OMG, one his friends called me and told me there have been problems with my Windows Explorer. imagine that. how nice of them to keep an eye on my computer for me. I out and out started laughing on the phone and told him I finally get to say someone tried this scam on me. I just kept laughing as I hung up on him.

I'm never ugly to telemarketers. I figure they have a job to do and it has to be frustrating to get rejected all of the time.
But scammers? I believe they were put on this earth to sharpen my wits and keep me on my toes. Why would I skip an awesome opportunity to test my skills and NOT mess with them?
The Windows guy called my house earlier this year. I had him going for at least 20 minutes. He ended the call with a pitiful "why would you lie to me like you have?"

I got that message too, in an email today. I'm just going to sit it out and disregard it and let Dennis of the Federal Government try to collect though! He might have a bit of a problem because I'm not American and not living in the US!!

Gee, I haven't had phone call from India for a couple of years. Of course, now that I've written that, I'll get one.

No, that's a scam that's going around. Our local Portland OR news had a story a few months ago where they interviewed a few people, sadly older folks, who had lost a lot of money in this scam and were in tears.

They're calling Australia as well. You owe federal government taxes & if you don't pay immeidately you're going to jail. They'll be around tomorrow to collect you & take you away. yeah right, dead giveaway, our Tax Department doesn't work that quickly. Any Australian knows that.

I love messing with those people, I think I have an evil mean streak... I'm the same way, however I like to refer to it as more of a "I'll keep them on the phone with me for as long as I can so they have less time to reach someone gullible enough to fall for what they're saying."

I got a phone call the other day saying they miscalculated my water bill in Maryland and I needed to call and pay the outstanding balance or they were going to cut off my utilities. Which is funny because I live in Pennsylvania. I do have a Md based cell phone number because I work in MD and it's a company phone. I called back the number and no one answered. They never called again. I would've liked to have had a bit of fun..darn it.

DS answered the phone to someone earlier who told him that they might record the call. He put on his deepest voice, told them he objected to being recorded because his voice was "most majestic", and he didn't want anyone stealing it for adverts, film trailers, etc. The boy cracks me up!

I thought it was awesome my BFF got a call like that...especially since she works for Canada Revenue Agency (the Cdn equivalent of the IRS) as a tax auditor. She really grilled them with agency-speak and they hung up on her!

LOL. One of the reps I work with has been getting the same spam call on his line since last fall. The heavily accented person tells him that the officials will be at our office to arrest him shortly. He's been waiting or them to show up since October. He was so fed up on a recent busy day where everything was jacked up that he said "Good. Come get me. I need a damn break." It's become a favorite joke in the office.

I get telemarketer and scam calls all the time, and they usually show a random fake number. I wouldn't call back, on the off-chance it's actually someone's real number that displayed. Not someone associated with the scammer, I mean, just some poor innocent victim fielding calls from pissed-off people getting calls supposedly from their number. ETA never mind! It just sank in that duhhh, he left a message.

Oh, I haven't had any good scam calls in awhile. But we do have a new set of collection calls coming in, which could get aggravating if they don't stop.
Years ago we were getting calls for someone with my maiden name. Then a few years after that we were getting calls for some random woman. And now it's DH's turn. Someone with his name, only 15 years younger than him and living 8 hours away apparently needs to pay some people. And no, he doesn't live here. And no, we don't know him. And please don't call us again! Ugh.

It is actually a very bad idea to call those numbers back because A) they know they are calling a live number and will keep doing it and B) you could end up being charged up the wahzoo if you end up calling a number that leads to certain scams. They put the charges on your phone bill.

link It's a well documented scam and they will claim that there are discrepancies on your taxes. Don't call.

My husband keeps them on the phone for 30 minutes some times, if he has nothing better to do. He plays totally stupid and asks them to repeat everything. He keeps them on the phone until they get mad and hang up on him.
My 12 year old ds really is a know it all. He knows more about computers than anyone I have ever seen. I want to put him on with them and let him talk their ears off.

I had them call me at work one time, telling me there was a pending lawsuit against me and I needed to pay XYZ amount of money right away to get it stopped. They called my PERSONAL line, not the agency number that's in the book! I asked what kind of lawsuit and he hummed and hawed around about taking my house, etc. I politely informed him that I would contact my attorney (that I don't have) and see what she's heard about this. Oh hell no, that gave him all kinds of problems and I needed to deal with HIM personally! I told him I was not going to deal with a scammer and hung up. He called me right back and I'm pretty sure I've now been condemned to whatever horrible fate he believes in, judging from his language!
And not scammer related, but stupid phone stuff related. Seventeen years ago, when XH and I moved into the house I'm in now (it's a doublewide so it was literally brought in on a truck on bare ground!) we started getting calls on our land line. Somebody looking for "Steve" and he owed this money and on and on. "I know he lives there because I've been to his house." We told this yahoo over and over that this was a brand new house that wasn't even sitting on this piece of property 5 months ago and there was no Steve living here. It took me telling him one last time that there was no Steve there, has never been a Steve there and I had his number listed on my caller ID and he'd be turned over to the police for harassment if he ever called again. The calls finally stopped.

Oh yeah, the IRS called me, too. I played along for a while... then I told him I really needed to talk to my attorney, who also happened to be my DH, who also happens to be a retired circuit court judge.... somehow our call got disconnected!! Jerks, but I figure the longer I can keep them on the phone that's a few more minutes they can't scam someone else.

Sigh, I still get calls for Tabitha at work. She owes people money. She owes Chase Bank. She used to have my number at work. I've worked her over 4 years. I finally had to tell Chase that I am a Chase customer and as a customer, I didn't appreciate them harassing me since I had told them on the last five calls not to call me again. Then Chase stopped. I still get a random call for Tabitha from others.
