I am last-minute planning a girl's trip to DC for mid-June with a good friend from college. I have traveled a lot, she has not. I lived in Northern Virginia when I was in elementary school, but it's been a good 18 years :-). I'm thinking we'll probably do a hop-on/off bus tour, then one day of monuments and one day of the spy museum and newseum. Any suggestions of hotels to look into?

What about Rosslyn? The Metro is right there, Blue and Orange lines. Also in the evening you could walk over to the Iwo Jima, or into Georgetown.

We stayed at L'Enfant" in the downtown area. The hotel is "on top" of a major metro station (take a hotel elevator down to the metro area - a retail area and the station), just several blocks off the Mall but not in an area particularly good for "night life" or restaurants.
