Update 7/13/15 - We had another ultrasound and fetal monitoring this morning and nothing has changed. His heartbeat is strong and he's passing all the testing, which is AWESOME, we could even see his lungs moving today on the screen as he practiced breathing. My cervix is locked up tighter than Fort Knox, but they will be inducing me on Weds morning. I can't wait to hold my son! Here's hoping I don't break the lil peanut! Your prayers and thoughts have meant the world to both me and DH..thanks for continuing those!! *****
DH and I had a growth ultrasound for our baby due Aug 5th last month and his femur bone was measuring a few days behind, throwing him into the 15th percentile for weight. They said not to worry as everything else was right on track.
Today was the follow up and now everything is showing behind and he's now dropped into the 4th percentile. He's measuring approx 4 lbs 15oz and his growth is on par for a 33 week old baby instead of 36 weeks.
They are monitoring me and if things don't change, they will be inducing me mid-next week.
I know that God has His arms around my family and is totally in control and I'm just trying to have faith that Luke will be here soon, safe and sound and I'm thanking Him in advance for no NICU time.
Thanks for praying for us.

Lots of good thoughts. But in the meantime, keep in mind that ultrasounds are just an estimate. My last US predicted that 2nd ds would be close to 9lbs, he was 6,11. Just something to keep in mind so you don't worry yourself sick over it.

Try not to panic. Ultrasounds at 36+ weeks are notorious for being incorrect. It can be tricky to get accurate measurements when baby is all squished in there and the belly is so round. I went through the ringer with my oldest at the end and getting an accurate measurement of her amniotic fluid. It's a long story and I won't bore you with the details. Also, if there is a problem, your doctors seem to be rightly concerned, and appear to be monitoring you the way they should be. If you are concerned about them taking your son out at 36 weeks, it's ok. As far as I know 36 weeks is right when babies are considered full term and can safely be born. 2 of mine wound up being 36 weekers. There were no breathing problems at birth. Has your baby been kicking regularly? Did they listen to his heartbeat at your last checkup? If yes, take comfort in that. . It's going to be okay. . (((Hugs)))

{{Hugs}} My son was measuring small too. I went through ultrasounds and non-stress tests twice a week for 3 months. He came out at 7lbs 12oz. Try not to stress.

A baby that is not growing in utero is better off outside.
You are already 36 weeks, so he will be close to 37 weeks at birth. I'll tell you that just a few years ago, we regularly induced at 37 weeks, as that was considered full term. It still is, it's just called early term today. 36-37 weekers generally do very well.
My dd was born at 36 weeks. She was not as small as your son will likely be, but not far off. She was 5 lbs 9 oz. Induction and normal delivery. She had to stay about 12 hours longer than normal. That's all.
Preemie clothing... he will need preemie clothing for at least a short while. Wouldn't hurt to have some preemie onsies and a preemie outfit around.
This reminds me a pediatrician friend of mine. Her baby was 4 lbs 12 oz at something like 38 weeks. I have no idea how she got that far without someone picking up that the baby was SGA (small for gestational age). Funny thing was that she gave up breast feeding pretty early on. She told me it was because she thought she wasn't making enough milk. I was surprised to hear a pediatrician falling into that trap. Of course, she thought she wasn't making enough milk! That baby was nearly 8 lbs at the 2 week mark!

So sorry that this burden has been placed on your heart during what should be one of the happiest times of your life. Listen to your doctors, follow your own instincts. The Peas are all praying for little Luke and his Mommy & Daddy! I know even the ones who don't "believe", are sending good thoughts your way!

Prayers and good thoughts for baby Luke. Hope you have a safe and easy delivery and that everything is fine. My son was born at 35 weeks, was 4.5 lbs at birth, and is now a big, hulking 6'1" 19 year old.

said a prayer for you! I also googled what this could mean, and came across a forum post with 3 pages of women whose babies measured behind their dates, and they arrived fine and in good health. some were just small, some had been measured wrong, some OBs had apparently estimated the conception time at different ends of the 2 week fertility window (?). anyway, I hope one of those turns out to be your situation, and your baby is happy and healthy at whatever size they turn out to be!

Prayers for all of you.
I know that it is so very hard not to worry when the doctors keeping telling you things you'd rather not hear during ultrasounds. But try to worry less if at all possible. The worrying can drive you crazy if you let it. Hugs to you!!
