The thread listing how long we've all had our cars had me curious. Is it just a car to you or does it have sentimental value too?
If it's part of the family, does it have a name?
Our 1999 Plymouth Voyager van is definitely part of the family and we love to joke about how horrible she looks - no hub caps, the paints peeling off, the window tinting is peeling. It's really kind of pitiful. It's funny we call her a "she" but her name is Barney.
My daughter's 2001 red Honda CRV is named Gloria.
But my 10 year old Hyundai Sonata has no name.

Mine is jokingly referred to as Punky. The dealership called it purple, I called it pink. (It's actually metallic fuchsia according to Ford). And the name Punky was settled on. We use it when we are talking about which car we are taking, his or "Punky".

Cars are metal and plastic and I have to be honest, I think naming them, calling them 'she' etc is daft.

We call our 96 Landcruiser the zombie killer because it is outfitted with a roof rack, a front steel bumper, and it looks very intimidating. It is definitely a vehicle you would want in a zombie apocalypse. I used to call my old Hyundai Accent "Bean" because it was tiny and resembled a bean.

I don't usually name my cars, but my current vehicle (2006 Honda Ridgeline) was christened Ridgie by my kids and sister. I had been parking in her garage, right by the entrance from the kitchen and when you went to the garage the truck's front end was literally right there in your face with little room to maneuver around. My sister said it looked like a giant dinosaur ready to grab you... a Ridge-a-saurus. It got shortened to Ridgie as a nickname and that's that. I have had the car for 9 years and the name has stuck so hard to the car that I have personalized plates that say Ridgie.

SOme of my cars have ended up with names..others not.
The current one is Hoshi from Hoshi Sato a translator in early Star Trek. Computerized translators came after her. My car earned the name due to the blutooth function which I just knew I would never use but I use it all the time. And the variety of options I have for music.

We don't currently have names for either of our cars. but we had a 1992 ford 250 extended cab pickup we named Clyde. It was big and bad like a Clydesdale horse.
I had an old red pile of crap before we got the Cruiser and I named it SHITPILE! It was ugly when we got it but our ford ranger I was driving at the time got totaled so I had to replace it. I hated that car from day one. The drivers door didn't roll down. so you had to open the door to go through a drive through. It kept going through brakes like crazy. We had work done on it but the master cylinder was bad so we decided to get rid of it. We did give it to a friend for 1 dollar because in the state of Oregon you can not gift a car to a non family member. I know it is stupid. She was broke and needed a car because hers died and she couldn't afford to buy one for a few months. She ended up using it for a down payment on something better.
We really loved Clyde. We drove him all over the place. Took him to Utah and brought back a uhaul trailer full of furniture from husbands grandma after she passed away. we had a canopy on it and it was full the trailer was full and we had a queen mattress and box springs we tied on the top of the canopy.

Yes! My Miata is named MZDAZY. (As in Driving Ms. Daisy) She's the only one I have liked enough to name.

We got a new car in February and her name is Valentina (we got her the day before Valentine's Day). My previous car did not have a name but for some reason, I felt that this one needed a name. It is an Explorer and a couple of months after we had her, my son said we should have named her Dora. I thought that was cute. My husband has a truck and we just call it Truckie. We had a car named Hunka Junk when I was a kid.

We don't have actual names for ours, just nicknames so we know which one we are taking. Little red (Ranger), Big Blue (Expedition), Big Ass Truck (F150 4X4) and Mini me (Mini Cooper). Mine is the only "she" out of the bunch (cause I hate being the only girl, even our pets are boys, so my car is a "she").

I have never named any of my vehicles (or any boats or houses), but when my siblings & I were small, my parents would name their vehicles, or allow us to name them, because we liked it back then. Now that we're grown my parents have stopped naming them.

Mine is named Fiona because the color is Fiona from Shrek green. My DH has the same vehicle as me and his is Kiwi because it's a Kiwi color. (We didn't plan on similar colors, it just happened).

As far as sentimentality goes, my then 5 year old cried when I traded in my previous car. But he got over it pretty quickly and was telling everyone he met the next few days that we had a new car. And when my mother's first car died (And she had that thing for 14 years, she cried too.) My one sibling was little and I remember him telling her not to cry because now she had a new friend.

We don't name our vehicles - they are just "the Acadia" and "the Suburban", but I call my GPS Sabrina.
However, we call our two refrigerators Brad and Janet. We have two because we need the extra space for the supplies for the coffee shop that we have next to the motel office. Sometimes our personal stuff [like the kids' pop and juice boxes] get put into the one for the coffee shop. They used to be "the big fridge" - our personal one - and "the little fridge" - the coffee shop one - until the little fridge died and we bought a new one. The new one was bigger than the big fridge. Two or three of the DGDs were here one day soon after that and asked if they could have a drink. I said sure and they asked where they were. I said "Um, in the big one, no, I mean the new one. Oh, we should just give them names." They came up with Brad and Janet [Rocky Horror Picture Show characters].

My car is "My Little Red Wagon" because it is a little red Focus wagon.
Dd bought a car already named Peanut and has kept the name.
That's it for us, though we had a Dodge Aries named Moneypit.

My first car was called Porn Star... It was a hand-me-down from my older brother, and for the longest time there was a sticker on the back window that said "porn star" on it. I don't know why... It's not like he was one. Although he was a college student at the time, so I'm sure he did some interesting things.
My second car was named Dimples about 6 months after I bought it. It sustained some pretty serious hail damage, and although it was repaired, the name stuck.
My first brand new car, that I just bought in March, is named Betty... as in Betty White. Because it's white and it's pretty!

My first car that I bought on my own was a Geo Metro. My dad's friend commented that the engine sounded less like turbo and more like turbie. So it's name became Turbie.
My current van is the Family Truckster.

We named our first car which we bought four weeks before our wedding in 1990. My DH had just passed his test two weeks earlier, and we were so excited to get a brand new, bottom of the range, Ford Fiesta. It didn't even have a parcel shelf; that was an extra £56. We called it Timothy, or Mothy for short! We loved that car so much. It represented so much to us; the joy of being newlyweds, freedom to go where we wanted without checking bus or train timetables first, just a lovely time of our lives. No other car ever meant as much, so no other car got a name.
