Do you have an app that you use for this? There are so many out there I figured I'd ask the Refugees. So, any recommendations or even ones to stay away from. TIA!

I use the Groundspeak geocaching app. I started with the free one, but ended up getting the paid one. I can't speak for other apps, but this one is well supported and works in conjunction with the huge community on the geocaching website.

Mine just says "geocaching". I know it was like 9.99 in the App Store , but it's been way worth it. The kids love it and were just asking to go again last night!

Thanks ladies! I'll check into both of these. I went to the geocaching site. I see they have one there to download and then there is also a "premium" one too.

All of my 900 finds are on an iPhone using the official geocaching app by ground speak.

We use C:geo and its free but its connected to geocaching.com
Its free to join but if you want more caches you have to pay $30 per year. I have used it 2 years without needing to pay since there are so many free ones.

My boyfriend geocaches and I believe his is the one from the geocaching website as well. He paid $10 for it and gets the premium ones.

I've only done it 4 times so I used the c:geo free app. If I planned to do it more regularly I'd pay for the groundspeak app, but since my dog died I don't find myself wanting to explore on my own Maybe try that free one and see if you enjoy it? I miss having Gracie give me a good excuse to go poking around in odd places

We use the groundspeak one as well and most caches we can find using our iPhones. For ones that are hidden well in the woods, we use our Garmin hand held gps

I just went for the first time this weekend. I found the first cache. The next two, four of us couldn't find. I don't know what app my niece used.

My daughter introduced us to this this past weekend. One of our finds was in the middle of a parking lot on an island. It felt kinda awkward looking at the trees etc with people driving by us wondering what we were up to (I know I would be if I was the one in the car). I just used the free one you can download on your iphone.
I will definitely do it again but it kinda bums you out when you can't find it's location when someone posted that they did just the day before

we use the groundspeak one but it really sucks down your phone's battery if you use the app to live-guide you to the cache!!!!! we ended up buying geocaching hand-held GPSs, but I have to admit, I like the app on my iphone better, and think it's easier to use!

kkooch-keep at it. DH has over 2,000 finds and we still run across ones we can't find that others did and vice versa. Try to look for larger ones at first and then you can look for micros. The geocaching site ranks them in size.

We use the app from Groundspeak as well as our hand held Garmin. If we are "urban caching" we can usually get by with the app. If we are "country caching" we use the Garmin.

Thanks luvnlifelady. I never thought to look by size first. We just looked for what we were near. I think it's so cool that they are pretty much anywhere you go. Definitely need to get in the habit to open the program any time we go somewhere. A great added bonus to any trip!

If you are not already, it can be helpful to look at the log and notes posted by others who found or attempted to find the cache. I have been able to get hints for those harder to find before.
