Well it makes noise, but doesn't do anything else. So now I need a new one.
What do you have? Do you love it or hate it? I want a top loader because I like to start it and then add stuff if I find it. DH doesn't really want an agitator, but it isn't a deal breaker.

I'm nearly in the same boat. My washer has been on its last legs for years now. My handyman guy has brought the washer and dryer back from the brink several times for about $40 a pop. So I've been looking at washers, too. Also not interested in a front loader. But I believe the nicer top-loaders no longer have an agitator. So you may be able to please both of yourselves at the same time.

I have a stinky LG front loader I'll pay you to take. I want a new washer, but I'm too cheap to buy a new one when the old one still works.

I just asked this question a few weeks ago. I bought a top loading Kenmore Series 500 for just a little under $500.

We just replaced the 35 year old washer in my in-law's home - it was amazing!! We got a Whirlpool Cabrio platinum (this was late last year). LOVE this washer! Quiet, works so well and uses water very efficiently and can handle large loads.
We didn't replace the dryer as it had been replaced just a few years ago but now I wish we'd gotten the dryer to match as it handles smaller loads than does the washer. But it's still working well.
Ours is a top loader.

Overall I really like it but there are a few things I don't like about it. With my old one, I would add the detergent to the washer as it was filling up, when it was about 1/2 full I'd add the clothes. Now, it is locked before the water will start to fill. I do like that the spin cycle takes most of the water out of the clothes so that drying time is much less than it used to be.

We bought a Kenmore washer and dryer 2 years ago. The washer is a HE top loader with no agitator. When you turn it on it locks the lid so if you want to add stuff you have to hold down the start button to lock the lid. I like it.

LOVE the enormous capacity and that there is no agitator. And it's true, the spin cycle gets rid of so much more water than my drying time is def. reduced. Very happy with this purchase so far! Mine was around $850.

Make sure you measure the depth of your space. The big top loaders I want are too deep for the space I have.

I told my husband just earlier today that when our Maytag kicks the bucket this is the brand we're placing it with.

Ugh, ours just died yesterday. It's a fancy cinnamon-colored Whirlpool, with matching dryer maybe 10 years old, and we've already had it repaired once. I'll probably bite the bullet and have it repaired again, but I am very disappointed in the quality. That's what I get for buying the one I thought was pretty.

Another vote for speed queen. They are awesome and made to last 15+ years. Warranty is 3x longer than anything else on the market. Controls are mechanical, not electric. They won't sing you a song or look pretty, but they will get your clothes clean in a timely manner, run strong, and be easy to repair/maintain down the road. It is a cult following for a good reason. Ignore Consumer Reports, it is the lack of eco-friendly (not low water) that gets them poor marks.

We got the Maytag Bravos washer and dryer about 4 years ago. Our washer hasn't been draining out properly for a while now. I haven't had the time or $$ to get a repairman here to just look at it. DD and DH looked it up on YouTube and tried to fix it, but it's beyond their capabilities. Wondering if it's something little/stupid broken or it's a goner. It stinks having to squeeze each load of laundry before putting it in the dryer. I'm probably wasting so much $$ on more electricity for the dryer!
Do any Peas know where to find a reasonable repairman just to look at it?? I don't even know where to start!

Do any Peas know where to find a reasonable repairman just to look at it?? I don't even know where to start! I've used Sears repair service even though we purchased the washer from Lowes. I would give it a good review, even though the problem has now recurred. I think that's due to the poor design of the washer, not the quality of repair.

We bought a top loader Samsung 4.8 C.u. 3 weeks and I love it. I absolutely hated our previous washer which was a top loader GE. I'm extremely happy with our purchase and glad we went with a Samsung Washer.

Hoping they don't charge a huge amount just to come out and check it. I know it'll go towards any repair or part, but, still, that's what's been holding me back. Ugh.

I have the Maytag Bravos. It's a top loader without an agitator that I've had for over 4 years with no problems at all.

I have a front loader and can't stand it. The clothes just don't smell clean like they did with my top loader. And I clean the front loader regularly and hardly ever cleaned the top loader.

We have a Whirlpool Duet front loader. I'm pretty happy with it (well, to the extent that a washing machine can make me happy ).
