Update So the manager called and just kept saying the same thing. Sorry you have to either ship it back or we can sell you a new vacuum for a reduced price. I told him I wasn't willing to spend any money on this vacuum since it was less than 4 months old. What I find shocking is the $20 is for return shipping, I have to take it to USPS and ship to them also. Online some have reported that being $50 plus dollars. No way am I doing that. Basically the warranty on this vacuum is pretty useless. I will be boxing up and returning for store credit. I will not be purchasing another Shark because their customer service is awful.
Original post
I bought a Shark Navigator at the end of February. It's Power Brush Roller stopped working in the end of May. I called Shark and they sent me a new brush roller. The new roller did not work either. I called them back and they suggested I take the whole thig back to Walmart where I bought it. Walmart will not take it back because it's outside of their 90 day return policy. Now Shark either wants me to buy a new vacuum from them at a reduced price (not sure how much) or pay $20 to ship the vacuum to them to have them fix it. I wouldn't get the vacuum back for a month or so. I don't like either option! This is a not even 4 month old vacuum. I'm currently waiting on a manager to call me because I told them I was unwilling to spend any money on the fixing a vacuum that never should have broken after only 4 months. What do you think?

I thought walmart would take it back as long as they still sold iT? I thought there was a thread here about that.
I'd be pissed. Are you sure the roller replacement thing was attached correctly?

Not sure if it is fair/right but in the past when I needed to repair something that broke under warranty, I did have to pay shipping to return it to their repair centre. So, while I didn't like it, I sucked up the $11 and sent my printer off for repair.

I would have no problem paying shipping on a year old vacuum, but not 4 months. Walmart has recently toughened up their return policy to 90 days. I called them first to confirm.

I have no advice but a friend had the same issues with her laptop. She filed a small claims suits against the laptop manufacturer and two days later, someone from the company offered to replace it with a better model and longer warranty. She will get the new laptop once she drops the suit. Filing the suit was the only way to get the manufacturers attention. my point is I hate it when companies don't stand behind their products and the consumer has to jump through hoops to get the matter resolved.

I will preface this by saying I own two Shark Navigators and the larger, more powerful one is going on six years. In a house with four cats I feel I've definitely got my money's worth.
Is your Shark out of warranty? Unless you can prove there is a manufacturing defect, I don't know that there's much you can do. Yes, we would like appliances to last more than 4 months, but if it's no longer covered, the manufacturer has no legal obligation to repair at their cost, or replace, the vacuum.
Do they have a FB, or other social media, presence that you can post on? Negative feedback can often get the ball rolling.
Good Luck!

Have you tried returning it to WM without the receipt so they don't see the date?
You'll get a store credit, then use the credit to buy a new vacuum.

My problem is having to pay $20 to ship and then being without a vacuum for another month. I'm hoping they will either offer prepaid shipping, a local place that does repairs, or send me a new vacuum and I can ship the old one back to them at their cost. I know it's just $20, but I just don't feel like I should have to pay anything on a 4 month vacuum.

Shark will be the one to pay for it, as they should. I wouldn't be willing to invest any more time in the situation when there is an easy solution that will result in a fair resolution without me doing more work.

This is the exact reason why I try to buy stuff like that at Costco whenever possible. They are so great about taking stuff back.

You may feel like this idea is just as dishonest, but you could pay $20 to ship it to get fixed, buy one from Walmart to use in the meantime, then return it when you get your Shark back.

I have the box and will box it up and take it in if Shark doesn't have a good solution. The manager should be returning my call in an hour or so.

Yes, this. DH owned a hardware store and most if not all of that kind of thing can be sent back as defective for full credit to the store. He would tell people to come in with the defective one, get a new one off the shelf and he'd put the bad one in the new box and return it to the manufacturer for credit. In the situation described, with something that is still well under warranty but that the store won't take back because they have a ridiculous return policy, I would buy a new one, put the defective one in the new box and return it with the new receipt I just got. If the thing is still under warranty and it's defective, I really don't see it as being dishonest. You get a new vacuum right away without paying the shipping or having to wait to get your defective one fixed.

I had to ship something back to Canon on my dime. It was still under warranty too. It sucks but sometimes you got to do it if you want the issue fixed at all.

The only bad thing about returning anything these days without a receipt is that if the thing has been on sale at ANY time within the last six months to a year, they will only credit you back the lowest sale price it has EVER been sold for during that time, and that sucks. Especially if you paid more than that for it. I can't stand it when companies won't stand behind their products and leave you to twist in the wind like that.

Sorry this situation has sucked so hard for you. (HA! See what I did there? SUCKED so hard?!? In a post about vacuums?!?!? Thank you, thank you, I;ll be here all week, please tip your servers.)
As a side note- we got a Shark a few years ago and it was a piece of junk. Our latest vacuum is a Miele and I LOVE it. It's pricey, but very high quality. Bed Bath and Beyond sells them now.
A vacuum repairman did an AMA on Reddit a few years ago that was sooooooo interesting and informative. You should look it up if you want the inside scoop on vacuums.

You could buy a new one at Walmart and return the defective one with the new receipt.

I suggest you go and leave a comment on their Facebook page about the lack of customer service on such a new vacuum. Their page is under Shark Cleaning. They also have a Twitter account if you use that. I had a friend who had to resort to that for another product and she finally got her problem solved. I did that right after I got off the phone with the CS manager. They deleted my Facebook post about 2 minutes after I posted and haven't responded to my tweet. Found my facebook post, but it's a little hidden. No one has answered it though.
