Does anyone have a Masterbuilt Smoker? Do you like it?
What are the + & - about owning one? I'm looking for a Father's Day gift!

I bought this one for my DH two years ago for a Christmas present. He had an electric smoker on his list and through my research online and the nice man at Cabela's who saw the clueless look in my eyes when I walked in, I walked out with this one. I cannot say enough good things about it. It's sturdy, it works great, it doesn't take a ton of chips, super easy to clean. DH loves it and says I picked out a better one than he was eyeballing! Diane....that's my problem...I'm clueless!
Did you get the stand too? Where do you store it? Can it stay outside or is it something that has to be brought in when not in use.

My BF has one like the one linked by khaleesi. It stays outside on the deck year-round. It works well, and looks fairly simple to use.

Happy to see this thread! I know nothing about them. My neighborhood store sells the Green Egg. It's so expensive, even DH has said don't surprise me with it.
Can you store an electric one on covered patio?

We've had ours for 9 months or so. DH loves it- we smoke a bunch of meat and veggies at one time, eat some of each, then freeze the rest. We can get the chips at walmart, or many other places here. Ours is electric, so DH plugs it in in the sun porch and either has it sitting on the deck outside (if it's not too cold), or sitting in the doorway of the sun porch (with the porch door open) if it's cold, so the smoke goes outside and doesn't get in the house. We did our Thanksgiving turkey like that last year and it only took about two two hours to fully cook- and it was a big turkey! The masterbuilt website has a lot of good recipes, and I've pinned a couple other sites with good stuff, too. I also found a book from the library that had a lot of good recipes. khaleesi- DH got his at Cabela's, too (same model)- the guy was very informative and helpful. CeeScraps- I can't think of any cons. Be sure to talk to someone who knows smokers who can give good advice and not just try to sell you the most expensive one. DH had been looking online for a while and went in to Cabela's to see what they had in person. anonrefugee- I think it depends on where you live and how covered the patio is. We keep ours in an enclosed sun porch, so it's protected from the elements, but it gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter in there. We live in CO, so the only thing we keep outside year-round is our gas grill. Since the smoker is electric, we wouldn't want to keep it outside.

We had one and didn't love it, so we returned it. It took a really long time for things to cook and make a lot of mess (outside the smoker) with greasy meat.

We did not get the stand as this is tall enough to stand on its own without feeling like you are on the ground using it. We store it in the garage once it is cooled off and not going to be used. I would think you could also put a grill type cover over it if you did not have indoor storage.
