I just started 'coloring' and find it very relaxing while I'm watching television at night with DH.
But I see the digital scrapbook craze starting all over again. Everybody and their brother is jumping on the band wagon to draw coloring pages to sell on Etsy or to make their own "coloring book" to sell to others. People have huge stashes of pencils, markers, gel pens etc. I mean huge.
It's deja vu. LOL.
Thank you, but I'm very happy with my set of 24 pencils and my one coloring book.

A great 'new' hobby and probably a lot less expensive than scrapping !

Yes, I'd noticed that printables for the colouring in hobby have started to appear everywhere on the web - as you say, it's the digital scrapbooking craze all over again!

I'm kind of amazed at the price of some colouring books since it's become so popular.

It doesn't take long, does it? I'm with you, though. I'll stick with what I currently have.

People have huge stashes of pencils, markers, gel pens etc. I mean huge. It's deja vu. LOL. Thank you, but I'm very happy with my set of 24 pencils and my one coloring book. I know what you mean. I belong to a group on FB and I am amazed at all the books and coloring tools some people have - One person said she had 120 books and I forget how many markers, pens, & pencils - unreal! I mean, just say each book has 20 pages - that is 2,400 pages. If you colored one page a day, it would take you almost 6 1/2 years to color all the pages in those books and trust me...in 6+ years many of those markers and pens will probably be dried up by then. And...let's be honest, who is going to color a page every day for the next 6+ years??
I have 2 "adult" coloring books and maybe 3 or 4 kids books. I have one large box of crayons and 1 large box of prismacolor pencils. That alone will last me a LONG time! I think what I have is considered a lot - at least by me.
One person in the FB group posted a photo and her entire couch was covered with books, markers, pens, & pencils and she said "Coloring is addictive" - several posted, "I'm jealous" or "wow" - I asked "Have you actually colored anything yet?" She didn't reply
So many people seem to be obsessed with buying coloring books and tools but are not actually coloring.
And....you are right....I see lots of people designing their own coloring pages and books and selling them on etsy or stating their book will be coming out soon. Seems like suddenly everyone is a coloring book artist.

I think we may be on the same facebook page. Jody is on it too.
I find I can't look at it too much. Some of the people are unbelievably talented. Their pages look like photographs. That's too much anxiety for me. LOL
I actually have 2 books. One called colorama, which is just a bunch of mandalas, flowers etc. The other is an interesting book of carnival masks. These will keep me going for a long time.

I've thought the same about people going to town with stickers and washi tape in their planners. I'm in a few Erin Condren facebook groups and every time some one posts pictures of their "stash" I think of the binders and accordian files of stickers I got rid of...

All I needed was another "craft" LOL But, I purchased a few books and got some colored pencils and now am hooked. It really is relaxing. I have given myself permission not to worry about making mistakes or about finished a page - filling in the background can get boring.

I hadn't noticed them on Etsy but I have noticed some craft companies creating new items due to its current popularity. Do any of you remember Lindsay Ostrom? At the very beginning of the scrapbooking craze, about 20 years ago, she published a couple of lettering and doodle books. She was a pioneer in the industry and they were very popular. She has a new coloring book being released, along with several other coloring books by different artists, by Adorn-It. Bella Blvd. just came out with a new collection that's basically coloring pages for scrapbooking, too. I've even seen some planner inserts you can color yourself. I also noticed that several popular online scrapbooking stores starting carrying a lot of art supplies, including pens, pencils, watercolors, etc., soon after the coloring book thread was started here. I've bought a few things, and I am looking forward to the new Lost Ocean book by Johanna Basford, but I haven't been coloring as much as I'd like because I just have too many hobbies and not enough time for all them.

I am just about to make the jump into official coloring. I don't think I'll be joining any FB pages about it though. I need it to not be something where I see what others are doing and compare myself to them. Also, the whole shopping part of it stresses me out, as I am trying to become a reformed shopper and I do NOT want to spend a ton of money on collecting stuff (as I did with both scrapbooking and digi-scrapping... I could scrap for a long time just off my stash of digi-scrap supplies). However, I do like the idea of having crayons or markers or pencils to choose from, and can see myself having a couple of different "adult" books plus maybe a kid book or two, just to allow for mood variety in how/what I color (and I can totally justify the kid books, since I have grandkids I can share with.)

I wasn't aware that the coloring craze is booming with entrepreneurs. I think it's great though. But wow 120 books? Id say that's going over board and though I totally love this coloring idea for its benefits of relaxation, centering, and emotional release, it sounds like many are over doing it... I'm not sure if I like it as a trend or not cause there needs to be balance, not domination.

I can't remember which store I was recently in, but it had an entire endcap of adult coloring books! Like another poster, I'll keep my coloring to my stamped images. I don't need another hobby

Has anyone tried Zentangle? It's not coloring, though you could use various colors. It's meditative doodling. My cousin actually got certified to teach it, and she got me hooked on it over the summer. She is insanely talented and make some drop-dead gorgeous creations. Mine are childs play compared to hers, but it IS fun and relaxing. I'm obsessed with pinning patterns on pinterest currently.

Is there an official zentangle academy? Who knew?

I thought I'd like to try the coloring (and I still would) but like you, I honestly don't have the time. I'm into too many hobbies as it is. Maybe one day...

I just got this one in yesterday and it is AMAZING! The only issue is that many of the designs cover two pages, so don't really lend themselves to being copied onto watercolor paper. I may have to actually color IN the book, LOL.

I've been coloring forever! I started as a little girl and never really stopped. It's very relaxing to me. There have been grown up coloring books around for quite a few years, but I have to admit I am loving the selections that are out now. I recently bought one at Barnes and Noble that is very pretty. I still have my kid coloring books floating around but the intricate designs on the grown up books really draw me in. I have chronic pain and coloring really takes me away mentally and I actually forget about the pain while I am doing it. My right hand is swollen and hurts like crazy to hold anything, I am so thankful most days that I am left handed...LOL. I would like to get some more coloring utensils, but right now I am just using my crayola coloring pencils and at times crayons.

I may have to actually color IN the book, LOL. I was looking at that on Amazon to send to my mom for her birthday. It looks awesome although there were some complaints from reviewers that some of the books had cream pages and others had white. Also, the designs were printed on both sides of the paper which is a bummer if the pen bleeds through.
