I dropped off DS at camp yesterday. He's been going off to camp for the last 4 years, but for some reason I am kinda sad about it. The funny thing is that he has been going to camp 6 hours away, but this year he wanted a different camp, so he's only an hour away. Not sure why this year has hit me so hard. I think it's probably because he'll be with his dad for the whole month of July, so I won't be seeing him much. I miss my kid!!! Anyone else have an empty house right now?

Nope, dds camps are 2 and 3 weeks away still. They will be about 9 hours from home and it will be younger dd's first camp away so I will be nervous (won't let her know that) for the first few days - until I know she has adjusted.
She has been away before, just got back from a school trip to NYC, but it will be the first time where she isn't with her sister or a friend.

Our camp isn't until the first week of August. It will be our sixth year in a row at one Camp Quest or another. My big kid has aged out and he's working so he isn't going this year as a camper or a counselor. He wants to work as a counselor next summer, maybe even at multiple camps since they are all over the country and don't happen at the same time. My younger son is looking forward mostly to the waterslide and the rock climbing wall. It's such a fun time for them and it's a nice break for us.

It's such a fun time for them and it's a nice break for us. I'm sure I'll get over it pretty quick This is a new camp for him, so I'm always nervous about him meeting new friends. He's never met a stranger, so i'm definitely worried for no reason.

We sent off all 4 kids yesterday. My youngest is 8 and it's his first time. It was a somewhat sad 2 hour drive home but they were all so excited, so we're happy. DH and I have never been kid-free, other than a few hours, for the last 15 years (I homeschool them). The house feels really quiet now, but it's a peaceful feeling. :-)

My youngest went to band camp yesterday. It is only 4 nights, and the camp is at a university about 30 minutes from here, but I am always nervous for my campers just because I know how hard it can be socially. I did get a [less than expansive] text from her this AM letting me know which band she was placed in.

Only one of them does camp (counsellor) but it's not until August 28. The kids will be travelling for most of the summer.

Mine is little enough that we are still just doing day camps, but she's at cheer camp all week this week and then for the first time ever she'll be at Camp Grandma for 4 days over the holiday weekend. I am staying here to take care of my parents and my DH is doing his first professional fireworks show as a technician!

My daughter only does say camps but has already done 2 week of camp with 2 weeks off. Hearing all the August start dates is off for me to hear since our first day of school is August 3rd.

I love having the kids around, so we have never done camp. But they haven't ever asked either! I don't think it's big in our area, I don't know any of their friends that go to camp. I do wish my teens had part time jobs though! They are expensive and it would be nice if they had their own money to spend.

That seems so early. Did your kids get out of school early May? Our summer break is June 5th-Aug. 26th (which seems early to me). I like when we used to start after Labor Day or at least Sept. 1st.

My DS has a fishing camp in a couple of weeks that is 6 hours away and another that is more traditional the following week that is about 4 hours away. He has been going to these 2 camps for 4 years and next year will be a CIT. He loves camp.

DD is doing a mini-session at girl scout camp at the end of July. She's going to be doing horseback riding every day, and she's so excited

Dd (12) went to an Autism Day Camp at the end of June. She isn't quite ready yet for a sleep away camp. Ds (9) is attending ESY (extended school yewr for sdc kids) until mid July. So dh and I get a small break

My daughter goes on Thursday to Rock Band camp in Chicago. She's spending a few days with grandma/aunts/uncles before and after and will be gone for three weeks. She has vocal camp later in August, but that's only a week

DS had said that he thought he wanted a break from camps this year, which was fine with us, and then he broke his arm the first day of summer vacation, so it all worked out well, since we typically signed him up for his camps early in the summer. He is still signing up for day activities here and there that he can do one handed, though.

I did....but actually as the director of a special needs camp not as a camper! LOL.... So proud that she has worked her way from a counselor to the director. Her brother will be attending in two weeks!

My youngest was a counselor at a camp for military kids 2 weeks ago. She used to be a camper at the camp, aged out and was asked to come back as a counselor.
In 2 weeks she goes to a different camp ground to do it all again for a week. The following week she starts band camp.
Band camp is local 7-7 for the 1st week for competition marching and regular marching is the next week 8-12.
School starts the following week. We start school in early August and go through the middle of May.

My daughter is on about the exact opposite as your son, (OP) Normally she goes to camp about an hour from us, if she was doing that she would have finished last Friday and then gone and spent the month of July with her Dad.
This year she wanted to go to a more focused camp. So she is in London with her Dad now, and will be with him until the 11th of July, she went on the 10th of June. She will fly to NYC on the 17th of July and my sister will take her to a voice/musical theatre camp in Princeton for two weeks.
This will be very different for her. She is going with a friend which I hope works out okay.> They are not besties, but they are in musical theatre together, so hopefully this will be a good fit for both of them. I am a bit nervous with her being on a college campus.. it will feel very different from her camp here in NC.
In the past my daughter has typically been at camp for the last three weeks in June, then home for less than 48 hours and then off for a month in Cayman with her Dad. (the year her Dad got married she was there for 6 weeks)
This year she is home for a week between her Dad and Camp. I am looking forward to that. I miss her a lot. She is missing home too. She is getting to the point where I think she would prefer to spend her time at home with friends instead of in Cayman with her Dad.

We have the opposite, longer summer break and less time during the school year (almost a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas and a 3 day weekend here and there). I love the long summer break as I love summer! Our weather can be pretty cold and rainy in the fall and cold in the winter/spring, so I prefer to be off in the summer. I have a friend in Florida and her kids schedule is similar to yours. They have beautiful weather all year, so it's like summer all the time. I joke the we don't have a "spring" break because we don't have "spring".

DS2 left this morning for 6 weeks. DD is leaving two weeks from today for 4 weeks. DS1 is staying home this summer and working as a day camp counselor. The last three years dh and I have had a little time with no kids. Kind of bummed to be missing that this summer.

I'm curious how old all your kids are. DS leaves in 2 weeks for a week at boy scout camp. He's 11 and this is his first week long camp experience. Fortunately, he'll be there with some of the other boys from his troop.

DS1 will be going to band camp the first week of August. DS2 isn't part of the marching band yet so he'll be at home. There won't be any bickering that week!
I'm actually looking forward to next year where BOTH of them will be at band camp.

Mine goes in two weeks. Hers is only one hour away and this will be her fifth year at the same camp. There was nothing like that first time I dropped her off for a week at 9 years old, neither one of us knowing a soul there. But I think sleepaway camp is a great experience - for both of us!

We don't usually do camp, other than a local basketball day camp(more of a training) for DS.
But this year he made the Ontario Basketball Assocoation Regional team for our area. So in addition to 40 evening training hours, he made the cut and is off to a 4 day camp on Monday. We are looking forward to seeing the skills he comes out of this with!
He is also off to an "Elite" skills camp (days only) the following week, and then our local training camp the week after that.
We think he will spend all of August napping to recuperate from all the basketball!
