We got this catalogue, too. Such beautiful stuff but the prices are insane! Until she saw the catalogue, my daughter was all set to have her grandmother make us Elsa and Anna costumes but now she really wants to be the pink mermaid. She wants me to be a fisherman. Eh, she's the kid, I'll do it. It saves my mother in law from making the costumes.
And yes, why is it that for Halloween no matter what the costume is, if it's for a woman, it's trashy. Last year my daughter was Alice and I was the queen of hearts. Queen of boobs was more like it! I had to wear a camisole under the costume. And half the Alice costumes for girls were so short and tight. Thank goodness she was all about the authentic Alice so she looked like a little girl and not a Playboy bunny. I am by no means a prude, but some of the costume choices just barely cover enough to not be pornographic.

I saw this costume posted somewhere online and LOVE it! I am a big fan of homemade costumes, although I can totally see them being more hassle than they are worth for a parent.

How cute are those costumes! I like homemade costumes, and do make our own. Halloween is huge in Waikiki, but we were big into Halloween before moving to Honolulu.

I love halloween costumes. We love to do the homemade ones and have made some awesome costumes in the past for our kids. But we moved here last year and the school doesn't do anything for halloween and it seems like an awful lot of trouble for one night of walking around in the dark to put that kind of effort into it. My ds was 8 last year and I think his costume days are over. sob.

We do homemade for the most part. This year I'll be altering an orange track suit to be AppleJack (My Little Pony) and I'm not sure what else.

DD declared today that she wants to be Elsa (her and 95% of all other elementary school-age girls), but I'll be damned if I'm paying $130 for her costume!

My kids look forward to that catalog every year & the earlier it comes the better.
Some of the costumes I have made take some time & I have started as early as August.

Clearly I am a big fan of the home made Halloween outifit! (my avatar picture is last years creation ) We have decided to have a theme for our party this year. We have asked people to come dressed as their favourite song. My husband is a big Pink Floyd and wants to come as Dark side of the moon -umm not happening!! My daughter is thinking of coming as Purple Rain - dressed totally in purple with purple makeup and an umbrella with sparkly rain hanging off the edges. My grandson bought a wolf costume for a W party so he is going to recycle that and bring his English girlfriend along wearing the flag-- Werewolves of London. I have no idea what I'm wearing, think I might do a s/o thread to ask for ideas. Corinne

DD8 was thrilled to see the Wishcraft (Chasing Fireflies Halloween Costume) catalog had arrived yesterday, just a mere 3.5 months before Halloween. She has been poring over and tabbing the pages ever since. I absolutely adore this girls Joan of Arc costume but she is not interested. As I was looking up the J of A costume on their site, I see they have an adult version with the emphasis on adult. LOL. Something tells me Joan never looked like that. Why couldn't the women's version be as cool as the girls? Not sniping, just curious - what has Joan of Arc got to do with Halloween?

Cute costumes! I love seeing the homemade ideas. My daughters went as bunches of grapes (red, purple, and green) one year, and as S'mores another year (graham cracker, chocolate, and marshmallow). Everyone loved those costumes. I enjoyed making them.
Halloween was a BIG deal in our house. Last Halloween we were just 2 weeks into my husband's first chemo induction. My daughters were Monster High dolls. I drove three hours home just to take them TOT'ing. I didn't want them to be without both parents on Halloween. I'm not sure how they'll feel about Halloween this year. Their dad passed away in February. They have been talking about it a bit already. I was thinking about maybe having a costume party and skipping TOT'ing. We hardly eat any of the candy anyway. I would love to decorate the house like a witches coven, and the girls and I could dress as witches. We'll see.

She's a character, just like any other character that people dress up like - that may not be scary or spooky like the actual holiday.

I bought a costume this weekend at a tag sale for $7. It's one of those creepy ones with the nasty bones and skin flaps sticking out of the clothes. The kids thought it was great. At another tag sale there were awesome homemade (with great skill) costumes. They had a super cute jellyfish for $3 for a smaller child. If I knew anyone that size I would have bought it.

I'm trying to convince my DH and girls to be the Kartrashians, but they aren't buying it, lol Ha Ha, this is funny. One of the song titles we discussed was " I like big butts" or "Bootylicious" and we thought about how we could dress up like the Kardashians, oops Kartrashians! (much more suitable) Corinne

I don't think people typically care if their costume has anything to do with Halloween.
