burned. Brick and mortar employees get laid off too, when chains, or malls close.
MLM reps often have awfully high expectations for jobs that are shaky from the start. I apologize for painting with a broad brush, maybe I'm cranky.
ETA the only MLM rwturn I've tried was Pampered Chef. My rep said she didn't know what to do and I was stuck. I've been skeptical of return promises since.

I also hate the home based parties, and never go. The upside is that so much of it turns up at yard sales, at a fraction of the price. Women who felt obligated to purchase stuff they didn't want. I just bought a Pampered Chef tart shaper (new in the package) at a rummage sale for fifty cents.

Lia Sophia company knew they were dissolving consultants as of Dec 1st; however, they still accepted new consultants to sign up as late as Thanksgiving. Do you think those new consultants received a refund on the amount that they paid to join (for about a week or less)? No!
Dec 1 Lia Sophia's FB posts strongly stated that they were closing by the end of Dec. "Order items for Christmas", until Christmas actually arrived. Orders were charged immediately (early Dec); however, continually delayed well past Christmas. So much for "order for the holidays", unless LS intended the items to be received by Dec. 2015. Orders were charged for the full amounts, but many orders had items missing. No refunds issued. Some customers received partial refunds, but no refund on the shipping or taxed amount.
As Christmas passed LS posted on Fb that they would remain open until the end of February to allow customer inquiries to be answered & resolved. Initially all refunds were going to be issued by the end of Jan. Well, that timeline passed & the deadline of Feb 28th was given. Fast forward to now, customers & advisors who sent inquiries late Nov & Dec are still waiting for responses. After 5+ months I think it's likely to say "they're screwed". Lia Sophia's phone system was disconnected Dec. 18th.
Lia Sophia's FB is filled with complaints! Many posts get deleted, several posters have been banned for stating their dissatisfaction.
There are too many companies offering inexpensive costume jewelry along with return policies. I won't ever spend a dime w/LS!
The lifetime guarantee ended Dec. 28th. When you read the current LS link it states "all sales final".

Overpriced costume jewelry, but I had fun with the endless ring of LS parties me and several of my co-workers had and I liked lots of their stuff. The quality was the same as Claire's. I never even bothered to try and return anything. Not sure if I'd want to buy anything from them ever again because of the shady way they ended things.
