If you have a teenage son and you told him to go outside and call his father inside the house or just call him for anything, from one part of the house to the other, would he say,
"Hey Dad, mama wants you."
"Hey Daddy, mama wants you."
"Daddy" is a juvenile term but I think it is one that is used more often in the south even by teenagers. I think teenage girls wouldn't think twice about saying, "Hey Daddy, mama wants you," but what about Southern boys. I'm from the south and my boys are grown but I swear I remember them as teenagers, calling out , "Hey Daddy, mama wants you."

My husband is 55 years old and still calls his (now deceased) dad, daddy.

My dad still calls his father daddy and dad is 76
(his dad is deceased but when referring to him)
Mom also calls her dad (deceased also) daddy.

But he isn't from the south and I don't think he would have liked it at all. My mother still calls her dad, daddy. I am mama, but sometimes mommy. Rarely Mother (and most often spoken with that snide tone that only teens can do.) I prefer Queen, Ruler of all Things, but they won't get on board with that. |

Daddy is more common in the south. It would not register with me either way a boy said it. My husband's uncles still refer to their late father as Daddy. Or Boots.

I'm in Atlanta. I call(ed) my dad dad and my kids call their dad dad as well. Kids call me mom. There's no mama or daddy going on around here!

So daddy would sound fine to me, but I rarely hear anybody refer to their mom as mama.

He calls my husband Dada.
I still call my dad Daddy.

I refer to my Father as Daddy. Have done so all my life. I wish the greeting card companies would make cards for adults who use the term Daddy.

I'm not sure how it happened, but my kids refer to him as "Father." I think it started sort of as a joke, but caught on. Other times I'll hear "Dad."

I live in the south. It still surprises me when I hear older kids calling either one of their parents Mommy or Daddy. I hear it pretty much all the time with the girls, but every so often with the boys.

My kids both use Mama and Daddy. I still call my Dad Daddy, but my brother calls him Dad. I'm not to sure about my sister, I think she uses both.

Born and raised in the south and I stopped saying "daddy" when I was about 12/13 ish.
I don't know any guys from home that say "Daddy" they all say Dad.

My dad is 78 and he still refers to his (now deceased) dad as daddy. We grandkids called him granddaddy. I miss him.  I'm 42 and call my dad, daddy. My brothers call him dad. |

I am from the south and most teen boys use "mom" and "dad" but as they get older, it seems they revert back to mama and daddy.
Most grown men I know, call their father's "daddy".

We are in NC, my youngest calls him daddy, my 16 year old calls him daddy & my 18 year old and 21 year old call him dad. The oldest two will call him daddy if they want/need something.
Me I'm mom, or the mean one. Ha...if they only knew:).

Not from the south so I know this doesn't apply to me but I don't know anyone- girls or boys that say daddy or mama. It's mommy and daddy when young and then just mom and dad.

I'm 67 and my 91 year old father is still "Daddy." He would probably wonder what was wrong with me if a called him anything else.

My Dad, who is from California (with California born parents), refers to his parents as Mom and Daddy.
My Mom, who is from California (but from Texas-born parents), refers to her parents as Mother and Daddy.

I've always called my dad Daddy. My brothers have always called him Dad.
DH is dad and I'm mama to our kids. But DD will lapse into daddy and mommy when she's weasle something out of us. Lol!

Everybody I know calls their father - daddy. I don't know if I have ever heard anyone use dad. Pretty similar with mama and mom. I in my 30's and in Georgia.

I think the differences around the country, and the world are interesting. I was born in CT and mostly raised in NH, and call my parents Mom & Dad, so does my older brother. To me, teens and adults, especially men calling their fathers Daddy is really strange sounding. My husband was born in GA, but was an AF brat, spending a lot of time in San Antonio and calls his Mom & Charlie (stepdad who raised him since he was a toddler), and Dad for his "real Dad". My MIL who was born & raised in or around Warner Robins, GA called her parents Mama & Daddy.
