In our county, special needs kids who go to a separate school (the 3 I know who go to these schools are autistic) go year round except for 2 weeks in the summer. It's interesting to see that it isn't like that everywhere

We have awesome special Ed during the school year, but ESY here is only 4 weeks of the 12 weeks of summer and for only 3 hours a day. So, not much happens and there isn't much respite. DS2 was home by lunch the weeks he did go. DS1 doesn't qualify for ESY, even though he has autism, because he is higher functioning.

He's non verbal and not toilet trained, but he has improved this year. I think it's less than 15 days anyway. My son has to be bussed 40 minutes to and from the place that does summer school. I would love year round school like littlemama described.

This is my first realization of this - but for the first time since 1990, I won't have a child in some kind of school. Although there was a gap of 2 years before one went to law school - but there is no more first days of school for me! (until grandchildren come along, lol)

Yes! Yes! Yes! It isn't about Transformers, but whatever the toy-of-the-day is. My 14 yo operates at the cognitive level of a 5-6 y.o. and is still enamored with toys... My 19 year old still takes me to EB Games (Game Stop in the US) to look at what's coming out and what he needs to buy. He buys these expensive put-together Gundum things, too. Do you know what they are? I *think* they are some sort of robot but I may be wrong. They aren't cheap either. We are talking over $100 for the ones he gets. They are big and once it is put together, what do you do with it? He has a bout 5. (He talks about them but I have never to my knowledge seen one up close. He likes his dentist as he has a whole bunch of them in his office.) I just google searched and this is what I found www.google.ca/search?q=gundam+toys&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CC8QsARqFQoTCKz7_ue2l8cCFQg6iAod1tAJug&biw=1033&bih=583They look like transformers to me. We never outgrew transformers, either. I am sure if something cool came along we would need one and/or it would go on the Christmas list.
