It's been 5 years since placement, so I need a new one. I have not checked my strings, but I think it's there because my periods have been light or non-existent and I've had heavy periods because of fibroids. During the placement, I was a little queasy, (I guess that I went pale), so the doc did an ultrasound to make sure it was in the correct place (not sure if that is common). Just a little anxious about this. I went through IVF, so have had many procedures done and my hoo-ha looked at, but this procedure has me anxious. I also would like to have it done in an hour and half (max) as I would like to get my DS to gymnastics on time. Anyone have experience with removal and new insertion? TIA

Yes, and I'm sorry to say it hurt like a motherf*cker!! And I took an Advil beforehand. Seriously, I almost fainted from the pain. Sorry... I'm sure that isn't everyone's experience but it was mine.

Yes, for some reason I think this... and the receptionist saying it will only take a half hour.... I am skeptical.

Don't be skeptical- it'll take less than a half hour! Removal is very easy. You will not even feel it, and it takes literally seconds. Insertion isn't fun, as you know, but it's quick.
I'm on my third Mirena, so you can probably guess that I think it's worth it! This past time (I think it was late August) the doctor made me schedule a follow-up ultrasound a few weeks later to check positioning. I had never had that before, they said that they had noted increased incidence of expulsion when they did removal and insertion in the same day. It was not a problem for me.

I'm also on my third Mirena. I only felt slight discomfort each time. Please try not to worry. Feeling stressed will only make it worse.

I am on my third also. Changed OBGYN's for #3. The first one was a walk in the park, because I had just had a baby. Second hurt and took a LONG time to get in. Third was done a week ago and I am still in pain. It took maybe three minutes to get in and I have a bent uterus. I swear she used a 12 inch razor blade to put it in. OUCH! There was blood everywhere. #3 gave me rules no sex for 2 weeks and come back to ck it in 3 weeks. I didn't have rules and didn't have to come back with the other 2.
I keep telling myself it will be worth it to not have a period. I have medical issues that make it so I can't be on the pill. So I don't have many options. And I can't leave birth control up to DH. That's how I ended up with 3 kids not 2.

I'm on my second one and other than a pinch and a cramo, insertion was pretty easy.
If I recall, they did make me go back two weeks or so later to check on it. I had to pay for that visit, but not the insertion one.

I did have a little trouble last time because after the removal (which was just a quick "ouch") my cervix decided that was enough discomfort for one day and shut up shop. Insertion of the new one wasn't possible and although the doc gently tried for a few minutes it wasn't happening and that wasn't particularly pleasant. In the end I had to go back for a separate appt the next day BUT that's the only time I've had a problem and I've had Mirenas for over 20 years. Every other time it's been nothing more than slight discomfort and it certainly didn't take an hour and a half! Good luck

I'm on my second one. I didn't have any issues or undue pain with either insertion or the one removal.

I took ibuprofen before my insertion and had a pinch and a cramp and it was over in less than 10 minutes. Removal was like a pap smear and tampon removal. No big deal. Good luck
